  1. $1100 for a clutch!!!! Those bloodsuckers.. u could have gotten 2 clutch kits fitted for that money. An Exedy HD clutch kit costs $300-$350. Labour should only be a 6-8hr job so between $300-$400. Toyota rips us blind. Like Honda charges $2300 for an S2000 clutch!! :o
  2. The Clio Sport 172 (125kw) is not that quick. The Clio Sport182 (131kw) is quicker and has stiffer suspension etc.. The thing is if it was a standing start the Clio182 should pip the Stivo due to torque weight ratio 9 out of 10 times. They are easier to drive and don't need perfect shifts like the Stivo requires. But drag it further like up to 4th the Stivo should reel him in (like a Stivo does to a stock WRX, RX8 etc.. :D ) . Now if its rolling start or ingear its also going to be close, if we are hovering around 6000rpm in 2nd gear driving out of a corner onto the straight (like Wakefield Park's) the Stivo is in its element and is fast. If its at 3000rpm, forget it the Clio182 will eat the Stivo. Now a Pugeot Gti180 has a 2000cc 130kw engine and very similar specs to a Clio Sport182, weight is also close although slightly heavier than the Clio. A stock Stivo (with K&N panel filter) is neck and neck with one of these Pugeot180Gti (with filter mod too and 15inch steel wheels instead of 17s and with Azenis RT215) down Wakefield's straight, nothing to give except in 4th which i believe the Stivo reels it in slightly. The Pugeot revs to 7300-7400rpm. SO guys the ClioSport 182 is capable but te Stivo is no slouch and revved out to 4th, watch out! B)

  4. You say they are as good as Toyo in the dry.... what about the wet? sorry mate , i never go too fast in the wet,i reckon they are good cause the tyre pattern have fairy wide gap in between,so it can drain the water well, it also has very solid steering feedback both dry and wet,i had used hankook k102 on my stivo before the Toyo T1r, when you do over 110km/h, the steering feels very loose, you dont have much feel on the road but i already have super low kings spring and koni shocks on my stivo ,still loose ,may be the k102 is not really a performance tyre. My advice is don't skimp too much on tyres, spending a bit more on tyres is like insurance, because for street cars we need something that handles in BOTH dry and wet weather. A more expensive tyre might not be as good as a cheaper tyre in the dry during a one lap sprint, but that doesn't mean the cheaper tyre will handle as well in adverse weather or wear as well or have as good comfort. You never know when you will get caught out so pick your tyres wisely.
  5. well put.. no point wasting our energy arguing with those idiots. There will always be ignorant people like that ClioSport driver that know very little about other cars and think their car is the greatest, especially after reading MOTOR or WHEELS. I'm sure all of us have been through that some time in our driving lives :P we learn as we go along..
  6. i want to remain either a Toyota or Honda driver, otherwise the Swift looks alright.. fuel economy is very important right now and reliability. Both Yaris and Jazz i have no problems, i guess Yaris has an advantage being newer but the engine is not. Price wise i think the Yaris undecuts the Jazz by abit.. Yaris looking good here. ;)
  7. haha i was way off too :P
  8. Nah, go POWER FC guys if yous are looking into ECU tuning, proven to work in Japan, USA and locally. Like Northy said 8700 redline the engine will pop in no time. <_< 8400-8500rpm is max for stock internals to last.
  9. Nikich, i have driven the nasho abt 4 times now, all with my current suspension setup.. my mates with fwds (a swift and Civic) have lowered springs only and all sat in my car on a run once with the other guys here at one of the meets and they said my car handled really well and i had no problems with "driving straight on".. braking was also improved. It was bumpy, but i was still able to turn sharply with no problems, my tyres didn't even squeal the whole way. Maybe its my camber settings at the front that helped but it was great. Besides i have Konis dialled up to 75% stiffness so it will be bumpy but stable. Then it was them that took their cars out with another RX8 and MX5, both RWDs were stock standard. The FWDs have no chance of keeping up with the RWDs. My mates cars with lowered springs only complained that their cars were so much bumpier than mine and very unstable they disappeared from my rearview mirror less than half way through the run. The 2 RWDs were bloody quick mid corner, i was ony able to keep up in faster smoother corners, but when it came to the tighter hairpins they killed my front heavy Stivo :(
  10. depends how and where u drive. mine lasted 15-20,000kms after lowering, about 1year.
