  1. Hi Can I ask the members of the Aurion forum of their views on getting their Aurion engines carbon cleaned? Has anyone done it? Is it worth doing? I have a 2007 Aurion with 180,000 km's on the clock. Mechanically it has been solid with a flat battery the only 'mechanical' fault. I generally use Shell V-power as the price of petrol has come down in the last year or so. I've been thinking of taking to a local mechanic to get it carbon cleaned but I haven't been able to find many reviews or people's thoughts on whether it made any difference.
  2. On the stock GPS unit on my presera, there's a compass icon in the top left corner in navigation mode. If you press it, it will change the map orientation, have you tried pressing that icon?
  3. G'day John, I have a 2007 Presara and I've always used MICHELIN Primacy LC. http://www.michelin.com.au/Products-Services/Car-SUV-LT/passenger_car/Primacy_LC.html Very quiet ride and good performance, I generally average between 9-10L per 100K.
  4. I remember a few months ago I started to notice a slight vibration and noise coming from one of the front tyres, turns out there was a large metal screw embedded in the tyre. Any chance of that with your tyre?
  5. If it is the left hand side (the battery side) then you're in a bit of luck as it is the easier side. To the best of my memory these are the steps. 1) Remove the black plastic guard under the bonnet to give you more access to the lighting unit 2) Move the battery out of the way to give you more access 3) Undo the 4 screws on the black box that hold the lighting unit. 4) Once all this is done, you need to unplug the plug that connects to the HID globe, you do this by twisting it. 5) Finally, you need to take out the globe from it's housing units. It is held in there by a butterfly clip and an absolute pain to remove due to limited space you have. Don't forget to wear gloves as not to touch the globes with your fingers. The right hand side is even worse as you have very little space to play with. I remember having to move the hoses out of the way to give myself a bit more space. As I mentioned before, this is not a quick job. You'll need plenty of time and patience to get it done right because if it's $400+ just for the globe, god knows how much it would cost to repair the swivel head lights unit. Feel free to send me a PM for my number, more than happy to talk to you about it.
  6. G'day Mark, I have the same year and model car as you and also live in Perth. I've written quite a few posts regarding HID globes so worthwhile having a search to get a better idea. What Toyota says is correct, also that quote doesn't sound like it includes the actual globes themselves. Toyota quoted me $450 for one and usually you need to replace both as the colour between a new globe and old globe will be different. So the quote I got many years ago was $900 for 2 globes and $210 for fitting. What a joke. Fortunately, you can just buy the globes off the net and do it yourself. However there's 2 very important things to keep in mind: - You can install them yourself without removing the bumper however it is a complete pain in the a..e to do so. Set yourself about 2 hours to do this job. - Make absolute sure the globes you buy are genuine otherwise they will flicker in next to no time and you're stuck with the same issue. Hope this helps.
  7. Hi Chunks, Just going through your previous posts, I realised we spoke about HID lights about a year ago when you were replacing your bulbs. Good to see you again on this forum, I check it out from time to time. I checked out the eBay link you posted. One thing that stood out, no where does it say 'genuine'.. I remember when I bought my first pair and it looked very similar to the ones you bought but they were fakes and almost flickered straight away. I eventually bought another pair from here http://www.ebay.com/itm/130577158276?item=130577158276&viewitem=&vxp=mtr%20after%20double%20checking%20they%20were%20legit%20and%20I&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true Didn't you buy from the same place? My gut feeling is that you have dodgy bulbs, the good news is that the ebay seller states 18 month warranty so maybe try to get replacements but he may just give you another set of fakes so what's the point. You remember what a pain in the a..e it was to replace those bulbs so you don't want to be changing the globes continually. If it were me, I would just get some genuine stock globes and be done with it and pray it's not the ballast or anything else. If Toyota charges $400+ for just the friggin globe, god knows how much it would cost for the other parts. Van
  8. Hi, I have the same make and model as your question and had a similar issue when I had to replace the bulbs on my car. Quick question, where did you buy the bulbs and were they genuine? The reason why I ask is because I bought a set of bulbs off eBay and they flickered straight away because they were fake and s..t I made sure the second pair I bought were really genuine and they have been fine for 3 years now.
