  1. Not going to happen ..... Y ? because toyota is to busy working camry's <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< Yes because statistics show the baby boomers are getting old and Australia has a very high elderly population :P
  2. But even that the top teams are lapping around nearly as quick as last year when they had the V10s.
  3. I like the sedan better, they should have the sedan with the K20a like the Mugen version. :)
  4. I'm pretty much an F1 nutter too, i even take Mondays off on purpose for that reason :P It was a very interesting race. My analysis is there will be 5 possible teams fighting for podium and wins this year - Ferrari, Renault, Mclaren, Williams and Honda. If you look at best laps and lap times closely these 5 times are seperated by less than 0.4secs!!! Average speeds are also pretty much on par with each other (of course individual downforce comes into play). But Williams was a total surprise, i wasn't expecting them to be this competitive and what about the new Williams kid "Rosberg" in his debut F1 race, set the race record time time, charged up the field from behind (had to pit early due to an accident) and finished 7th in front of webber! Now that's impressive for a rookie. That Cosworth engine hauls too (capable of 20,000rpm) so watch them! However they are down on sponsers so as the grand prix season progresses we might see other teams with more sponsors edge ahead from more R&D and $$ investment. I am a Honda F1 Racing Team fan (also Toyota F1 fan if Honda happens to be low on form :P), i was disappointed by their result (even with 5 points). I would have liked to see Reubens being more competitive although he was plaqued by an ailing gearbox and even with that he split the 2 Toyotas!! He held up Jenson at the start but thats due to Jenson's poor start (blame the clutch he says?) but he ran a good race, being just 19 secs off Alonso at the end and 0.7secs from a podium. Lap times also looked good for Honda being up there with Renault, Ferrari and Mclaren. Just unlucky for Jenson really, Kimi's 1 stopper spoiled his otherwise faultless strategy. Was great to see Jenson pass Montoya at the end of the straight into turn 1 TWICE though :) As for Toyota i would actually put the blame on the engine. Look at their Average Speed - 205km/h, 206km/h compared to the top teams 210km/h average, no wonder they are slow and say nothing is wrong. Maybe too much downforce but then their lap times and tyre wear doesn't say that. Anyhow, we will find out in 6 days i guess, Bring On Sepang!!! :D
  5. There is news of Honda Australia considering bringing in the new Civic hatch and Type R hatch coming in 2007. The Type R will have the K20A engine the the Integra Type S got at the moment. Honda Australia is looking at feasability since its built in the UK, exchange rates won't be favourable. But the Mugen Civic Sedan does look better imo compared to the hatch, the Dominator with 221kw (and huge amounts of torque) will definitely punish the front wheels BIG TIME!
  6. What has all this got to do with the topic, may i ask? ;)
  7. to me a bigger pod makes a louder induction noise, hence better :P i think so long as they are hi-flow and no a ridiculously small size its ok, thats why manufacturers make pods in all sorts of sizes and shapes.
  8. Good friendly meet guys and good times there. I hope this showed some of the Mazda boys Toyotas claimed 16.2 for the 1/4mile and 0-100 in 8.4 is just a load of bullocks. Traction seems to alwys be an issue with the Stivo, in Sydney its the same. Dave's quickest 14.8 1/4mile pass had an average reaction time too and soft launch bcus of wheel spin/axle tramp. Someone wack on some slicks and see what the Stivo can do with some proper traction. Don't know how true the US times are but i know plenty of 2zz Celicas there with mods like Exhaust, CAI, clutch/flywheel and PowerFC can do 13s for the 1/4mile using drag slicks on the front. That's some serious times for an 1800cc NA without touching the engine internals. :)
  9. I thought someone was looking into that :P getting a Lotus ECU wired up.. but its already hard enough to get the PowerFC meant for the Celica to wire up to the Stivo although it could be done, i think the Lotus EMS will be a nightmare not to mention the cost involved.. but i guess with $$ nothing can stop people from doing it ;)
  10. Could you please advise the best person/address to send the letter to. I intend on writting a letter to Toyota on a number of issues. thanks & regards Look under "Sportivo Issues" its pinned on the main page of this forum. Here is a quick link : Sportivo Issues
  11. So far i have yet to see a Sportivo with a CAI pull under 110kw atw.. not in NSW anyway. The last dynoday i went to there was only i stock 2zz and it was a Celica that pulled 103kw, all the Stivos pulled 113kw and above if that's anythng to go by and take note that results may vary day to day, even run after run. ;)
  12. I have heard it happen to an Echo.. this is a very serious issue guys, who knows how many elderly people have died n head on collisions because of this safety defect and Toyota have got away with it because here wasn't an inquest?? I reccomend you people with this problem write to Toyota Motor Corporation direct to lodge a serious complain, that might prompt an investigation. Bringing back to your dealer is good but also write to Toyota.
