  1. This is not about gears crunching or sticky gears. My shifts have been sorted out and is shifting smoothly. It's about a grinding noise when decelerating or engine braking. Basically gearing down it would make a scraping or grinding noise. It's a different matter all together. And I'm sick of people saying "THIS HAS BEEN COVERED BEFORE". Nobody here runs this forum except the moderators. Some people here on this forum is being a bit of a tight ***** by saying such things as this and making people feel stupid. If I was a newbie I would be offended by some of the comments made by some members. Sounds like you guys think u are better than the rest on this forum and being Nazis about it. I am not a newbie here and seen all the topics that has been posted since joining. As u can see I am member number 6 to this forum. if I feel I wanna post something up that has been coverred before then I should feel free to do so. Maybe we want comments or advise from other new members or some issues are not exactly the same, so naturally we would post another topic coverring similar issues. All I'm asking is to let little things like this go and don't be so uptight. Make new members feel welcome and allow them to post whatever they feel. Just relax man! B)
  2. I've had this problem in the early stages. if u sitting in the drivers side u'll hear it on the left of the engine bay. This has now since disappeared and nothing was done to it. If U are really concerned take it back and let them have a look but I wouldn't worry too much with it. We all had this issue at some stage but it is not an issue anymore.
  3. Looks like the same issue I'm having. I have brought it back numerous times to get them to fix this but still no good. They have done a "gearbox overhaul" (is what they tell me) so I'm not sure what it exactly means. They said they've changed synchros and gearbox oil etc. There is another member on this forum with the same problem which he has taken back numerous times too and still could not be fixed. Take it back to Toyota and see what they say. Hope you have better luck than us. If u do get it fixed please let us know so we can take it back and tell them what to do. :D
  4. I'm also surprised it failed quickly as well. I thought it would last at least 6 months. I also had a feeling it was gone before I lowerred it because I was hearing a swooshing noise when it goes over a bump. Toyota had a look and said nothing was wrong. I'm also confused over this as well. Can someone explain what coilovers are?
  5. hhmmm....Sounds good. I might have to wait till i go there. What other brands should I look out for there? I have no idea about these things. Just wanna ask another quick question...The knocking noise when i'm braking, is that because my shocks are gone? I was told it could be leaking and and the fluids get into the brake pads or something like that causing the knock.
  6. Yeah I was thinking Koni's as well or TEIN. Anyone know how much for a set? Also where is a good place that I can get them for a good price? I'm also think of going on holidays to Hong Kong and Thailand. Does anyone know if I could get a set over there? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. Thanks guys...I will check this when I have time... Hope it doesn't stuff anything else up. i wouldn't be surprised with my luck...
  8. Anyone who installed their door sills have issues with theirs? The door warning light on the dash is slightly on even though all doors are shut. It would illuminate a little especially at night u can see it. It looks like it's faded but it's on. I know KT has done something to fix his by taping the wires completely but not sure if the issue he was having is the same. Can someone please let me know how to fix this? Thanks
  9. I know this has probably been coverred before but I wanna get some feedback from some new members as well who have changed their shocks. My shocks are gone after only 3 months after lowering it and I need some info on which shocks I should get and how much it would cost me. Also what else should I look out for and is their anything else I should include with the suspension setup other than shocks as I already have lowerred springs. Thanks in advance. :)
  10. Mate..u are so wrong. The proper technique to a perfect launch is to rev it to 7000RPM, then shift the gear thingy to D. If u hear a loud bang, it means u done it right. :P
  11. Hey that was a bit harsh. People are entitled to their opinions man. I'm not trying to take sides or anything but if someone says they think it's possible then there could be a slight chance that it is possible. Talking or thinking theoretically doesn't prove much either. We don't know until we have seen it or tried it. I certainly not gonna try it but who knows it could be done. There are a lot of things in this world that would seem impossible but it turns out to be possible. I think we should give people a chance for them to express themselves. :P
  12. I know exactly what u are talking about ET8. My car is still having the same noises. Scraping noise when gearing down or engine braking. It's just came back from Toyota yesterday and still not fixed yet. They reckon they can't fix it. They have done a gearbox overhaul , replacing synchros, replaced clutch, changed to tranny oil to synthetic. Some mechanics say they can't hear it but some can. It's been back 3 times. I now have to wait for the warranty manager's decision on what to do next. I'm not sure why it's doing this and why not many others have this problem. I also have a knocking noise when braking now. Very loud on the front left. It's only when braking and normally when it slowing down to say 20km/hr - 5km/hr. It's so harsh that u feel it on the brake pedal. Toyota just sprayed some brake knock oil and said it's OK. The problem is still there! The guy also said they might not cover it under warranty as I lowerred my car and changed wheels. But I can't see how that can effect the brakes.
