  1. Heard it on the news yesterday but didn't get a chance to sit down and listen. Anyone knows anything? Its a safety recall, something like a million cars or some ridiculously big number.
  2. Cool Dylan, i'll take 5 copies so that's free entrance! :P But i guess they seemt o realise petrol prices have skyrocketed lately so this 20% will sure encourage a few more people to turn up. Can't wait till i give my Stivo a good workout tomorrow. Anyone got vid cam (Dave? Dylan?)? I might have to go around lunch time unless some arch rival cars turn up and i get tempted ;)
  3. Sounds like you all had a great time, i would have driven off a hill if i had went.. i was so buggered <_< i also see u guys had some initial d action huh B) Come on guys where's the pics!!?? :P
  4. But Azza isn't the "Sportivo" name Toyota Oz's creation of a performance division, like "HSV" and "FPV" so i don't think they will just drop it. I reckon they will keep the Sportivo name but have a few sporty cars categorised under it, like a Supra Sportivo, MRS Sportivo or Celica Sportivo
  5. The Scion has a 2zz already hasn't it? Looks great but it pounds on more weight. Maybe the next hot hatch will debut a new 2litre VVTL-i hi-revving snorter from the Yamaha division got to go head to head with Honda's K20A, 2litre Clio Sport and Pug Gti180 in displacement. But i think the hottest hatch that will debut soon could be the 180kw Turbocharged AWD Mazda3! Now that's something to think about, looks good, and we all know the Mazda3 is a sporty drive, just lacks outright performance in the engine department. And Mazda has got a huge market, so long as the price is not up there with the Sti and Evo..
  6. The Polo GTi looks heavy? The Golf GTi weighs around 1330kg. Clio Sport or Pug GTi 180 would still have better performance i think. The upside is a nice luxurious and comfortable package, looks good, but doesn't look strong, real performance will probably disappoint anyone after a bullet-proof hatch that you can push to the limits. Would be a great cruiser though, has enough grunt. I think it will be more a competition for the Accord Euro at that price and i know which one i will get -> Jap built, finish, quality, luxurious, sharp looks, fuel econimical due to 0.29cd aero, 140kw, 223nm, sweet 6 speed box, double wishbones all round, larger interior, mid $30k pricetag.. mmm.. the power of dreams :P Now where's the hot hatch Toyota? Maybe a 2zz or turbocharged Yaris from Japan..
  7. Ahhh.. Thanks a lot guys :D Man time flies doesn't it.. people always say i still look like a 16yr old :P I don't usually do very much on b'days, more a family thing usually but this weekend i have plenty installed! Today i am going to the movies, Sat will be the meet/cruise, Sun (not decided, maybe stay home and watch last race of F1), Monday will be Wakefield track day :D Yippee!! Now to my b'day resolution.. hmm.. CHEERS!
  8. What happened mate? And u getting it done under warranty (which dealership)?
  9. The way he has been driving sure looked like that Dylan But its a shame that he qualified P5 in his home race and not able to capitalise.
  10. Watched 3/4 of the race.. it turned out Ralph was very light on fuel and he was lucky with weather too! But well a pole is a pole. :P But a pity non of the Japan manufacturer teams did well. JB with his BAR Honda (soon to be just "Honda"! :) ) did well to qualify P2 and put up a good fight but still lacked the pace of Mclaren and Renault even with a better engine and aero. And Takuma Sato.. well he has already created quite a few headlines for himself recently and this time Jarno Trulli was the victim :(
  11. K&N! :P Although i am still using the TRD pod :D
  12. I think you got the gear cable noise everyone has, we gt a recall doen on that but it comes back after a while.. There is a DIY method to fix it though by using cable ties but i was told by Toyota it is not recommended (funny enough the diy method was done by toyota) so i have just gotten used to the sound now.. And how many km/s u got on your car being 2 1/2 weeks old? The stock Stivo clutch is not worth a mention imo, although i blame poor installation for the problems. Z
  13. One risk with the CAI is that little sharp rocks can puncture or tear the pod filter, breaking the mesh leavin a small hole. That would mean bugs and bigger dust particles can enter the intake chamber and into the engine. If you look at your pod you will see how many little sand particles it had filtered out due to its location down low, i have some pretty big sand particles stuck on my pod.
  14. Tried that out, doesn't work for me :( so back to normal shifting and you are right abt burning up the clutch and flywheel.. but worth a try anyway i thought. I think my Stivo just needs more mid range torque, now where's Craig :P And Brendon, i knew you Brissy boys would be right on it :D
  15. i think especially with modifications you will be able to tell more of a difference. Like your car Corey, you can get the PowerFC tuned to some 102RON Race fuel :P
  16. group buy and group install!? :P and interesting abt the engine mounts, more engine movement = more movement through transmission = crap shift quality? But i guess that applies more to older cars or Celicas that have done more than 100,000kms and 5 years or older so the mounts can be a little loose. A shifting question here: Has anyone tried shifting 1-2 without letting the gas pedal out fully, like just let the gas pedal 3/4 - 1/2 way out, shift into 2nd, clutch pedal out and full gas again? i am trying that out at the moment bcuz the problem when trying to shift easier and slower is letting the gas pedal out fully=revs drop right down (especially with lighter flywheel), so i was hoping by keeping the gas pedal going, revs will stay higher (above 6000rpm) before clutch enagement so i get more torque so easier to land LIFT. Confusing enough?
  17. The size of our exhaust pre-cat, post-extractors is huge! Almost 3 inch i think and then into the cat, then 2.??inch piping. So maybe you reduced the diameter of the piping pre-cat has made your car feel like that? Check for exhaust leaks too if that's the only thing you have done since new. Also like others say, the fuel quality. Also when was your last service done? Exhaust systems can make the car feel slower, i once had 2.5inch on a 1600cc motor and it drives like total sh*thouse! :P
  18. yeh Dylan, would be really interesting to see if my car had picked up any power at all from changing to vortex98 for quite a few months now.. but the car's performance had been steady, unlike in the past when i used Shell optimax and BP Ultimate, performance seemed to be more irregular?
  19. Would you provide a link as to where we can purchase these parts? Thanks in advance ;) ← I also forgot about the extended master cylinder push rod you guys use over there. Did that really help? And the brass bushing looks good Northy, will be interested if we can get them here. What abt the motor mounts?
  20. Would you provide a link as to where we can purchase these parts? Thanks in advance ;)
  21. some GL-5 rated oils contain sulfer which eats away at all the brass in the trans. GL-5 is made for rear end gears, not the tranny ← :o :o
  22. But i don't believe GL4 = synchro protection and GL5 isn't. What about GL6 oils? If someone can explain "API" that should explain it bcuz its usually API GL4 or GL5.
  23. What's wrong with GL-5 oils? I have been using Castrol Syntrax SAE 75W90 API GL5. It is the top of the range gearbox oil from Castrol and used and trialled on Toyota Rally, LeMans, 2 liter Super Tourer, Williams BMW F1 team etc.. Castrol Syntrax What Dylan said sounds right too about extended draining in gearbox oils. Mine has been changed very often due to track days where a lot of strain was put on the gearbox and the installation of new clutch/flywheel, so had no choice. I also did it at 10,000km service. But with expensive Synthetic gear oils, the manufacturers claim extended drainage intervals so i believe they can stay in for much longer than conventional gearbox oils. I also use Nulon's G70 transmission additive in conjunction with Castrol Syntrax ;) .