  11. they any good the RT615? apparently the RT215 are only as good as high - ultrahigh performance street radials.. they are cheap though. Any prices on Advan Neova AD07 anyone and where to get them from?? http://www.n-1.com.au/advan_neova.asp $560RRP. So I would guess around $400-450 street price. They're in Melbourne though. they any good the RT615? apparently the RT215 are only as good as high - ultrahigh performance street radials.. they are cheap though. 12. My family is looking at a new light car, have a few questions here.. 1) What are the best deals around for a YR and YRS (manual) 2) also looking at a Jazz GLI and VTI, would yous choose a Yaris or Jazz? Which is more fuel economical, Yaris (DOHC) or Jazz (SOHC) and 1.3 or 1.5? The Jazz 1.3 seems to be best in terms of fuel economy so far with 4.8litres/100km on the freeway. Cheers, Zee
  13. i think someone explained what BEAMS stands for before, its something like "Best Engineering ...." don't know the rest :P nothing really, just seems to be a division that developed these engines.

  15. some guy that put my Konis in also said i have a flat spot in my rear tyre. that could be caused by the exact same reason Silva stated, stuffed stock shocks. now my wheel balance is all over the place because of that, steering vibartes at 120km/h and above. i initially thought it was the front brakes locking up when i tracked the car that caused the flat spot.
  16. i had my left rear tyre do the same thing once.. but not as bad as yours, my cut was abt 10cm wide and i basically felt the car "losing power" first then it was pulling left. Mine is a $200 tyre Yokohama C.drive and the blown tyre was only couple of months old. i had a puncture hole and the tyre started to leak and as the tyre deflates the rim cuts into the sidewall and over a distace the cut just gets bigger and up to a point it dis-integrates. I think thats what happened to yours.
  17. Damn, you can get Dunlop D01J or DZ02G for half that money. From all the tyres I have used on my car, C.Drive > Stock. C. Drive is good with corners, has a pretty stiff sidewall compared to the Turanzas but traction is only average (especially when cold), i guess it is a harder compund so it lasts longer. It is quiter than most tyres though so for highway driving the C. Drive is great. But it will set people back close to $200 each. btw i just noticed that the C. Drive is not in the pinned tyre lists!
  18. ADVAN A048 215/45-17 - RRP:$850 $850 each of course Stretch your budget a little further (about the $170-$180) and you'll have a 3 times longer list to choose from. Kuhmo's or Hankooks are around that price. The Kuhmo's are highly recommended by some fellow TOCAU members here. phoaw!! but i guess you pay premium for "R" spec tyres.. what about Advan Neova AD07? anyone knows where to get them? i know Shao and Weiwei had/has them. (sorry to hijack this thread)..
  19. Advan A048 ;) anyone knows how much these babies cost? http://www.yokohama.com.au/motorsports/
  20. I have that BMI vid :D its awesome that 3SGE, 250bhp, but anything TRD costs a bomb! Anyway i guess the 3SGE hasn't got much more torque on the 2ZZGE anyway, and it incorporates LIFT which the 3SGE hasn't got. Toyota should have developed the MR-S using either of these engines man.. but i guess the 1zz is a BEAMS engine too, all comes down to cost.
  21. well he shouldnt run you while running his car in! Dylan - maybe u r right, i guess its a waiting game now. Corzza - i don't think thats what Redliner meant.. he meant his mate is "keen for a run, in his WRX" :P but seriously if a WRX launches at 5-6000rpm its game over. if he stuffs up and drops it at 2-3000rpm maybe he will be in for a shock :D
  22. Thats where lift kicks in on the Matrix &/or Corolla in America. Its slightly different between the years of production, but I don't know it off hand. If thats true it sucks big time for those guys having only a 1700rpm LIFT power band
  23. Hell that's a tight fit!! and they sure that intake tubing is gonna work?? when LIFT kicks in it sucks pretty hard!!
  24. i will buy one if my brother in law hasn't already have a few bike helmets lying around. I might still get my own though bcoz like u said i am not into smelling someone elses sweat.. Yeh with the clutch i don't know, i think the stock Toyota clutch plate wears very well, my old clutch plate was only about 30% used after 2 track days and 20,000+kms. (remember at Wakefield the last time when i has my Exedy/TOM's i was complaining about clutch smell after 4-5laps?) The clutch plate seems to heat up much quicker than the stock one. Don't know if its the clutch material or something to do with the TOM's flywheel. Pressure plate is aliright, just the clutch plate material i suspect is a little weak.
  25. Forget the Mazdas i want to race the Renaults!! Come on ClioSports182, and Hondas!! the we can shove our timeslips up their a.r.s.e.s! :D Funny that Bill (Xoom), my clutch is also on its way out.. how about we get new clutch kits together since we both have the TOM's flywheel? I was thinking of getting the Exedy ceramic clutch this time or do you have recommendations? Dylan, hopefully i can beat your 15.2 if i do end up running :P (i seriously doubt it though).. my tyres don't stick very well in a straight line either.. now first got to borrow a helmet and have fresh Redline gearbox oil put in ;)
