  1. Awd Turbo vs Fwd N/A.. the Golf V with a good launch, its all finished by 2nd gear :( Rolling start maybe u can keep up.
  2. I think its considered acceptable to have a few quality problems with new cars nowadays. Nothing is perfect, and i know mine is far from perfect and we all expect a NEW CAR to be perfect but it is not, and will never be. Just like our missus :P Every car is different so each car will have its own "problems" and what are considered "problems" to one might be considered acceptable to another, so just love what we have and count ourselves lucky we ain't driving a heap of junk.
  3. Is he talking the T-Sport Compresor?? i think the Civic will still win overall, not just due to performance but also built quality, driving enjoyment, ergonomics, looks etc.. the Clio 182 is quick and exciting to drive and looks mean with its stripes :P, but quality, and ergonomics probably can't beat the Jap duo and the Clio's engine would feel "dull" compared to the other high revving engines screaming over 8000rpms, although it does have fat torque and power right through the rev band. Each to their own i guess.. i would have loved to take home the Clio Sport 182 i sat in at the motor show though, i just hated the quality and design inside the car.
  4. Vortex98 is good fuel, BP Ultimate is a little bit more sluggish from my last exerience with it.. But i even throw in the odd tanks of Vortex95 or Shell 95Unleaded if i cannot find 98Octane fuel and i can't really feel any difference even with 95 Octane. Maybe there is like a couple of horses diff but don't think it wil be that noticeable on the road.
  5. hehe, well a standing start drag i believe the RX8 will be quicker but coming out of bends like on a race track i am sure the Stivo kicked my mate's mate's RX8, half an hour's worth of bumper to bumper racing doesn't lie. The N/A rotary has little torque down low, and my Stivo just pulled harder out of tight corners in 2nd gear especially. Even the RX8 driver said i was punchier out of corners. I think its a combination of the RX8's weight, torque and gear ratios. And on the straight we accelerated together with the RX8 behind me from 3rd gear, we were line ball all the way until i shifted into 4th and i slowly pulled away. He was in the slip stream too so with that much more power i expected the RX8 to creep ahead.. I didn't ask him about straight line difference because i don't want to upset anyone and he didn't talk about it, just said the Stivo had power :P And Ilivefor6's RX8 is not stock is it, so not worth comparing plus you didn't actually drive your Stivo comparing it side by side on the track of course u wouldn't believe me.. who would? Even i didn't until i ran against it. It was the MX5 that was the surprise package, great car, very agile and quick on turn in and low-mid speed corners, high speed corners can be a little nerve wrecking.. my mate driving it told me it was a very balanced car between understeer and oversteer, easy to control on the limit. But he said the MRS is better bcus he used to drive mid-engined rwd cars, a MR-2 turbo and an MR-S. Just too bad these (excl. MR2 Turbo)great handlers lack in the engine department.
  6. 280bhp = 206kw so 270bhp should be right on 200kw at the fly. Although it is still a Corolla but i believe its worth every penny this "Super RUNX" if it comes with the specs they say they would. "Corolla" is just a badge but if it can outrun a Ferrari i want one :P I think they are trying to make it a contender for the Impreza WRX. Anyone knows when Mazda will be releasing the Mazda3 MPS or is it just a rumour?
  7. Had a great run with a 6 speed MX5 (superceeded model) and a RX8. Anyway the 2 Mazdas were both stock except the RX8 has a buckled front wheel from hitting a curb, but to my surprise both stock Mazdas were very quick in the bends, especially tight hairpin turns but on higher speed corners my Stivo with my suspension bits was able to keep up while the MX5 was doing small zero-counter slides :o and mid-corner throttle liftoffs saw a bit of oversteer, that's the fun of rwd. Very exciting to watch from behind in my Stivo! Their 50:50 weight distribution really excelled and the Stivo's front heavy fwd really took a beating understeering when pushed to the limit, even oversteered on one occassion when i went in way too hot and jumped on the brakes. Where the Stivo excelled was the power of the 2ZZ-GE! B) The RX8's rotary engine has less torque than the Stivo when driving out of tight corners so i was able to pull away each time in 2nd gear, and when floored full throttle, it was very close, pretty much neck and neck in 3rd until 4th gear my Stivo seemed to pull away all so slightly, no kidding or maybe it was his buckled front wheel. I would think its down to the tall gearing of the RX8, where 3rd gear maxes out close to 150km/h where i would be in 4th. But the rotary was so sweeeeeet sounding past 7500rpm to 9200rpm!! The MX5 would win the battle of the bends being the most agile, easiest to control and most fun! Braking was also the best it seems being the lightest car. Too bad it lacks straight line squirt. I'm sure the MX5 SP would be a blast to drive (provided it has an LSD)! The run was almost like Best Motoring's togue challenge where C-One's Celica took on the AE86, or the one where the EG6 Civic took on the MR-S, the RWDS always prevail when it comes to bends. ;)
  8. Ohh.. that's close! You might have just taken out the "TOCAU - Most Loyal ZZE123 Corolla Sportivo Owner" title Dylan! :P But are there any other 03' Stivo owners on this forum?? I remember a few other Sydney boys have 03' Stivos..
  9. I think get the lot if you can afford it. I have the rear swaybar, front strut-bar, whiteline control springs, Koni-yellow shocks and front camber at -1.5 and i can tell you honestly the handling has improved heaps and i will definitely go with Whiteline again next time. The parts they recommended really complement each other. Don't fporget though to trully feel the benefits you got to be pushing the car hard around bends, just driving around the city you won't feel a thing. The strut bars only stiffen the chassiss for more responsive turn-in, but does not combat body-roll. The swaybars, springs and shocks are the ones controlling body-roll.
