  1. yeh saw that on TV.. bloody awesome hey? Probably only the commisioner gets to drive it :P And try getting that Gallardo or Murciellago to do a chase on our choppy pot-holed filled roads, i think a Stivo still stands half a chance :D btw.. i live in Shellharbour City and i swear some bloody rich ***** owns a Gallardo AND a Murciellago! Both Yellow, No kidding! I think i know who he is cuz i always used to see his wife drive a Ferrari F355 to a restaurant i waitered for many years back ;)
  2. I would personally just get a PowerFC full stop! The US Celicas use PowerFC, HD clutch and lightweight flywheels to acheive low 14sec 1/4mile passes. Shame on us :P The tuner is the most vital part of any ECU tuning don't matter if its Unichip, Motec, PowerFC, HKS F-ConV.. if the tuner is inexperienced and stuffs up just once, itcould mean big things. And also since the PowerFC is so reputable, tuners will definitely charge a premium.. getting it retuned every now and again will depend on how serious you are with the car.. It's like your lover, if you are serious abt her, you won't think abt how much money you spending :D Z
  3. This is a bit tricky ain't it Dylan, i would also hate to lose the current 1 shift to 100km/h (note the TypeR needs 2 shifts to 100km/h due to closer 1-2-3 gearing). More shifts to 100km/h means more time lost. What about changing the final drive ratio to 4.4 (98' Spec DC2 TypeR final drive ratio)? Would that help? Whats our stock final drive ratio anyway, anybody?
  4. Nice wheels, but them being 18s might weigh a bit too. Also watch the offset, you going for 225 just be careful they don't scrub. ;)
  5. Why don't save that for your next car? :P But mods i will do are: -Suspension, -LSD and while the gearbox is opened up, -Get a set of closer ratio gears put in. Check with C-One japan or ask Bruce if TRD Japan has anything. -Apexi PowerFC (last mod) -TOM's flywheel and HDclutch kit -CAI -C-One/TRD exhaust -better wheels/tyres of your choice Or if you just want looks get a full custom bodykit and respray it GOLD! :D I can only dream..
  6. Mmmm.. 400kw atw sounds awesome :D But always means big money for shredded tyres, clutches and gearboxes.. :( Nah leave it at 300kw man :P Would love to put the Stivo up against an XR6T on an endurance race though :P ;)
  7. Yes and I was one of the few who was there..... Thanx to justin for organising the cruise and thanx to all who attended, can I just ask that next time we are all trying to leave from the side of the road together that the group at the back dont just decide to take off from everyone else.... Ciao Jase P.S. xoom what did you think of my drifting????? ← Yeh who was that Jase?? :P And who was the one that took off from Maccas when we were heading for the Nasho run!? Z
  8. Hey. I would be the lancer with the noisy exhaust that was "stretching to my limit" I can understand the distast with the noisy exhaust cause I am beginning to share your feelings.... As for me stretching my car to its limit, I did ask you all to wait till I informed the whole group as to what was happening and I could once again take the lead as I was asked by Justin to do..... And just so you are aware I was in 5th at 3500 rpm cruising at that time when I went past most of you. I will respect that yes you have a quicker car and to be honest I wouldnt mind owning one myself but it would have been nice, since I was asked to take over the lead of the cruise, that you follow my instructions. This is only because it makes keeping everyone together alot easier. Anyway thank you justin for organising a good day and you have definately shown my how good those stivos really are. I have more respect for them than I did before. Ciao Jase ← Hey Jase, how's things your Lancer looked great man when you were coming up from behind me.. really low and menacing :) Hope you guys can come on a sth coast run next time. btw do yous live in W'gong? Cheers, Z
  9. I would be intersted, what time would it be on the 31st night, and roughly what time you leaving the W'gong Dylan? It's my mon's b'day that day and i work evening shift!! But i can get the shift swapped to day shift, mom's b'day hmmm, i'll try to think of something :P ALso gotta think of getting a helmet or can we rent them at WSID?
  10. What Justin said here could be true, i got 114.1kw atw with CAI and another owner here got 113kw with CAI while someone's stock (no-longer) Blue Stivo got 115kw (i put it down to fuel quality) :P BUT note this is only PEAK POWER, not midrange power or TORQUE and says nothing about throttle response etc. In Japan, C-One's 2zzge powered Celica and RunX (Stivo) stuck to their stock intakes, Why? Could it be because C-One refuses to use TRD's CAI :P or they are in the process of making a C-One CAI. Or maybe their R&D has shown no advantage from using a CAI? But in all honesty i don't think a CAI will give noticeable power increases. The "BEST THING" (Japan/local tuners' reccomendations) you can do to highly strung NA engines like the 2zzge or Honda's TypeR engines is tune the ECU with either a full replacement ECU or piggy back. Exhaust, CAI, throttle body bolt-on mods will not give you what you desire, more noise than go. The induction noise from the CAI is something out of this world and if i had a choice i would still have gone for a TRD CAI just because its genuine TRD and Toyota has never said a word about the TRD CAI for the 12months i have had it installed. It also runs without a hiccup. If i had an older vehicle, sure i would probably go for a custom setup. But my closing statement is still the same, the 2zzge is a finely tuned engine and it will be difficult to tap power from it unless you spend some serious money. If anyone here wants to get big hp gains, go buy a turbocharged vehicle where an exhaust mod can get you 20kw atw. What the heck, a boost controller worth $50 can get you an instant 20-50kw atw depending on how long you want your turbo or engine to last. So spend your money wisely, it would be smarter to spend it on suspension because that is where the Stivo can surely improve on. Spend wisely and you can get more enjoyment out of the car on the road and on the track, and still be a very user friendly day to day vehicle. I think by the time we all figured out this topic, most of us here that has owned the Stivo for while will be thinking of getting new cars ;) Z

    Tyres

ditto, Falkens last ages but has little grip.. Bridgestones have good grip but like the stock Turanzas shred easily (mine only lasted 20,000kms but included 2 track days).. I wouldn't put any more than 205 width on the Stivo's 16X6" rims..
