  1. Hi guys just want to find out what oils you all use, gearbox especially however few 99-05 Celica owners there may be here on this forum :P. Also would like to find out if any of yous know what Toyota uses. Cheers, Zeerolla :)
  2. I hope they do it right with my car this time, btw i just got the Castrol Edge 5W30 for $36/- from Repco 20% off storewide :D Also checked my dip stick today, it is now 2-3mm below "Full" marking so must have burnt off a lot in the last 10,000kms (mostly highway driving), doesn't seem right. while we are on engine oils guys i have asked this a few tmes already anyone knows what Toyota uses in our cars as standard gearbox oil? i know i could have asked Toyota but i just want some input from guys here cuz i wanted to buy my own but thought i might try Toyota's "recommended" oil this time (I was going to buy Castrol Syntrans 75W85, tried Syntrax 75W90 but seems to only perform well on the track when car is hot and on the street the oil doesn't seem to allow the synchros to perform well enough).
  3. It happened during my last service too, i estimated close to 1cm above full mark for me. It has been 10,000kms since and nothing seems to be too much wrong with the car, touch wood. Next service coming up soon.. i reckon the mechanics simply didn't wait long enough for the oil to drain out fully before refilling They also did not return the remaining oil, that's Tory Toyota for those around my area, Wollongong Toyota always returned spare oil to me.
  4. I can see why mate, 2 front strut braces definitly increases torsional rigidity :P :D
  5. mine has ever since I had the clutch replaced :) the "stickiness" is gone but i still crunch gears on/off when i try to shift very fast 1-2, if i slow down my shifts a tad its ok and it only happens on 1-2 like i am beating the synchros.
  6. Could it also have been the day when you forgot to replace the foggy after the WSID day? it was raining that day wasn't it and maybe the water got sucked up a little bit and casued the spike? Anyhow good to hear its all fixed. Do you know how much the MAF would cost to replace? btw CAIs are a must for the Stivo, can't live without one :P
  7. I love the idea of increased displacement and ported head :D Jason drove my Stivo once when i payed him a visit a while ago, i was trying to get him to diagnose the "sticky shift" issue i had. Would have loved to have sat in his Exige for a run though.. B)
  8. Tory Toyota at Albion Park Rail has also won numerous awards <_< and for those that don't know Wollongong Toyota and Tory Toyota are owned by the same CEO. Between them 2 dealerships i choose to use Tory now not bcus they are better, but bcus they have the "Express Service", 1hr service even for major services which means much greater convenience for me. Also they have a better waiting lounge :P, not to mention i live 5mins away from Tory Toyota. But that doesn't mean the service personnel are great, they are far from it. They seem to only be interested in providing good service to customers over a certain age and those people that knows little about cars <_< People that "complains about their cars" like me and some of us here are usually ignored.
  9. I heard a long time ago of some guy having problems with the oil pump?? anyway hop Toyota helps you to get it sorted man..
  10. Thats him with that Orange Exige, didn't know he turboed that sucker!! 2ZZGE + Turbo + Mid-Engine RWD = SuperCar!! He owns Southern Motor Works at Albion Park Rail. Nice pics btw sub11z, Wake field Park is an awesome track and i agree its one of the best way to learn how to drive on the limit for an affordable price (about $100). No speeding tickets, no trees or poles to crash into :D
  11. Straight line i dragged a previous model MX5 once, it had some mods but NA, my Stivo was new with only a few thousand kms and still had sticky gearshift/clutch and was stock. 1st gear he jumped me and i only caught up at end of 2nd gear. There was no way he could have won but do remeber that was around 2 years ago when my car was stock and hadn't had the recall done. Then a couple of months ago i was racing bends and straights with an RX8 and a 04-05' MX5 (1800cc - 115kw?, 6 speed), in gear acceleration on the straights the MX5 had no chance of keeping up with my Stivo with my minimal mods, i even had an extra 75kg passenger. He tried to pass me on the outside several times but everytime he did i would gun it in 2nd and 3rd gear and that was it he had to get back in line behind me :D And in regards to twisties, the 2 RWD Mazdas were superior especially at hairpins, even with my Whiteline and Koni bits. I believe the road conditions that day weren't favourable for my stiffer and lower suspension, i was rubbing guards and bouncing around a lot, on the smoother surfaces i believe i have a better chance.