  10. You have a point there Buddha. I should have rephrased the sentence "all you need is 30mins to fall asleep, after a huge supper!" :P
  11. Cruise COntrol is DANGEROUS!!! I was driving down to Melbourne last week in a Honda Accord Euro and with cruise control on i was too relaxed i fell asleep at the wheel. That's due to the fact that my legs don't move and i do not have to pay attention to the speedometer. If i had driven normally my right ankle would have to move due to the need to step on/off the gas pedal and i had to pay more attention to the speedometer. I NEVER ONCE fell asleep without cruise control on, even when driving for more than 2 hours. With cruise control all you need is 30mins! I think cruise control gives our legs a break but we MUST NOT leave it on for extended periods, it can be fatal!
  12. Too may variables affect fuel consumption but i had a shock last month when i went back to BP Ultimate after 5 months of Caltex Vortex98 and i got 550km, down from an average 600+ kms when i was on Caltex. I use the same engine oil all the time and drive on the same roads with very similar driving style. I am guessing it could be the ECU making the car run richer due to a different fuel after so long on Vortex98, hence poorer economy for the 1st tank. But i have stopped being so picky with my fuel due to pricing and availability. When i am low i just drop into BP, Caltex or Shell (last option due to horror stories always being told about Optimax). Caltex and Mobil's 98RON are usually more expensive, Mobil's Synergy 8000 is way too expensive and i can't find any Mobils down where i live anyway so don't use them.
  13. Its never happened to me, the oil level on the dip stick has never exceeded the MAX mark so i am very surprised. Maybe they did it for a reason like with the weather being so much warmer more oil could be used?
  14. I checked my oil today and was surprised to see the lever indicate more oil than i require. Its about 1cm over the MAx mark. The last service was a 40,000km service and i have since covered 2000km. It was serviced by Toyota and i supplied my own oil which they never returened the remainder to me hence i suspect they used the full bottle! Would too much engine oil harm the engine?
  15. Ouch Craig, u sure u alright? :P Now where is "Buddha" on this topic?
  16. Just want to know who has had their Stivos the longest! I am guessing it could be Dave aka Screaminrolla. I personally have had it for almost 2 years now :)
  17. Considering the ridculous fuel prices nowadays there is a possibility.. but i think i still love my Rolla alot, i shouldn't be fickle minded :P
  18. Hehe Zee ive seen ur posts with the whiteline dudes in another forum... where did u get urs all fitted> I went to 2 diff places to have stuff fitted cuz i did them in 2 steps. I got Pedders to fit some earlier this year and the shocks were fitted yesterday at Figtree tyres. More economical to get them all done the same time ;)
  19. What model Corolla are u driving? Also get them to check the other suspension components while you are at it.
  20. Check out this link, i enquired abt the parts last year. Suspensionparts.info Whiteline As to camber i think -1.5 degrees will wear out the inside a little quicker. The handling improvement is GREAT though (tested it last night through the national park), the tyres don't even squeal when pushed HARD through tight hairpins. If worried about tyre wear set it at -1 (Whiteline recommends -1 as a "Touring" setup and -1.5 as a "Sport" setup). I also have an Excel spreadsheet on the kit but don't know how to post it here. But i think the link above should suffice. Z
  21. For less than or approx. $2000 you can also get the suspension kit from Whiteline including options for the ZZE122/123. You can option it up with a front 24mm swaybar, front strut bar and polyurethane D bushes. The kit consists of rear 22mm sway bar, control springs (35mm lower), Koni Yellow adjustable shocks, camber bolts. All these with a good wheel allignment and 1.5degrees -ve camber in the front wheels will make the car a much better handler for street or occassional track use. You can purchase these parts seperately and do one at a time but do factor in labour costs. Then if you want to spend more go with Coilovers + all the bars + proper wheel allignment. Also don't forget tyres. They are very important if you want to compliment the suspension.
  22. Corzza, i did see a car parked on the side of the road when we were turning into the natio park and immediately the thought of a cop came to my mind. I was the 3rd last car and i did remember seeing your car fall behind slowly but didn't think too much of it and thought you would catch up. Lucky for all of us i guess ;) Cooley/Bill, i think the Konis were setup a bit too stiff for the Nasho run.. i was bouncing everywhere but i had VERY good grip out of those tight hairpin corners. I guess 1.5 degrees -ve front camber helped a lot too but the Konis are stiff as, but as soon as i got back on the smoother surfaces.. ahhh bliss! :D My mate holding on to the camera in the back seat was going like "drive faster drive faster" but when i did he couldn't hang on! They were screaming in my ears constantly "35km/h, 45km/h.. slow down slow down!" Great meet/cruise anyway, 1st time i've done the nasho run and it was impressive! I want to thank Bill for organising to meet up with Craig the Snowflake and all that turned up! It was a pleasure to meet everyone there and also the "Snowflake" after getting to know him on this forum in early 2004!!! Pictures and video i will have to see if its actually worth posting up here :P Cheers, Zee
  23. How much for a 3 door with everything u have? I was thinking of trading my Stivo for one but thought i might wait for the "Sportivo" version if there is going to be one. Can your mate do me one with no more to pay? If not i will wait :P oops just noticed u r in WA :P
  24. correct Zee has Black plates that are unmissable Why have Purple on a black car all I can think is it's a female driver... Not me, like Dylan said my plates are black :)
