when i turn.. its not as responsive or sharp. could my wheels be the problem?

if they are considerably heavier than your original wheels i could see the response being less sharp

It depends on the tyres.

Generally If you have the same brand/type of tyres in 17x7 over 15x6 the 17's will corner better - more contact with the road and less sidewall flex (but may slow you down in a straight line due to more mass/larger diameter) Also usually the higher diamer of the same tire will have a softer compound.

But if your new 17" tyres are cheapies and have a worse compound than the 15's you had, then turn in wont be as good.
