  1. Hmm, i guess it will take a fair bit to cause major grief but like someone mentioned it can dilute the engine oil a little if the pod constantly sucks up water droplets, that's why i think we change the engine oil every 5-10,000kms ;) -But still prevention is better than cure.. when it rains drive slow (NO LIFT)! **slaps myself on the wrist** -after the drive or if drove over big puddle let the car drain off any excess water, and test your BRAKES too. -the following day or immediately (depending on weather) park the car out in the sun for a bake to dry it off ;) Z
  2. I would put blame on the employers.. they set bloody ridiculous datelines for truckies, that's what i heard anyway so they can't afford to slow down, don't even mention stop. :(
  3. I read that article Shao posted on hydrolock, really interesting but last night i was driving back from Sydney and it was really pouring down and i drove pretty quick because i wanted to get home fast, only hit Lift a couple of times Now the thing is the car got back alright no problems, this morning it started fine no problems and drove fine all afternoon, but i popped the hood early this morning and i noticed a streak of fluid (like a mix of water and oil) beside the AF sensor on the CAI. Now that is pretty far up the pipe and i was wondering if water had been sucked up that far, but if it had the engine would have BANGED and died, right? In Shao's posted article it said you will need certain amount of water to enter the cylinders to cause significant damage. I drove through a few puddles on the freeway which made me aquaplanne at 120km/h but don't think the pod would have "dunked" in the water.. Can anyone describe how much water is really needed to damage the engine?
  4. Dirt roads, no way! I drive a black car :P plus like you said dangerous.. how abt some proper tarmac.. i'm up for a cruise. Z
  5. The killer to N/A performance is weight.. so the lighter the better because torque is so precious in our little screamers, but would you justify paying people money to reduce the car's weight? Well maybe yes, like the C-One carbon fiber bonnet, looks hot and also loses 10kg i think off the front end of the car -> less understeer, also better acceleration and braking ;) Z
  6. i wouldn't risk it, fuel over time (abt. 2 weeks) degrades in Octane level so the 95 or 96 mught ecome 94 and your engine will ping like pingpong.. not good ;) Interested in your car's performance though after the Apexi gear.. i love the N1 exhaust, i heard its pretty loud :D Z
  7. I think they all give very similar gains of a few kws each mod, not enough to feel it in the pants. Best bang for buck is still some aftermarket ECU tuning like Unichip or Apexi Power FC or Motec, you get increased power and torque throughout the entire rpm range and optimised AF ratio and ignition timing.
  8. Now after Dylan's time it does make you wonder whether the CAI does give you some bang.. i mean maybe up top like in 3rd and 4th gear you will see a CAI equipped Stivo pull away slightly from a non-CAI equipped? Dyno comparisons we will have to wait tll Dylan pops his car back on, but pre-recall fro what i remember Craig put out 103kw atw then after TRD CAI put out 108kw atw on the same dyno.
  9. A before CAI and after CAI dyno is best to see gains, so Dylan's should be pretty accurate. But from what i know, most Stivo's have pulled over 120kw atw with TRD CAI and exhaust system of some sort on the same Dynonamics Dyno in shootout mode. If its anything to rave about i pulled 114.1kw atw with a TRD CAI and i don't think a CAI gives much more straight line speed, car definitely feels different and sounds heaps better but straight line is almost negligible. With an exhaust system i don't know, maybe the brissy boys have benchmarked down the strip or on the street and share some light on this.
  10. Tonight a white Camry 98 model V6 (not sure what transmssion) tried to drag me at a set of lights ANyway 1st gear side by side, popped into 2nd good shift tiny bit of wheelspin and that's end of story, i usually stop once i overtake someone but i just felt like stepping o it tonight so into 3rd and i could see the camry in the rearview mirror about 3 cars behind.. This is not the 1st time i raced a V6 Camry.. my mate had an auto and we benchmarked many times and each time the Stivo will be side by side with it in 1st but by 2nd gear the Camry always falls behind, easily if you land LIFT and spin up the tyres ;)
  11. But yeah, trying to race anyone in the wet would be most uncool, i am not keen even if some Getz wanted their go - ← Only time i tried to race in the wet was against an Astra Turbo <_< and you all know what happened.. Astra Turbo: 1, Stivo: 0
  12. How about a Wakefield park track day for everyone? Nice 8 hours worth of hard or soft driving and in a controlled, very safe environment.. also won't do any more damage to the mechanicals then a long hard cruise.. maybe just the tyres and brakes.. it will be much more entertaining, probably even safer at the track and less risk of speeding fines and panel damage to the car so long as all obey the rules. Also a good chance to sit in others cars that has got some mods done to them to compare, and also learn a bit more about your car's limits and your own driving. We can make it a once or twice a year thing. The 2zzge comes alive on the track! :)
  13. They have to "PROVE" to me the aftermarket clutch and flywheel caused the failure. Before i got it done i have told them a new cutch kit and flywheel will fix the problem, they played around with adjustment and stuff and still cannot get it right. So it only left me with that option and its fixed. I guess if the dealer is unreasonable they will blame you no matter what.
