  1. Thanks man, thats what i thought and the fuel treatment and engine flush costs close to $100 so i will definitely bring it up with them next time. I don't remember ever having them performed on my car, they did try to convince me into it once over the phone but i flatly refused. Now they are just doing it without my knowledge. Update on the service is that the car felt really nice to drive post service. I gave it a good 200kms and amazingly whatever they put into my gearbox it is now shifting smoother than ever before. My synchros seem to be working well now right from the word go. Might be all psychological or could have the very cool weather today played a role in the improved performance? Time will tell. ;)
  2. I've seen 4WDs, Camrys, Magnas, WRXs, Bikes (Yamaha R1 - undercover).. all these were unmarked, and officers looked off duty.
  3. For Toyota Mechs or anyone, what is that "torque fluid" they filled into my gearbox? I know its a universal lubricant but do they add it on top of a transmission fluid or just that alone? I requested them to change my gearbox oil bcus my Redline oil couldn't be picked up in time, so they charged me $41 for OP4 - "drained and changed gearbox oil", the "torque fluid" itself cost $18 and i don't see any transmission oil listed under consumables. Total cost was $237 for those interested, and i provided my own engine oil. They returned my oil bottle this time with only about 100-200mls left inside. Yet to check my dipstick but looks like they put a fair bit in. One last thing is the "fuel treatment" and "engine flush". I never requested for that and i don't think its standard items in services, can anyone enlighten me on this? I have heard that "Engine flushes" or "Flushing oils" are NOT reccomended and should NEVER be performed because in the process of cleaning the engine the metal particles can lodge in the engines gaps and stuff up your clearances? Cheers, Zee
  4. ya 10,000kms.. sorry :P btw service done today got charged $18 for filter.
  5. MTL or MT90 are both 75W90 GL4 and are more suited to road cars. I have Castrol Syntrax but like 1zzfe said its better on the tracks or when the car is hot.
  6. I do mine every 1,000kms now and i use OEM filter. Certain car manufacturers now like Subaru has extended service intervals like servicing occurs only every 15,000kms. I reckon thats great not to mention their new car warranty is for unlimited kms which is great for people that drive over 35,000kms per year.
  7. Well after using BP ultimate 98 oct for the 1st time in months my engine light hasnt come on! so what i deduce from this is that the caltex vortex 98 aint as good! Maybe a bad batch of fuel.
  8. Nice doing business with you Bruce, you were very professional, i am also very happy with the products i bought off you over a year ago, no problems whatsoever :) I wish you all the best! Cheers, Zee
  9. Welcome to the forum mate, from my mobile phone calculations that equates to about AD$1/- for a litre of fuel since 1 gallon is 3.78litres and AD$1/- buying 0.74 US cents. That is pretty good, still 30cents per litre cheaper than we are paying.
  10. DRIVERS: Giancarlo Fisichella Fernando Alonso TEAM: Renault POLE: Giancarlo Fisichella FASTEST LAP: Kimi Raikonen Sorry Honda, i need points in this mini league :P
  11. hehe and for me my neighbours won't tolerate the extra db :P :D
  12. I have recently started a new job and i drive 220kms PER DAY. I live in Shellharbour and now work in Liverpool. It costs me $150 PER WEEK for petrol thats $600 per month! Plus maintenace costs etc it really stacks up!! Most people think i am nuts but i had to do this for the sake of my career. However in the Illawarra region, recent statistics show 15,000 people commuting by car to Sydney to work each day so i am sure i am not alone. I totally believe our government and the corporate leaders are rorting us of our hard earned money. I am an avergae income earner (for those that don't know i am a Registered Nurse) so i tell you i definitely can feel the pinch when petrol prices rises like that. It is not just petrol prices i am very sussed about, it is inflation with the costs of all our basic neccessities rising like food, insurance etc etc.. and just to let yous know Nurses' salaries have only risen approx 12% in the last 10years thanks to our union's vigorous fight, but compare to housing prices, petrol prices and inflation, they have all risen by approx 100%!! I think i have the right to ask for a change of government which i have been trying for the past 2 elections. John Howard's kids are not the ones working their a.s.s.e.s off in our hospitals, they are not the ones fighting "terrorists" in Iraq, their government don't give a rat's a.s.s. about low-average income earners, so long as he keeps corporate leaders and overseas investors happy. It's a sad downside of capitalism unfortnately. But i think we should count ourselves lucky having John Howard, its a blessing compared to the yanks having a sickening idiot like George Bush <_<
  13. The price of a Yaris YRX can get you the NEW Civic Vti? and you get a 1800cc motor with the Civic, double wishbone rear suspension, roomier interior, space age dash etc. but do lose out a little on options compared to a Yaris YRX which has everything. I have also heard people paying $19Gs for the Yaris YR 1300cc though probably with some opions and i wonder why they do that.
  14. Bloody awesome.. VTEC engagement at 5500rpm and is that toggle switch NOS? i would assume so can hear the "swishing" noise and that engine sounds insane at ??11,000-12,000rpm?? did anyone also notice that pre VTEC it was gutless and after VTEC engaged at 5500rpm the revs picked up a little speed but not much and at 7000rpm it just blasted off, it looked as if it was losing traction at those revs which could be a possibility even on a dyno, the camera man couldn't even stay still! looks like it probably has one of those stage 3 cams.
  15. Condition of the engine, the type of engine oil (mineral vs Synthetic), the type of petrol (reg unleaded vs premium), modifications to the car (eg. wheel size, intake/exhaust, ecu tuning) etc etc all play a part in fuel consumption so if you have a good engine, use full syntetic engine oil and use premium fuel and service your car regularly, and has no mods and still getting very low mileage something is wrong. I would have thought 1zzs are more fuel efficient compared to 2zzs.. even my Stivo with some hard driving can come ou with about 550kms minimum, usually normal driving with a few LIFT sessions here and there i can get 650kms average, but i spend most of my driving on the freeway though in 6th gear.