  12. Vitagen - just say your steering wheel shudders real bad under braking. Dylan - :P
  13. The Cable tie fix is not that hard to do really probably a 5minute job, will see if i have that 5 minutes to do it tomorrow morning :P And yep Toyota machined my front brake rotors under warranty! (Dylan you should try Wollongong Toyota since they have done it on my car ;) ) I wasn't expecting it after 33,000kms and 18 months but when i rang them up and told them about the steering wheel shudder under braking they immediately said i wouldn't be expected to pay for it and the warranty will cover it! :) Maybe it is a common problem. I was happy, and it made a HUGE difference to the feel of the car, the steering wheel shudder is completely gone and driving at high speeds the steering also feels firmer, i think the front brakes were a little "loose" putting the balance off and having had the calipers and discs removed and refitted helped.
  14. No matter where you get it from just bargain with them. The Exedy HD clutch kit price ranges from $250-$400, so bargain. Fidanza Alluminium flywheel (3.4kg) i don't know, Tom's Chrome Molybdenum Flywheel (3.8kg) i got it for $550, now it cost around $650. If you are after Fidanza pm Screaminrolla (hope you don't mind Dave) ;) Z
  15. BridgeStone SO-3 ← Go straight for semi-slicks dude if you want all out grip, don't muck around with street radials ;) The Falken RT225 is good and cheap.
  16. $160 is the damage, provided all my own lubricants.. Also got them to machine my front brake discs under warranty and what a difference it made to braking response!!! Couldn't believe it, might have prevented my little encounter with the towbar couple of weeks ago.. and next to go are the shock absorbers, for safety's sake :P Anyway i waited 3 hours for the car at Wollongong Toyota bcuz i requested for gearbox oil change and they had to machine the brakes etc.. Anyway a very nice mechanic attended to me regarding the characteristic gear cable rattle and i told him about the cable tie fix done by Stewart Toyota pre-recall and i had no rattles for over 12months blah blah blah.. Well he basically said the gear cable has a metal sheath on the outside and that could have expanded from the heat in the engine bay since the cables are so close to the extractors, the heat could have caused the cable inside to rattle against the metal outer sheath. He said the cable ties could have helped prevent the metal sheath from expanding but wouldn't recommend or do it since the rattles arn't affecting performance at all, hence not warranted. So there you go for those interested and can try the cable tie method if you like AT YOUR OWN RISK. I will be doing it when i get the time and post some pics up for all. Z
  17. The engine shutdown noise from the CAI is great, but the mechanical startup noise from the TOM's flywheel is even better.. Toyota mechanics don't know what the hell's going on and shuts it down, then starts it up again thinking something is not right! :D :D
  18. I think car manufactureres are trying to come out with more environmentally freindly hi-performance technology hence no turbos, using sohc etc.. 160bhp is 118kw from 2400cc is actually ok, same spec as our Honda CRV and Odysseys's 2.4 i-VTEC. The engine specs for the Eclipse GT are very similar to Nissans new 350Z and Skyline.. max power is 260hp (20hp less than 350Z) at low revs and utilising its big torque. I think i hear another rough revving and nosiy engine like the 350Z's :(
  19. There are already a few guys here with close to or more than $10grand worth of mods done to their Stivos and it turns out very nicely with that much money put in. I honestly say it easily puts quite a few $40-50grand "Sports Cars" to shame on the straight and on the track. If only aftermarket parts are available more readily and affordable for the Stivo <_< ** A Daihatsu Copen is a "SPORTS CAR"!!!! ** I think its way too subjective.. A Car means different things to people.. some think coupe, some think convertible etc. Some people like to drive "Sports Cars" like the Z3 or Ford Cougar because it has that "Feel" and some others like the S2000 or Integra TypeR because of raw performance. Now who is right and who is wrong? They are all classified "Sports Cars", just different people with different tastes. The Stivo has a raw character behind its soft suspension and comfy interior.. looks aside, but its got my vote as a "Sporty" car. my 0.02cents :D
  20. Revs should be he same though as its determined by the gear ratios and wheel/tyre sizes. The hssing noise should only be on startup when the car is cold. Z
  21. I think that's why the Celica and MR-S are priced at over $40grand while our Stivo is at $28,990 ;) Anyone read the latest MOTOR BFYB comparo? The Stivo missed out yet again :(
  22. Over 100km to Sydney for me and i do it regularly too :( Clocking abt 20,000kms or more a year but i guess i bought a car to DRIVE it.
  23. The lightweight flywheel won't slow you down Justin ;) To land LIFT 1-2 with a lightweight flywheel is still possible. But it works best on the track with plenty of part throttle/full throttle acceleration.
  24. Good stuff eh Justin :D that's what the Stivo rewards you with if you can master it.. i am still trying with lighter TOM's flywheel i just can't seem to get enough revs or maybe i am just not trying hard enough.. need to practice holding my right foot down a little bit more.. but sometimes i try too hard till i beat the synchros :( oh oh btw i also managed to land LIFT on 1-2 change up going uphill when driving up Macquarie pass, exiting one of the 15km/h hairpins! :D but that was before the new clutch/flywheel and wheel/tyre mod