  13. What's the purpose of a voltage stabilizer? Do we need it and what difference would it make? Thanks
  14. This is what I've been told by the salesman where I bought my Sportivo from. He himself has a Corolla Ascent. He hammerred his car from day one and told me to do the same. The result for him is that he'll race any stock ascent and beat it everytime. He has been doing the same for every car he bought and same result everytime. So that's coming from a guy who has tried this method on every car he bought. Then again he could be talking sh!t. I myself hit lift as soon as I left . Couldn't wait to feel the lift!!! OH WHAT A FEELING.....SPORTIVO! :P I'm not sure if it made any difference though. I've never heard of someone trying this method and ruined the engine. For me, other things may have gone wrong but not with the engine.
  15. I'd love to be in but I'm working tomorrow night till midnight. I get back at 1nish. I live 2 mins away from there as well. If u guys are still there at that time I will definitely turn up.
  16. Hey westerntoyotatechnician. Are u who I think u are. Ur name starts with N. If so nice to see u made it to the forum. ;) Guys, this man helped me out with a lot of issues that couldn't be resolved at Warren Toyota. What a sik bloke. :D It's good that u joined the forum man, we can certainly use a bit of ur expertise. Enjoy ur stay!
  17. Check out the site for the Initial D movie. initialdthemovie.com Can't wait for it to come out. Should be out in Hong Kong next month. Not sure when it would arrive here in Aus.
  18. I think my driving is decent. I don't think it's my driving. Been driving manual since 17. It's been almost 10 years. I don't think I'm burning the clutch. I have always had this smell. I thought when putting a CAI in would cause more hot air to pass through the cat converter causing the smell. I know new cars normally has this smell because of the new cat. My fren's 200sx has this smell too and it's worst than mine. I thought this was normal. So I guess it's not. Another problem to add to my list. <_<
  19. I always get this burning eggy smell. It smells like half burnt oil and half eggy. I think it's the cat converter burning. But I get this more often now since I put in the CAI. I get it whether I drive it hard or not. Strange. I'm not sure if it's normal. Can anyone confirm this?
  20. There's still a scraping noise when decelerating. everything is good with gear changing. This scraping/grinding noise has been there almost from day 1. Couldn;t hear it properly before the gear selector cable was replaced. Now that they have fixed things 1 at a time it has come down to the last option and they now have to pull apart the gear box. This is at Western Toyota in Guildford. They are the best man. They are willing to listen to my issues and attempt to fix it. Not like the other Toyota departments palming u off and say it's coz of ur driving. They have fixed a lot of my issues that Warren Toyota couldn;t fix. I recommend giving these guys a try if there's problems that couldn;t be fixed.
  21. Sorry guys. Change of plans now. Can't make it. Gotta take my GF to work. Can't get there in time. :( But U's all have a good day and please post some pics when u get the chance.
  22. I might be there with my Honda Accord 94. My Corolla is getting the gear box pulled apart. I'll see u's all there.
  23. I might be able to make it but I gotta leave for work at 12.30. so I might just come by and catch up with u guys and I'll be off to work after that. Wont be going on cruise.
  24. I just installed the Simota CAI the other week. Just follow the same steps as the TRD one. It's exactly the same. Just remeber to reset the ECU. I found that resetting the ECU should be done when the engine is cold. So when u let the car idle it starts from cold to warm and therefore will adjust accordingly. I had a few problems with hestitation when accelerating but when I resetted the ECU when engine was cold it was all good. Good luck mate
