  1. if conditions are right guys i will turn up.. maybe even be there at 5.30pm to race :P
  2. if its the 7th generation, i know the ZR is heavier than the SX due to the sunroof and other extras, also has 16inch wheels instead of 15inch for the SX. Other than that mechanically its similar, comes with 2zzge and C64 6 speed gearbox. Don't waste your money on auto for this car, the car drives like a bloody slug if u get an auto, it needs a proper close ratio manual gearbox to extract the engine's potential. unless you simply cannot drive manual, then i probably recommend you get a v6 or v8. ;)
  3. Negative feedback.. hmm.. i think there is one and that is most 03-04 Stivo owners won't part for any less than $20grand because they are fantastic cars imo ;) The engine and gearbox alone is worth more than $10grand new, its top of the range stuff. Despite some of the little niggles, rattles here and there, i don't see much negative to really talk about the Corolla Sportivo or else i would have sold mine already for dirt cheap.
  4. i think i will have to prove i know how to drive manual by going to the drags :P running people over might prove too costly :P :P but seriously i have driven manual cars all along and never had such an issue with 2nd gear.. i am pretty confident with my driving, has always been and this time its the car that is letting me down :P
  5. My car has now done close to 60,000kms and almost 3 years old and i have had 4 different dealerships "attempt" to fix my car, try to feel how p!55ed off i am the sticky gearshift was resolved after a new clutch it but the clutch wasn't adjusted so i still crunch 2nd gear on and off. Funny enough after the Redline gearbox oil was put in it hasn't crunched once since. But i will sure attempt to have my clutch "adjusted" again by Western Toyota or a local mechanic when i have my 60,000km service. i won't hold my breath though knowing what Toyota is like now.. <_< i'm still in love with my car though :P don't need 1-2 LIFT to beat WRXs, auto V8s etc.. so i don't really care :P And the next person thats says that we are crunching 1-2 because of "our bad driving" will get run-over :P

  7. they are definatly no the stock tyres... check out the pertruding sidewalls and the shoulders ;) and the sock tyres are not so bad for what they are. They heald their own pretty well around Wakefield Park. they are definatly no the stock tyres... check out the pertruding sidewalls and the shoulders ;) and the sock tyres are not so bad for what they are. They heald their own pretty well around Wakefield Park. yep i 2nd that, against Yokohama C. Drives but i feelt the C.Drive had more to give and a sharper steering response ;) the Stivos with the Turanzas were all lowered and one had Koni/Whiteline sussy kit quite similar to what i've got now. My suspension setup then was missing the Konis and camber setting was stock :P The Bridgestones are not that bad like Dylan said, but noisy when pushed and the sidewall is obviously weaker being 195/55 profile doesn't help its cornering abilities. And the Turanzas ($250) costs more than the Yokie C.Drive ($200) and the GIII ($220) - Bobjane prices.
  8. Thanks for the reply guys, but "in theory" if we have problem 2, shouldn't we have issues with every gear?? why is it specifically 2nd gear? Every other gear is fine, land LIFT no problems and i can shift as fast as i want to. That's something i don't understand but i guess a proper clutch adjustment really does help as Dylan pointed out. ;)
  9. Just giving an update with Redline MT90 transmission oil. It doesn't feel very different when you drive the car normally, i can still feel the "notch" or metal feeling when shifting into 3rd sometimes at normal revs, but at high revs it feels better. I tried a fast shift and it didn't crunch although i didn't make 1-2LIFT. I couldn't make mysef slam it into 2nd. But at the moment it feels better. As for bang for buck i don't know, $110 for the oil isn't really cheap but i guess if you are rebuilding your gearbox or have a brand new gearbox i would have this oil put in from the start. A question guys, is it true that if we try a fast 1-2 to land LIFT and 1) the gear goes into 2nd ok but crunches its a synchros problem. But 2) if it crunches and doesn't go into gear its a clutch problem? If so how many have problme 1) and how many have problem 2)? I sure have problem 2 everytime i crunch 2nd and i have an aftermarket clutch.

