  1. The TRD CAI only needs 1 bracket cut and its as stragiht forward as it can get. And if you can find someone as nice as Dave (Screaminrolla) to do the cutting and installation that's even better! :D (Thanks Dave! ) But seriously its not that difficult. btw i have swapped the 2nd K&N filter for the 1st which is tapered and has a built in funnel. After i looked up close at both i felt the one with the funnel might still work good although it seems rather small (nearly half the height of TRD pod), but some guy assured me they use them on V8s so no worries about the pod being too small. Its actually about the same size as the XStream top 3900 pod. ITG filter Craig and Dave has seem about similar size to TRD hence the same loud sound while K&N will be quiter as its smaller.
  2. No Z u just cant drive :P :P :P I mean im hearing stories of a stocker whooping ur a55 :P :P :P :P ← it isn't just a normal stocker though its a F.U.S.S :P plus i don't drive good under pressure :P i want a rematch!!!! :D :P
  3. don't forget the little TRD sticker too :P but the AEM CAI looks good Dylan, and is the AFM at the bottom of the pipe instead of the top like the TRD?
  4. i had a MY97 rex and broke 2nd gear after i put in a brass button clutch, modded with bar/plate fm intercooler, full exhaust, boost up to 17psi all the usual go fast bolt-ons had abt 140kw at 4 wheels.. :( it sure didn't sound nice when it went, wasn't even pushing the car just normal 1-2 shift and crrriiiissshhhhinggggishshhh, sounded like a box of pebbles when you pop into 2nd, had to drive around shifting from 1st gear straight to 3rd then got it fixed for $1600. After that i got so paranoid i sold the car, cuz 3rd gear felt a bit weak already but boy did i have fun with it for 2 years, the awd takeoff is unbeatable. btw i never crunched or mishifted in the rex but after i bought it 2nd hand in 2000 the clutch was playing up so i replaced it with the brass button. The again i never really maintained the gearbox like what i am doing with the Stivo's 6 speed, i never once paid attention to the rex's gearbox oil. But i still think my shifting technique is crap now, its sometimes a hit or miss for me.. i tend to rush too much in the Stivo bcuz of the power band and have mishifted many times in 2nd and once in 3rd :P .. but i also put some blame on the box
  5. Post edited, i have swapped the 2nd one for the 1st with the funnel :P how indecisive but after seeing the 1st filter in the flesh it looks alright and i was assured its not too small for a 1800cc motor cuz V8s use them. Its actually wider than the straight pod so makes up for lost height, plus the funnel doesn't extend too deep down into the filter.
  6. i know Bill but i've already got a K&N pod for cheap cheap so might use it first unless i can sell it ;) ← you could always let me borrow it for the test Dyno too :) ← Sure Dylan provided i haven't put it on before your dyno day :P Do you know the dimensions of your AEM filter? I just did some more research and it is true about air filters being "the bigger the better" and finding the max size pod that will fit the car is the best way to go.
  7. i know Bill but i've already got a K&N pod for cheap cheap so might use it first unless i can sell it ;)
  8. Zee I think the smaller one is better as it has a larger surface area because of the funnel. Larger the surface area of the filter element the greater the suction, and we all know it's all about the suction ;) ← Cool Dylan, we got to meet up to do some comparisons soon to see which is louder! :P I also think in regards to my K&N question the 2nd one (the straight one without funnel) has more filtering surface as it uses 34ml of K&N oil when you re-oil while the first one uses only 20ml that's why i have the question "surface area vs tapered/funnel design". Dimensions wise the 1st one with the funnel is 1 inch shorter in height overall, top diameter is the same but base diameter the shorter one is slightly bigger. Othe than that i think the one with the funnel is more expensive bcuz of the bling bling polished top and funnel
  9. What a car, the ultimate track weapon and BFYB! How much it's gonna cost in Oz though, if its priced similar to the EVO8 i know some people that will sell their house or even their grandma for it! I think its tuned to run on 98RON because of the UK and US markets.
  10. I don't have a problem with the TRD pod to be honest just that i have the second one as a spare after my TRD filter gets filthy (not gonna bother cleaning it) but just realised i could swap the 2nd one for the 1st that's why i asked if the 1st one is better than the 2nd since they have different designs. I always thought that a bigger filter is always better than a smaller one since it can filter more air and the volume is greater. I could be wrong though..
  11. I thought so too but why? Is it because it is tapered in design and having a funnel provides more air flow, less air pressure drop etc.? But its got less filtering area though, does that matter?
  12. I would do it if i was turning the Stivo into a showcar and pump out big numbers on the dyno and 1/4mile (in the 13s easy!), then sell it at a ridiculous price <_<
  13. I have 2 K&N filters to choose from, which is better yous think? Can't get the XStream K&N cuz i only get these 2 to choose from. Will be changing the TRD filter to K&N. Is the filter the bigger the better? If so the straight design K&N has a bigger filtering surface area. This one is 1 inch shorter and has a funnel and is tapered in design. Uses 20ml of K&N oil. This one uses 34ml of K&N oil so has a bigger filtering area but is straight.