  14. Yes, it would be pricey. You have to drive it hard to get your moneys worth :P Which would be scary First off, to my knowlege there is no production mr2 with the 2ZZGE. But in Japan this is a popular conversion. The 2zzge pretty much bolts straight into the MR, as it shares the same bottom end dimenisions of the 1ZZE (so ive been told). Look at the 05 lotus with the 2ZZ-GE, it is also a midship. Lotus claims 0-100 around 5.5sec and the 1/4 mile in a mid 13. This car weighs a mere 875kg with a full tank of fuel. If you take the MR2 and are brave enough to drive it hard, i think its worth the cash to do the conversion - It weighs a little more than the lotus, and has the same drive train loss (minimal for RWD) and shares the same engine and gearbox. So i theory, it would hammer. I have seen a MRS in a best motoring touge battle demolish the Drift King's Tuned AE86 around corners and srtaight line speed (and for those who watch the best motoring series would know not many cars can beat Tsuchia in his Sprinter). Cost?? Well, what do you need for this recipie? These are estimates only (I was going to do this at one stage) 2ZZ-GE Power plant - 3.5k 6-Speed Trans - 1.5k Labour (3 full days) - $90 per hour This is my dream track car :D ← Maybe rollamods can answer this question? There is also the K20C (S2000 motor) conversion into the AE86? I reckon that hammers too ;) Just not enough torque really, like the 2zz.
  15. That sums it up ;) But no mention of failing gearboxes.. i suspect the mis-alligned clutch significantly contributes to synchro wear and subsequantly gearbox failure. I had problems shifting gears (jammed shifter and crunching gears) since Day 1 but after the replacement of the clutch kit it has improved 100% but i'm afraid damage has already been done. However having it looked at asap is still the best bet. I have taken the car back to Toyota numerous times and written numerous complain emails so they have a record, and if my gearbox does fail one day i have that to back me up.
  16. Whiteline also has "Flat Out" Springs that lower 50mm i think that's what they called and only meant for show cars, not intended for street use.
  17. I think the shorter bump stops were for the ZZE122 shocks, i got a refund for them. Whiteline comes up with full suspension kits and don't usually recommend people buy bits and pieces. As a full kit they would work very well on the street and track.
  18. 2md gear will always be the first to go since most hard driving occurs on te 1-2 change up. Before i got my clutch changed the gear shifter was stuck at high revs (pressure plate wouldn't release) and i would occassionally crunch 1st-2nd. but now with new clutch and flywheel, the shifter releases with no problems at all but i still crunch 1-2 occassionally. 3rd-2nd no worries bcuz i always rev match but i can feel 2nd gear shudder in my palms sometimes. I also noticed if you have insufficient gearbox fluid it will crunch big time. Also try Nulon's G70 transmission treatment, it works! I also use Castrol Syntrax 75W90 full synthetic. But from what i heard and read on other forums, cars like the TypeR, S2000, even Honda's NSX have problems with gearboxes. So TAKE CARE OF THEM! I think they require same care and attention as the engine. As to costs, i know a local qualified mechanic can fully repair a broken 2nd gear in a Subie WRX for $1600 (parts incl.). Z
  19. Hehe.. that was a while ago. Like Dylan said, that forum was a "techinical" forum where people discuss technical info on suspension components and setups. So i thought it was ok to suss out more info on Whiteline products. I was always going to go Whiteline as i have confidence in their products which were used on 2 of my previous rides. I just need better shocks now for improved handling but i think my stock ones are still holding up alright for the time being ;)
  20. I thought if we can get enough interest for next week they were going to try and arrange the lane. I'm up for next week as I can't make the 21st Sept now. Cheers Dylan ← When next week!! I have this coming Mon, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues OFF!!!! Woohoo!! :D :D
  21. I think buying smaller capacity more fuel effcient cars or buying hybrid cars are more realistic ways to reduce emissions, be more environentally friendly and reduce fuel consumption and also to save us from going broke. I did my own calculations, in the past 6 years, my occupation's salary has gone up 10-12% after nearly a decade's bargaining but cost of living has just gone up off the scales. Just the cost of food has gone up 50%, fuel 60%, property prices have just been ridiculous. Everyone is paying the price but it's people that are just starting out and the next generation paying the maximum price. I am for hybrid cars, anyone selling??
  22. So you got a new clutch under warranty? Same clutch or aftermarket? And it being featherlight sounds odd, maybe you had a 1ZZFE pressure plate :P
  23. I think you are right there, but isn't your car an 05'? Is your clutch gone already?? or they just doing the adjustment which doesn't require the clutch to be removed. Z
  24. Why did they take your wheels off? Get consumer affairs involved if they don't fully compensate, hope there was no mechanical damage done.