  11. Contact customer service, and even TMC head office to lodge a complain,. Hope your car is alright. ;)
  12. Vyets - where's Chasers?? I might have to pay them a visit in the near future :P i reckon $1-2grand is worth paying to rebuilt the gearbox. ZR 00 18 - just realised you said you crunch 2nd heaps and 3rd sometimes :P yes this happens in Corolla Sportivos too bcus we have the same gearbox. Make sure you give your gearbox a good quality full synthetic transmission oil which can cost between $75 (eg. Castrol Syntrax) - $110 (Redline MT90) for 3litres, the gearbox requires 2.3litres of 75W90 GL4 or GL5 oil. Sometimes it can be a clutch problem that causes the gearbox crunching but if its only happening to 1 or 2 gears then most probably its a synchro problem. btw its good idea to stick a new clutch in while you are at it, if you a track warrior then i guess an LSD wold be waiting in line too. ;) My problem with the Sportivo is that since i purchased it almost 3 years ago i have been having troubles with the gearbox, crunching 2nd occassionally and also have a "sticky" gearshift that refuses to shift out of gear until you wait for half a second or so. Toyota refused to do anything so i had to fork out over $1000 for a new clutch and flywheel combo and it solved the "sticky shifter" problem but 2nd gear still crunches when i try to shift very fast to land LIFT 1-2. I tried all sorts of methods of shifting and it is definitely NOT my driving, as i have driven 3 other manual cars previously and have no isssues such as this. I have no doubt its some problem with the gearbox from production, in 1999 journalists have commented that some Celicas they tested have gearbox issues and its easy to "beat the synchros" which mean when you shift too quick you will crunch as the synchros are not up to the task of matching the speed of the next gear. Hence by slowing your shifts down a tad its all fine. One journalist even tested a Celica with only 5000kms and said it felt like it has been thrashed as the gearbox just wouldn't shift. Now these are all evidence the gearbox has some issues from factory but its Toyota we are talking about hence the cars still kept selling, and the problems still exists. ;)
  13. Hi ZR 00 18, yeh i live at Shellharbour. I am not sure what problem you have but if its not crunching guess its not a big problem yet, if its popping out of gear then yes but using a bit more wrist to get into 2nd seems to be a "characteristic", Toyota will probably say its just a "notchy gearbox". <_< There is a place other than Toyota where you can have your gearbox or the 2zzge engine looked at. Its Southern Motor Works and his name is Jason. He drives a Lorus Exige with the 2zzge and races in the Lotus Trophy and tracks his Exige regularly. He has "a few" 2zzges lying around in different specs the last time i went to his workshop so he knows his stuff. I suppose he knows the gearbox rather well too since its the same gearbox in the Lotus, just different ratios and shifter. I personally haven't had my car fixed there but you could always get him to diagnose and get a quote. Also get Wollonong or Tory to diagnose and quote, then compare. Hope that helps.
  14. Good to hear you are ok, i think its hard to put blame on one thing when it comes to issues like that. It's collective and everyone has to be responsible, from the politicians to everyone of us taking responsibility of our own actions. First up i think every driver should be made to go through some advanced driving training before given their licence (i think Germany does that?), this allows them to understand some basic laws of physics and car dynamics and the inexperience/misconception many young drivers have with the many so called "Sports Cars" on our markets. many don't even know the difference in driving dynamics between rwd, fwd and awd. Scenarios like this usually end with someone seriously hurt or killed, glad it didn't happen this time.
  15. Hi guys! I believe the Sportivos have that problem as well since we have basically the same gearbox. So what is Toyota actually gonna fix for $1000 and $2000 Vyets? are they replacing ALL synchros or just 2nd/3rd? and what abt bearings etc.? if its everything then thats worth it, you will almost have a fresh rebuilt gearbox. i personally would have all synchros changed while at it because you don't want other synchros to stuff up down the line. You should always try the cheapest method in rectifying these gearbxo issues first, ie. gearbox oil change, clutch inspection etc and if all else fails and its getting worse then look into the gearbox rebuilt.
  16. sh!t, just got my roster and i am finishing work at 7pm that night, :( is that too late? i work at Liverpool though..
  17. yeh Webber looked like he chucked with rage that $200,000 steering wheel smack bang on his Williams F1 car :o that was something.. and how bad did DC look with that stupid cape around him! :D
  18. Thats cool, i should get my new roster very shortly so will know for sure what time i finish work. Come on down Bill, i will line u up as well! :P :P
  19. i want to line up Dylan :P btw if i turn up late like 6-7pm can i still get in?