  14. TRD is better :P it sounds awesme! Performance wise gotta wait for Dylan to put his AEM on before we will have a showdown to see which is better! I might be changing te TRD filter to K&N soon. Is the filter the bigger the better? I have 2 K&N filters to pick from can someone tell me which is better? Sorry to be usin this post for filter comparison too This one is 1 inch shorter and has a funnel and is tapered in design. Uses 20ml of K&N oil. This one uses 34ml of K&N oil so has a bigger filtering area but is straight.
  15. I guess having an LSD put in at the same time is a good investment ;) And i guess the 250hp @ 8200rpm they are quoting is atw since they say there is a 90+hp gain atw (since stock is 150-160hp atw). So 250hp = 185kw, atw! Not bad, there are quite a few boosted fwds putting out 160+kw atw. But for about AD$7-8grand sounds real tempting doesn't it considering all the hi-quality hardware that comes with it. So who would be the first to booooooooost their Stivo!
  16. Looking at the spyshots Xoom the 4 door looks really bad, kind of have no sporty ambience at all, too family. The coupe version will have a 200hp engine and 6 speed box though but looks like its gonna weigh in pretty hefty and will wait and see what the hatch looks like ;)
  17. Sorry Bill will take a medium instead of large
  18. I don't mind the look so long as it performs!! I used to dislike the current shaped Corolla too untill i saw the Stivo.. :P
  19. Hi Zuban welcome to the AU section of the Corolla forum :D You are right about enthusiasm here and you definitely will find a lot of info on our cars here including matchups with rival cars and track day and dyno day results I think for us not having the Civic TypeR (which is my favourite hatch :( ) sold here made the Sportivo an attractive package compared to the much more expensive Integra TypeR (now called TypeS in Oz). Our closest rivals are the Renault Clio Sport 182, Peugot Gti180, Holden Astra Turbo, Mini Cooper S, Ford Focus ST170, which are all aorund $3-7grand more expensive. The new VW Golf GTI looks the goods but again is much more expensive and the Honda Integra TypeS with 154kw (210ps) aka Acura RSX-S in the US costs a hefty $12grand more. So the more you look at it there is no other car that comes close to the Sportivo for Jap built quality and bang for buck ;) May i ask for a pic of your car mate? Always loved the 3 door :) Cheers, Z
  20. Any inside info about whether its coming to Oz :) or wheher there will be a hotted up version?
  21. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZEEROLLA: The steering in the Stivo is something i hate.. way too light and you pick up every vibration and irregularities on the road. artivo: Vibrationwise, have you tried a REX? Go around to the corner Milk Bar, buy milk and you'll have milk SHAKEN not STIRRED arriving home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :P Used to drive a MY97 WRX for 2 years with whiteline suspension componets and King springs, stock shocks, and plenty of kms and the steering was heavier but no where as "sensitive" as the Stivo's. The Stivo's steering is lighter but must admit on a smooth surface like driving at Wakefield Park it feels ok :D Z
  22. NEW Civic! Looks like a fusion between the Odessy, Accord and Audi TT :D New Honda engine The 1.8l i-VTEC has 103kw and 174nm but i suspect there will be a hi-performance version. There is also a new Civic hybrid engine and diesel engine and the 2006 Civic now comes with 3, 4, 5 doors or 2 door coupe. Here is a concept Civic Si with the K20A Integra TypeS (Acura RSX-S) motor and 6 speed box. Would take this mean looking beast anyday! Civic Si Concept Here is a spyshot of a 2door coupe which i don't particularly like especially the colour.. Spyshot
  23. Upgrading the drivetrain will do nothing much if your original isn't worn out. Do you know how heavy your rims are and what is the overall diameter compared to stock wheels? Also what sort of tyres are you using? By reverting back to stock rims i believe your car should be at least in par with your mate's. Also remember your driving technique is crucial too. If your mate managed to land LIFT at 6400rpm and you were at 6000rpm only or 6200rpm for that matter with your bigger wheels and different tyres etc etc.. taking into consideration all other variables.. you gonna lose for sure even with your CAI. For myself personally i haven't been able to land LIFT1-2 without bouncing on the limiter in 1st gear but could also be due to my technique. I stand a 9/10 chance of landing LIFT if i hit limiter in 1st but maybe 3/10 chance if i don't. But some people say if you hit limiter you actually lose crucial time, but for me i feel that if i get a good 1-2 shift and land LIFT even if i touch limiter for a split second, the car is still quicker than if i don't as i have landed LIFT and the car pulls immediately. Makes any sense? sorry i am not too good at explaining myself sometimes.. Z
  24. After Dylan's Vortex 98 powered Stivo pumped out 115kw atw STOCK (more than 2 other Stivos with TRD CAI and using BP Ultimate ), i decided to give this fuel a go and pumped 42litres in today to start off the trial. I got a brochure on the fuel and from what i read i honestly don't think there will be much difference using Vortex 98 and BP's Ultimate since both companies say there is a detergent added to their high quality 98 Octane fuel. Shell's Optimax is different from what i hear as they use detergent and octane booster. So here goes nothing! :D
