  1. What determines the "Sportiness" of a car is the heart -> the engine/chassis. The Celica and Corolla Sportivo feels sporty and can be considered "Sports" because it has a "heart" that revs to 8200rpm and produces more than 100bhp per liter displacemet, matching to a 6 speed close ratio gearbox. Suspension is a let down i must say but at least it can be improved (not like the DC5 TypeR and TypeS, you spend money on suspension to get worse handling). The MR-S has a nice chassis being mid-engined rwd but the engine is a let down for such a highly capable chassis and selling it at that price you expect more. If you say looks determine whether a car is a "Sports" car or not, then you are a hairdresser and should go buy a hairdresser's car (no offense). ;) Z
  2. You have just gotten used to it. To test it try reverting back to stock setup ;)
  3. Good and bad news i guess.. its a great bang for buck package though and i don't think Toyota will ever release anything that affordable in the future.
  4. I told you the Stivo needed new tyres Dave :P 1st to 2nd gear -> chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp...!! :D 14.8 is a good time and i definitely think 14.5 is in the bag for you.. EASY!! Your 60ft time was slower than the last time you went which you did a 14.9 pass and it also had a higher trap speed. This run you did although having a lower trap speed, you still managed to clock a quicker ET meaning your top end has improved after the exhaust and Unichip retune B) With a 100kg diet sub 14s seems quite likely.
  5. I posted that right after getting my simota CAI... it sure makes the car sound good... that's a definite.... as for power gains... that's not a definite... but I guess you could say the same of any CAI on the market... Motoman is right... the Simota seems to be slightly smaller in diameter than other CAIs.... I notice a bit of hesitation in the engine below 3,000rpm, but it's good after that.... As for the filter making a difference, there have been many reviews and articles stating that the air resistance is negligible between brands... adding to that, I've seen an S15 with and without a K&N air filter pull exactly the same power figure on the dyno... What Melvin said about tuned lengths affecting power gains... that is a possibility... I know with Hondas, you have to be careful about your intake tract length simply because those engines are so finely tuned... adding a CAI on an integra has been shown to decrease power... who knows if it's the same with Toyotas... My 2c ← The ECU needs to be tuned. Interesting to note that the C-One cars (Celica and RunX) chose not to have CAIs. Imo, an air filter's primary role is to filter dirt and prevent your engine from breaking down so any respectable hi-flow air filter with godd filtering capabilities is ok. K&N is obviously the most cost effective.
  6. You mean Vortex 98 (98 Octane) or Vortex (95 Octane)? I have been using Vortex 98 and BP Ultimate, don't really feel much difference but it will come down to cost for me.. whichever is cheaper i go for it ;)
  7. Priceless Northy Priceless!! And yeh i gained 10hp but the "Mine's" team tuned my car wrong and drop me back 10hp so i'm back to square one :P :P
  8. First Stivo to rev past 9000rpm! :P
  9. Great day that was, thanks Justin for organising it! I was supposed to do that run down the national park with you guys but the lancer/mirages just took off from maccas and i had to catch up but by the time i saw the mirages on the far left lane it was too late with too much traffic. But all in all a pretty good cruise, next time we shall head south! Meetup homebush or something like last time then down to Wollongong, Kiama and up to Robertson, some fantastic roads there incl Mt. Keira and Bulli Pass :D These cruising routes have won many praises from different car clubs incl. the Renault Clio Sport Club that came out in force the last time. Hopefully all the Sydney guys and newbeys will be able to come to this one ;) Z
  10. Go Dave! :D Can't make it on Wednesday if not would love to give it a go.
  11. Arrgghh Bill i thought i told you to keep it hush hush.. didn't think you were serious abt exposing my new found mod!! :P For everyone on this forum i did it for you guys!! This mod packs an extra 10hp man and sounds wicked, no kidding!! :D :P
  12. Yeh Buddha, i feel much better now that's why i am still driving it to the meetup tomorrow ;) :D
  13. Maybe its my TOM's flywheel?? ← Maybe its the crappy driver :P :P :P :P :P :P :P ← I wouldn't like to admit it Bill but after i got the new clutch kit, flywheel and new tyres i have lost a few street battles :P .. the 1-2 LIFT magic is gone.. temporarily i hope.. :( and then my runin with someone's towbar.. i think i should give up driving <_<
  14. $2500 worth of damage. Aparently mostly cosmetic, the cross beam and a few little meatal bits here and there. The rails look fine, only the part where it joins with the crossbeam needs fixing and the aircon condenser needs fixing. Need new bumper, and grille, front skirt miraculously undamaged! Car will be fixed in 3 working days i was told.
  15. As to stuffing up "stock" balance with different width tyres.. for sure.. but i have seen race set-ups for fwd hi-performance cars with much wider front tyres for the purpose of more traction (but note that its the same tyre make and pattern all round) so it all depends what you want to do with the car but for street use which requires best balance i still recommend similar tyres on all 4s if possible.. and regarding brands and makes etc. each to their own ;)
  16. I'm still good to go Justin.. but still thinking if i should take the Stivo as mechanically its alright just the front bumper and crossbeam is stuffed.. but will i get a ticket for driving and "unsafe vehicle"? Also the TRD pod can be seen.. will the boys in Blue issue me a ticket for it or can i say "i just had a crash blah blah blah?".. and if it rains i am stuffed! Will check the weather anyway but still thinking whether i should take the Stivo..
  17. gees really that sucks whts wrong with your car anyways hey man even if the stivo cant make it (too bad i was gonna beat you lol) come anyways it will be good to just hang out and whatever ← You mean u will "TRY" to beat me with ur 05' Stivo hey :P My car is at the panel beaters man.. but i might still be able to drive it there as it will only be worked on next week.. mechanically no issues just the airconditioning condenser.. Or maybe i'll go in Dylan's or borrow an Accord Euro.
  18. So does that mean go to old shabby dealerships with no cutomers or go to big dealerships with too much stock??
  19. Ditto what Rollamods said. Go Exedy, reputation is better. I have seen PBR ones at Repco, looks crap in design.. wouldn't trust it.. The Exedy HD doesn't have that obvious "thump and lurk" in the stock clutch kit, but initially it was so hard to drive, stalled the car a few times myself. Maybe its my TOM's flywheel??
  20. hmmm, Justin i think i have to listen for myself to know what that is.. have you checked your intake for leaks?
  21. All current Corolla's have ventilated front and solid rear discs, ABS optional on Ascent/Conquest, standard on the others, not sure if there is a size difference Sportivo and the others, but you'd think there should be, given the increased performance. ← 276mm front discs.. anyone know how much it will cost to get the warps out of the stupid discs (disc machining) <_<
  22. Sick!! If only i had them on Saturday night :( So Gipper does this mean bigger and better things to come for the engine bay to compliment the brakes!?
  23. How was it everyone that went? I want to see pics!! :D
  24. I think i might Dylan but will let u know cuz i prefer to drive.. much more fun but i don't think my Stivo will make it out of the smash repairer in time so i might turn up in a Toyota or a Honda