  9. Hi Nvrau I bought a '07 Presara about 5 years ago and overall it has been faultless. My best advice for you especially when buying a Presara model is to do you homework and know all it's features (and there are many!) and to test each any every single one of them before committing to buying. One of the great features of the Presara model is all it's toys however if any of them break, it can be painful on the hip pocket. Personal example, The HID globes need to be replaced every 3 years or so. The quote I got from Toyota to replace them was $1200. About $450 for each globe and about $300 for installation as the whole front bumper had to be removed just to access and to replace the globes. Needless to say, I did it myself for $150 but if you're not nifty with minor car repairs you need to keep this in mind. Forum example, one of forum members had a question about automatic rain sensors on his Presara and long story short, his car no longer had one because the previous cheapskate owner had cut it off just to save a few dollars when replacing his windscreen with a generic one rather the specific type that accommodates the rain sensor. There are many auto features on the Presara, I can't stress enough the importance to find out what they are and to test them all. Mechanically though the car is rock solid, I bought my Presara with 80,000 k's on the clock, I've added another 70,000 and the only time it 'broke down' was when the battery was flat. Hope this helps mate/
  10. In regards to the SatNav and DVD question. I have a 07 Presara and I'm assuming the two cars have the same/similar SatNav unit where there is a separate dvd slot for the Whereis DVD. In answer to your question, there is no issue with putting in a DVD that does not appear to be legit, it is just a maps DVD only and not software. It is possible to insert DVD copies of the Whereis DVD into the unit, please keep in mind that the Whereis DVD's cost about $300 so it not a bad idea to copy the original DVD and keep it in a safe place and use a copy instead. Having a $300 DVD in a hot car all day every day may lead to deterioration of the disc. Hope this helps.
  11. ABACAB has posted some great photos on page 2 that may help you. I changed mine around 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure there are some butterfly clips you need to remove to finally get the globes out.
  12. I bought a set of low beam globes for for 07 Presara from here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-D4S-X-2-BULBS-42402-C1-42V-35W-P32D-5-OE-FIT-ORIGINAL-XENON-HID-LAMP-DOT-/130577158276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e67015084&clk_rvr_id=527333957378 I've had them for 2 years now and they have not failed me. There are certainly lots of fakes out there and I learnt the hard way as the first set of 'genuine' bulbs turned out to be fake and started to flicker alnost immediately. Changing the bulbs on the Presara is a pain in the a,,e and not something you want to do too often,
  13. Hi, I have the same make, model and year car and had the same issue a couple of years ago. I also got stung by buying fake globes off ebay the first time and it's not a mistake you'd want to make too often as changing the globes are a pain in the a..e. I eventually got my globes from here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-D4S-X-2-BULBS-42402-C1-42V-35W-P32D-5-OE-FIT-ORIGINAL-XENON-HID-LAMP-DOT-/130577158276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e67015084 They have not failed me for 2 years. I've also posted/contributed to a fews posts on changing these globes....Good luck and may patience be on your side.
  14. If you're referring to my $1100 quote, it wasn't even the taillight, it was just to change the front low beam globes! HID lights have a life span of about 3 years and to buy 2 news globes was about $900 and the cost of fitting was a further $200. I read somewhere that HID globes needed to be changed in pairs as new and old globes projected different colours. Toyota stated they had to remove the front bumper to get to the lighting unit just to change the bulbs. The only other part that's failed me on the Presara was the parcel shelf brake light and that cost about $450 to replace by Toyota. I remember those 2 things breaking at the same time and it really affected my joy of owning a presara but since then, it's been faultless and (fingers crossed) no more electrical issues. Why on earth are you paying Toyota's ridiculous prices for such simple work? Sorry, but $1100 to change some HID lights is a joke. Ididnt pay toyota to do it as the price was too high, I ended up doing it myskef after buying the globesoff ebay but even then the globes were about 150 bucks. As for the task of changing globes,i agree it is a straight forward task but have you seen the head light unit on a presara? As the lights auto swivel as you turn, the unit is completely sealed and access is not as straight forward as you think.