  16. Looks good mate, and its good to see that I'm not the only parranoid pole parker. Jebus, i don't reckon you could get closer to the left if you tried, love it!! JC :D didnt think that was the left...! Yeah, the other left. I knew what I meant . . . . . .lol. Now it depends if the car is infront and ur looking at it like in da photo or if u have the car at ur back .... then it could pretty much be ur left :P :P :P :P .... Now that the topic has been de-railed n dragged way off topic .... Can anyone else suggest anything to help our good friend here ..... Don't get a rear skirt :P :P
  17. plenty of Celicas too.. anyone experienced like a little shudder from the gearstick when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at normal engine speeds? btw i rev match all the time. Just find it wierd or is that normal?? I think my gearbox probably has seen too manuy 1-2 LIFT changes in the past :( but it shouldn't be happening, i still have 10mths warranty left but then Toyota might say i'm not supposed to rev past 6000rpm anyway! Lets just hope a change of gearbox oil will fix it or it mirraculously disappears like some things.
  18. yeh i don't think GL5 is all that bad, its actually really good for protecting the gears themselves but maybe with synchros GL4 oils just do a better job, i think GL5 is good with gearboxes that have no problems and GL4 is better for gearboxes with a little bit of shifting problems. That's my assumption ;)
  19. Count me in too as "reserve" (if 10 is maximum) or whatever guys. Please pm me indecent when things are finalised so i can arrange payment and shipping with you etc.. Cheers :)
  20. Looks like your car is getting ready to hit the track! Nice, i want your brake and alarm setup! B) :P
  21. Yep, same as my work... I've seen a lot of mechanics that just don't care about when they're putting oil in the cars... Always overfilling and so on... But in my workshop, every car gets a final test before it leaves... Check all lights and levels and road test... It's amazing how many loose sump plugs, blown light globes and overfilled levels which leads me to think who are these morons that I work with??? Where do you work Rolla boy :P I'll ask for you when i bring my car into your dealership next service.. But seriously these guys are damaging our $8000/- engines!! and i don't like that!! I'll be bringing this up with my service people this coming service.
  22. Can I ask though, has anyone had theirs done and now feeling like it is slipping back to the way it was.... I reckon mine is (again) but when I asked them to re-do it last time (cause it has now been done twice) they try and tell me that Toyota will only pay for a warranty repair once, which in my opinion is crap because if it needs to be fixed then they should be fixing it properly. When they finally got the fix right the first time, it was awesome....but now back to the bad ol' days... Aaron, when I was out at the drags 3 out of 6 of my runs I had issues with the change from 1-2. I found it difficult to find the gate and landed in 4th instead. On 1 occasion I was absolutely certain I found the 2nd gate clean but it just wouldn't go in so I went to 4th again. but the other 3 times it was perfect. Hydraulic clutch? Maybe what Toyota said about "Self-adjusting" is true?? or maybe its just the stock clutch? Coz i have no problem getting into gear, just can't shift as fast as i would have liked and it will crunch most times if i try hard..
  23. mine has ever since I had the clutch replaced :) the "stickiness" is gone but i still crunch gears on/off when i try to shift very fast 1-2, if i slow down my shifts a tad its ok and it only happens on 1-2 like i am beating the synchros. Could it be your driving :P :P :D :D It could well be :P but the problem i have now i had when it was new as well, just that the sticky shft is gone now but on occassions i still crunch 2nd gear even with my clutch fully depressed which says the synchros arn't up to speed yet -> "beating the synchros".. there was a period i had no such problems, so i really don't know where the problem is, could be that 2nd gear synchros are a little worn out now?? anyway will be getting Redline MT90 gearbox oil put in soon and will look at my old oil, so will find out sooner or later. In te meantime i just have to shift a little slower which just means no 1-2LIFT for me ;)
  24. Thanks man, i just did that and it seems most of the Celica owners are on that forum, great info there :) And i thought they were saying for synchromesh gearboxes we sould be using GL4 grade oil as "GL5 can reduce synchro life by one-half" - Redline's comments. ??? btw i am using Castrol Syntrax 75W90 GL5 atm and i have recently ordered Redline MT90 GL4.
  25. That's the same problem I have with the Penrite 10 tenths (75W-90) . It's Brilliant when the box is hot, ie on the track and through the twisties when I use lift, but for normal driving it doesn't seem to get hot enough (most noticable changing into 2nd and 3rd). I cannot fault the stuff on the track as it takes a hammering and still performs, but for everyday driving it just doesn't feel right. I bit the bullet and ordered some Redline MT90 for $108/- 3 bottles x (0.9...litres) required since most Celicas say it works well with the 6 speed. So when i get my car serviced i will get the guys to drop it in, and have to make sure they do though, $100 worth of oil is not cheap! btw Dylan is the Penrite oil GL5 or GL4? i found this from the OzCelica site, they took this info from Redline and its interesting to see what they say about GL5 oils. Castrol still markets GL5 oils saying they provide excellent synchroniser/gear protection and performance though I have used it since my 10,000kms service. Over the last 6months - 1 year been having more trouble shifting fast into 2nd, never had issues before but anyway all other gears are fine and downshifting into 2nd is fine, only upshifting needs to be slowed down a fraction to refrain from crunching. Anyway thought i will try Redine and if doesn't work i might need new synchros? "A GL-5 lubricant in a synchromesh transmission will shorten the synchronizer life by one half... A GL-4 lubricant provides adequate protection for most manual transmissions, unless a unique design consideration requires the extra protection of a GL-5."