  12. 6 people reading this thread at one time! hehe.. i think people should just chill, be objective here guys, leave all the subjective comments out of it (not saying i'm not a culprit :P). There is always greener pasture someplace else :D
  13. that's a standard response by Toyota <_< tell them not to treat you like an idiot and this ssue has been talked about ever since the Stivo came out and people are sick and tired of Toyota and hat you will be getting a Honda next time :P
  14. I hope you're not calling me a rich kid <_< My car was pristine.. anyone who had seen it would have agreed... but i had absolutely no interest in it at all... was advertised for months... then after selling for $22k i had 6 people call me in one day wanting to buy it.. always the way I would have loved to have kept it.. but at the end of the day.. it was costing me too much.. and i would much prefer a business to a car here she is in her resting state... look at that shine! ok you happy... now you have depressed me.. i want my car back... :P Hehe Motoman, a man's got to do what a man's got to do :D great looking Stivo btw, whoever bought it for that price must be so lucky ;)
  15. don't think they were ever that low in power to be honest guys. Didn't we do before an after dyno runs and i believe it showed a best of around 5 kw atw gains post recall? Pre-recall the cars were running between 95-105kw stock and post recall we are seeing 110-115kw. So the flywheel figures pre-recall would be nearer to 130-135kw. 21kw difference is way too much, those Stivo owners that had the recall done would be able t tell you there is NO WAY the car feels like having 21kw more power. :) Btw its a pity that people are throwing thousands of $$ away for selling their Stivo dirt cheap.. Motoman's 04' model with 22,000kms could easily fetch another 2-3grand if he wasn't in such a rush. Another thing is there are too many "rich kids" driving the Stivo so they just thrash them and sell them dirt cheap, dropping the value of the Stivo. My advice is if you can afford to keep the Stivo keep it, selling it is throwing $$ away. Its a car that will keep its value few years down the road ;)
  16. Yeh man, really bad luck for JB, it happened to him last year at Australia too, must be jinxed! He again qualified very well last year and was 2nd in the race with a podium in sight with only a few laps to go when he picked up a left hand ripple strip, lost control and drove into a wall!! :( I had really high hopes he could break the duck this year especially after qualifying 1st and having softer compound tyres, not to mention Anthony Davidson had been quickest for Honda in the 2 practice sessions. Oh well thats racing i guess, i believe there were many disappointed racers too like Webber.
  17. Shouldn't the points be 12 for me, and 14 for DHC09?? unless we get points for something not mentioned in the rules. Well Fernando got 10pts.....Honda scored 2 points ...and you picked the pole...thats 14 I picked Kimi and Alonso correct....18 points And DHC09...picked fastest lap and pole= 4 points....+8 points for picking maclaren...and 10 points for picking alonso =22 Ahh, i forgot to add the Team points cheeers :D couple of meters more for Button's car and i would have had another 4 points :(
  18. Hi, welcome to the forum. Don't know why but definitely get it fixed under Warranty. Have you been servicing the car regularly? Also this should have been spotted by your mechanic if its the case but the CV joints have "popped" out once in my Stivo and spashed oil everywhere on the bottom of my engine and gearbox, so get that checked too. thanks for your advice Zeerolla, i have my car serviced every 10,000km but i do the the oil change myself every 5,000km because i found the engine oil gone very dark and dirty after 5,000km run, possibly the high lift and the heat cause it , i live in tasmania thats why i can high lift my car more often after midnight in country area , can i ask you, you said your cars' cv joints have popped out , could you explain ? isnt it the cv boot cracks or something to do with bearing ?and what cause this ? do you think the high lift more often can cause oil leaks ?thank you very much ! i thought they cracked but got it checked and it was loose, like half popped out. I think its due to hard cornering.

  20. What a drama filled grand prix!!! :o Firstly Honda got major issues with front tyres, actually all Michelin runners had but Honda was running a softer tyre compared to the rest and Jenson said there was absolutely no temperature and grip on the fronts so some major issue there, almost like what Toyota's problem was. Mark Webber was looking so fast too leading the race at one stage but in the end both Williams got DNFs yet again, Jenson in his Pole seating Honda went from Hero to Zero and blew up at the last corner of the last lap, both Ferraris, 1 Toyota, 1 Red bull, 1 Williams and 1 Torro Rosso crashed out. Ralph Scumacher must be the luckiest driver today, finishing 3rd even with a drive thru penalty but that's racing.
  21. 120bux for 4litres of oil!!! Damn that's daylight robbery.. maybe for filthy rich people that drive Masseratis and Ferraris they can spend a couple of hundred bux on oils but for our little Toyota its not like it does a better job than a $45 Castrol Edge full synthetic 5W30, i don't think its necessary. I was checking out the price for Redline transmission oil but i think it is going to be overcharged like their engine oils i think i'll forget it.
  22. WOOHOO!! MY MAN IS ON POLE!! 2 POINTS TO ME! :D :D Good job by Toyota and Mark Webber, and we now have 6 teams in the fight! BMW Sauber was a definite surprise package being so quick but this qualifying system is really awesome, edge of seat stuff! Now Jenson just needs to win, easier said than done.
  23. thanks man, but i get confusing suggestions here, some people say the MT-90 is better and some say the shockproof. Your experience? Or anybody? And how much was it again in AUS$?

  25. LOL .... ok tell him 2 put all that crap back in and lets see the 15.2+ 1/4 times start appearing A long time ago i read a Honda tuning Magazine in Oz and there was this purple EK Civic VtiR with about $30,000 worth of Jap mods, and i mean serious NA mods, like SPOON ECU, stroker kit to 1800cc from 1600cc etc.., all the big brand stuff and he takes it out to the track and drag strip regularly with semi-slicks and all.. his times were "only" in the mid 14sec range (consistently) considering the work he has done to the car i expected much quicker times. This Civic had full interior intact though. A shot of Nitrous was his next mod B) so 14.800 with just intake, exhaust and weight loss is pretty quick.