  20. Here Here!!! Dylan your awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D you managed not to kill all 3 of us so well done haha :P Oi Dylan, "someone" might be reading this forum and i think she wouldn't be too happy to know u took 3 girls for a blast in your car without her :P :P OH84BY - what can i say, she's stuck through thick and thin with me for the past 28 months i think she deserves more than a mention :D
  21. Man F1 is just getting boring.. thought there would be more competition this year with about 6 teams in the fight for podiums but has now turned out to be a Ferrari-Renault bitch fest as expected.. like today with Schuey spinning his Ferrari and blocking the track while the 2 other Renaults were doing their last flying laps.. ended up with the Renaults jumping up and down over it cuz Alonso was 2tenths off pole.. But man i mean there is so much money in F1 and these teams like Ferrari multiple world champs and Renault just seem to have such an advantage either psychologically or tactically, or politically, over the other teams and bargaining power is always with them. Renault and Ferrari have the money to modify their cars everyrace so that says something! Shcuey stripped of Pole! Mark Webber in 2nd!! And Fisichella dropped to 10th from 5th! Stewarts really at work at Monte Carlo! :o
  22. Monte carlo Qualifying results.. Looks like a bad day for Honda again!! Toyota didn't do too good either, and with not much overtaking opportunities there its going to be a tough race but anything can happen at Monte Carlo being so narrow and bumpy. Good to see Mark Webber up there though P3!! Woohoo i wil be cheering him on to outrace Alonso and Schuey tomorrow and Jenson and Ralph should be filled right up to the brim for not making the last quali-session so hopefully they can pick up a dozen places.. :D I want to see some racing! 2006 Monaco Grand Prix Pos No Driver Team First Second Third 1 5 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1:15.118 1:13.709 1:13.898 2 1 Fernando Alonso Renault 1:14.232 1:13.622 1:13.962 3 9 Mark Webber Williams-Cosworth 1:14.305 1:13.728 1:14.082 4 3 Kimi Räikkönen McLaren-Mercedes 1:13.887 1:13.532 1:14.140 5 2 Giancarlo Fisichella Renault 1:14.614 1:13.647 1:14.396 6 4 Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren-Mercedes 1:14.483 1:14.295 1:14.664 7 11 Rubens Barrichello Honda 1:14.766 1:14.312 1:15.804 8 8 Jarno Trulli Toyota 1:14.883 1:14.211 1:15.857 9 14 David Coulthard RBR-Ferrari 1:15.090 1:13.687 1:16.426 10 10 Nico Rosberg Williams-Cosworth 1:14.888 1:13.909 1:16.636 11 7 Ralf Schumacher Toyota 1:14.412 1:14.398 12 15 Christian Klien RBR-Ferrari 1:14.489 1:14.747 13 20 Vitantonio Liuzzi STR-Cosworth 1:15.314 1:14.969 14 12 Jenson Button Honda 1:15.085 1:14.982 15 17 Jacques Villeneuve Sauber-BMW 1:15.316 1:15.052 16 16 Nick Heidfeld Sauber-BMW 1:15.324 1:15.137 17 19 Christijan Albers MF1-Toyota 1:15.598 18 18 Tiago Monteiro MF1-Toyota 1:15.993 19 21 Scott Speed STR-Cosworth 1:16.236 20 22 Takuma Sato Super Aguri-Honda 1:17.276 21 23 Franck Montagny Super Aguri-Honda 1:17.502 22 6 Felipe Massa Ferrari No time
  23. Have u checked all the mounts and brackets? The TRD CAI is a pretty tight fit with all the supplied brackets and mounts so shouldn't be making noises unless its touching something.
  24. Love having the 2zzge/6speed box in my $30,000 Corolla.. and know that a $45,000 Celica and $99,000 Lotus Exige both use the same top of line hardware :D Also love the fact its a "Toyota" and a "Corolla", it has room, fuel economical, cheap insurance, reliability (except the "Stivo issues"! but hey its a car with a few thousand parts..), ergonomical, above average quality, its just a bloody bargain and thats why i am so reluctant to let go of it. To top it off, its in GT4!!! :D :P