  13. :D I wanna see a vid clip of the lotus tuned 2zz in action!!! :D
  14. Stivo stands a chance against an RX8, i remember my Stivo in 4th gear pulling away slightly from an RX8 Type S (manual) hot on my rear bumper.. plus they haven't got much torque down low so on the track the Stivo will be punchier out of corners. Their gear ratios are also too wide, worse than our C64 6 speed. Turbo cars i think we should forget it when we talk drags, we have to be realistic. Your mate just needs to tweak the boost up a couple of psi with a $50 boost controller and not let u know :P his 3inch exhaust and pod filter would have naurally raised his boost a psi or 2 higher anyway so there is no contest really. Stock for stock maybe closer. But it will be a much closer contest at the track, not drags. if its a STOCK grey import 180SX i think you might stand a chance because the SR20DET are quite old and wouldn't be anywhere close to optimal condition, turbo engines also tend to lose more power compared to NA engines over time so a 10 year old SR20DET could well be on its last leg, coughing up black smoke everytime you floor it (and its common sight). People that mod these grey imports better have spare cash lying around because i can't see these engines hanging around long when the boost is played with.
  15. i'm also thinking you could have the characteristic gear cable rattles too - sound goes away below 2900rpm.. there was a fix for it but it returns after a while.. its been 2 years now and i ave pretty much gotten used to it. I highly doubt there's anything wrong with your gearbox.. better go get your car back from these guys at toyota, you never know what they might be doing with it while you sleep :P
  16. the engine doesn't sound as crisp as the Stivo's :P
  17. Cool vid.. clearly demonstrates torque steer in hi-powered fwd cars and the weaknesses. Under under under!! Lift off oversteer, and lack of traction on power down. With that much power i would definitely prefer a rwd or awd setup.
  18. should cost less abt the $250 mark if u supply your own oil.. and arn't our Spark plugs supposed to be good for 80,000kms?
  19. Why would people want a race pipe anyway?? Its deafening, its illegal, and doesn't give significant gains
  20. Nice! Now these beasts are not meant for carpark drags :P take them to the track!! Obsessionz how much u paid for ur DC2R and how many ks etc and u live in Sydney right? Do you go to Wakefield Park? Wanna take ur new beast there for a good run, where it belongs?
  21. Nice car the FTO GPX, the 8000plus rpm Mivec V6 24 valve motor sounds sweet with a pod filter inplace. But i think Mitsubishi stuffed up the gear ratios like Toyota did with the Celica/Stivo's 6 speed box and on upshift the motor is not in the heart of MIVEC. From videos the FTO can do the 1/4mile in the low-mid 15s, but their 1st gear was quick due to the extra torque down low. The FTO always jumped out the blocks but by the end of 1st gear the DC2R would be line ball and 2nd gear onwards its all gone. That was when the FTO was new and it was tested in Japan. The DC2R always kills the FTO at the drag or the track, even the GP VersionR, but Honda put more emphasis on making the DC2R Integra a true track car, while Mitsubishi's FTO is more a luxurious Sports Coupe, like what Toyota intended for the Celica hence the TypeR really is out of the question when you compare performance. Heck back then the Integra chomped up everything other car manufacturers threw at it, even the Series 1 S14 got killed at the drag and track, the earlier WRX "STI" was also given a very hard time by the 1800cc NA. Comparing the Stivo to the FTO all comes down to the cars condition and driver. The FTO GPX in good condition has more power (147kw) and more torque and less weight than the Stivo.
  22. Haha can't believe u people.. i thought i would hear more environmentally responsible comments here on this forum.. "Hybrids are gay"? this comment sounds more like a 5 year old's! I hear comments like this and the ones sceptical about emission controls and eco-friendly motoring most of the time so its nothing new to me actually.. to me its more ignorance and selfishness speaking when people make these comments. Well i guess that's why more Australians are getting skin cancers or UV related health problems, that's why there are more devastating natural disasters around the world, that's why the sea temperature is rising higher each year and that's why the polar ice is melting at its quickest rate in a century resulting in the rapid rise of sea levels, killing off more animals and vegetation, many already extinct. Well i can just go on all day but i thought people are more aware of these things and are more responsible, even without all the evidence we should be more responsible citizens of the world. But i guess some of yous think having a powerful car slurping the last drops of premium petrol out of the ground while petrol by-products have been and are still being dumped into our rivers and oceans poisoning life in the water, and pumping many times more CO2 out into the atmosphere than a hybrid car is none of your business and having your powerful car is more important than the future of mother earth. I love the 2zz and high performance cars, but not at the expense of something we have been taking for granted, not something that supports all life on our planet. I think car manufacturers are getting the point because they are the largest producers and culprits of global warming. So it was good to see Nissan come out with the 350Z a few years back, and hybrid technology making inroads. Its their commitment to reduce emmissions and being more responsible.
  23. By the way, corolla sportivo is still in sale and it will be there till a new corolla hits the production line. bzzzzzt wrong.. the sportivo has already been removed from the toyota website.. and i think the last shipment has already landed LOL i just ordered my sportivo 3 days ago and 2.5 months to go. What last shipment? lol Check the build date when you collect it ... it will either say 2005, or will be illegal to drive, as the Sportivo no longer meets Australian emissions rules, hence why its been taken off the market. thank you, im definately going to do that. Im guessing its going to say 2005. Dont you just hate these gay aussie emission rules!!! NO! What's wrong with people, emmission laws are here to protect our environment, our earth, our future and our future generations, where is our existence without clean air, clean water, and a healthy eco-system? Without stricter laws there is no responsibility within big corporations like car manufacturers. ULEV is the standard now, i think Nissan has led the way with sustainable environmental friendly sports motoring by making the 350Z. I am so thinking of getting the new Honda Civic Hybrid :P I am just sick of being held at ransom by OIL!!! while CEO's of oil companies and politicians make record breaking profits