  16. I bought a 07' Presara 3 years ago and overall it's been a great car. My number 1 advice would be to CHECK EVERYTHING! The Presara has some great toys such as keyless entry, memory seating, auto everything and even pop-up blinds for the rear window. The problem is that if anything breaks or isn't working, then it's big bucks to fix. An example are the low beam swivel HID lights. Mine needed replacing a couple of years ago and the quote from Toyota to replace the globes.....$1100!! Even just updating the maps dvd for the sat nav is about $300. The list goes on and on. Like I said at the beginning though, I really like my presara and it has been almost faultless for 3 years, still a really smooth and comfortable ride even though it's clocked about 110,000k's. Everything works but I dread the day when things stop because it would cost a bucket load to fix.
  17. Great to hear bearj, this forum has helped me a lot over the years and I'm glad to have returned the favour.
  18. Good to hear. My sun roof has a slight glitch where if I press and hold the close tilt button, the sunroof will close but then open again. To overcome this whenever I need to fully close the sunroof, I press the close button in short burst and this will allow the roof to fully close. I would suggest you fully open (tilt) the sun roof and then press the close button in short burst until it's fully closed and then see if it slides open.
  19. Hi, I have exactly the same car and model and here are a couple of suggestions. Regarding the moonroof, it has to be fully closed before it will slide, the fact that there is a warning light when you turn off the engine may indicate it is not fully closed yet. Regarding the headlight washer, the low beam needs to be turned on before the washers will work. Turn on your low beam and then press the button and you should see some action.
  20. Yeah, don't forget the $1100 doesn't even include fitting which is another $210! I have the same car and had the same issue about a year ago. A couple of points from my experience. - Buy genuine bulbs and be absolutely sure they are a 100% authentic. The first 'authentic' set I bought from ebay cost about $100 and were crap, they flickered and had to be replaced again. From memory, an authentic pair of bulbs for the Presara should cost about $150. Trust me, you only want to change the bulbs once because it is an absolute pain in the a..e to change. - The $210 fitting charge quoted by Toyota was due to them explaining that the whole front bumper had to be removed just to change the bulbs. The good news is that you can change the bulbs without doing this but you will need patience and fingers of a surgeon to get to the bulb. This is why you really want to buy the correct bulbs and just do it once. Hope this helps.
  21. Only comes on the Presara. It's for parking assistance. When you put the car in reverse and the auto-tilt function is activated, both side mirrors will tilt downwards so you can see the wheels/kerb/road a bit easier. Personally I find this function along with the rear camera and sonic beepers quite a useful package when reversing.
  22. On the control pad that controls the left and right side mirrors, keep the left/right mirror selector in the middle. This should disable the auto tlit function.
  23. G'day LeonG I share you pain mate, whenever I return to my car I always walk around it to see if some a-hole has scratched it or smacked their door against mine. For minor scratches and scuffs I use Repo paint doctor http://www.superchea...835#Description and then a bit of touch up paint which you can pick up from auto stores or Toyota for around $10. I highly recommend Repo paint doctor, you'll be amazed how well it works to remove scratches and scuffs. Is the scratch on your car is result of someone banging their door against it or driving by and scratching it? Sounds like a pretty serious door bang if it has removed all the paint. I've had door scruffs before as a result of some monkey banging their door against mine and the repo paint doctor pretty much fixed it completely. Good luck with you repair job.
  24. WTF? That's one strange beep. I've posted a couple of forums before on strange beeping but that one has me completely stumped. Initially, I was also going say it may have been the parking sensors but your beep is a totally different sound. Are you able to contact the previous owner and ask them what it was? Other ideas: - Does your car have an in-built sat nav/multimedia system? Is it something in there perhaps? My Presara has a function where you can set reminders for servicing various things? Has the previous owner set a reminder? - Does it beep even when the engine is not running? i.e. the electrics have been turned on but the engine has not started yet. Other than that I have no idea but I would be interested to know what the solution was. Good luck
  25. I live in Leederville and I will certainly give you a hand with changing just the parker lights, that's no issue at all. As for HID's, that's a completely different kettle of fish and a whole lot more difficult. What car do you have? If it already has HID, then you can follow this link: The good news is that you don't have to remove the bumper but bad news is that it is a whole lot more difficult than changing the parker lights. In your case, I googled xentec HID and those seemed to a HID coversion kit which is completely out of my scope and may mean you would need to remove the bumper after all. I have no experience with that. It looks like 'METAL13' is also from WA and you could ask them. Once you remove the bumper you will certainly have no problems changing the parker AND you would certainly beat the record for removing the most clips/screws to change parker lights, I reckon there would be at least 20 if you did it that way.
