  1. looks like the new esotar woofer can now throw some punch.
  2. What is that big tweeter from Dynaudio? Is that the esotars? I saw it a lot in cars, but I have a feeling they are actualy for home hi-fi. That is the best tweeter I ever heard, it beats Morel Supremo and Scanspeak (same big tweeters type). But everyone told me the woofer is lacking in punch, and the sample I heard uses a different woofer with custom 6th Order passive crossover. This is for home hi-fi.
  3. Dynaudio sounds very nice, but if you enjoy Focal you may not like Dynaudio. They're just, well opposite of each other. Still, give it an audition ;)
  4. What do you meant by sound quality with not much bottom end?
  5. That actualy looks very nice. And 2.0 litre sounds like a good idea too.
  6. Try using outside air instead of cabin air circulations mode. I remember when I first got the Celica, it had smelly air-con. My Corolla never had smelly air-con, and I always leave the vent to draw in outside air instead of cabin circulations mode. So I did that the same to the Celica, and it's not long until the bad odour from the air-con dissapeared permanently. Each time you drive, there will always be fresh air coming in through the vents (of course you switch to cabin circulations when there's polution), and maybe that cleans up the bad germ in the vents, I don't know. But it work.
  7. My old man got the the old school 12' Rockford Power and it is powered by matching 100rms rockford power amp. When playing some heavy bass music at loud volume, each time the bass kicks it feels like an elephant just stepped on your shoulder, or your chest has been hit by a train. He use it for S.Q set up together with Nakamichi CD700, AVI speakers, Rainbow ribbon tweeter, and probably Audison amp. He seems happy.
  8. I heard BC coilovers are comfortable, and it's only between $1100 - $1300
  9. Yeah I heard Eclipse is good for S.Q also.
  10. These are the three brands I have experience with which can gives you OEM comfort if you wanted to. DMS, Bilstein and KW. I use Bilstein coilover on my Celica.
  11. Not all coilovers are bone jarring. Some even gives you much better comfort than OEM.
  12. You're keen on the Alfa as you fantasize about breaking down all the time :P Ahahaha, come on man it's a gorgeous car. Almost forgot; Mitsubishi Galant is a nice car too and very affordable. It' the family man's Mitsubishi Evolution.
  13. If you already have Sportivo, going for Celica would go ideal if you wants better handling to go with the manic engine. But you don't fancy its styling so it is a good time to go for another make. How about Honda Integra Type S or Type R? They are affordable second hand. Or you can go to turbo land and grab yourself S15 for some naughty rear actions. If not, Mitsubishi Evolution or Wrx STi for all paw prowess. If you like to treat yourself for upper scale brand, there are many European brands to choose from for quite desirable price. Alfa 147 GTA, Golf GTi, Ford XR5 and Mini Cooper S. My choice would be 147 GTA, shame it was not as affordable as it is now back then.
  14. Well, I guess we've said enough about S.Q setup. Let us know when you're done with your system ;)
  15. Or Boston Acoustics G5. That's one really nice subwoofer that can deliver accurate bass in any type of music.
  16. If your audio system and tuning is good, you will hear music playing on your dashboard as if the dashboard is the concert stage, where it sings right in front of you.
  17. As long as the sub can blend right with the Focal 3-ways. I am just concerned it will overpower the front speaker and turn it into bass machine.
  18. Yeah, I forgot I put in the VIC location. I'll change it later. I don't know when I can go for a meet, but I did saw you guys have thursday night meets. When I can go I will let you guys know on the thread.
  19. Your idea of setup is more towards SPL. It screams loud system. Going 3-way is a good choice for superb sound staging and seperations, and you don't need more than 1 sub-woofer. Sub-woofer is only to help your front woofer producing bass of the music. Rear speaker is not necessary, and to some point its not needed because it tends to ruin your front staging. The rear passengers would be better off hearing the accurate front staging of your system. Unless your system is something like Mark Levinson in Lexus or Harmann Kardon in Mercedes Benz. Sound deadening is very important, and applying dynamat on the door is not enough. You need to put in absorbant material like sponge between the door skin and the door panel, and apply it where its needed. The most important thing is the install and tuning, without it no matter how great your gears are its useless. Below are some ideas you may find useful. Speaker; Focal is a good speaker, so stick with that if you like. It is a bright speaker, but it may suits you. Recently I heard AVI speakers, they are great. DLS are also one of my top choices, then Morel. Subwoofer: ask which one that blends well with your Focal, and one 12' is enough. Even 10' is enough believe it or not. I would probabaly go for JL Audio. Rockford Fosgate Punch/Power is one mean SOB too, but I don't know if it can play smooth bass. Amplifier; I am thinking Audison for the Focals. Clean frq and powerful. For sub amp, almost any good brands can do the job. Find one that can power your choice of subwoofer. Head unit; this is very important. You want one that produce natural sounding, and I recommend Nakamichi CD400 as entry level for S.Q system. There is a pioneer HU that I really like, but unfortunately its not available in AUS market. You need the best RCA cables you can afford, I use Directed Audio Expert series which I found to be really good and don't really hurt your wallet as the outcome is brilliant enough. Good luck.
  20. I relocated to Gold Coast for a job, in case some of you didn't know ;)
  21. I test driven the car today, just briefly but enough for me to say the tuning is much more refined than when it was tuned with PFC. The power feels ready, anytime. An example is when Pippy told me to use 4th gear at a very low speed, say about 40km, and it pulls so easily. And that's not at full throttle either. 2nd gear, 1/4 throttle is already more than enough to get the pace going. Pippy showed half throttle and it shoots. Later when his clutch is done, he'll show me full throttle and I think we gonna need a harness here. And what that dyno shown is exactly how it is, very linear and constant. You just step on it and it goes. It's just very instant, and you can bet throttle response is knife sharp. I didn't even have to jab the throttle to rev-match, just tap it and rpm rises immediately. And as mentioned above, the car feels very refined. You can definitely drive this car everyday without problem and that's one big plus. No problems with air-con either. Everything just works. Just make sure you fine tune that right foot of yours Pippy! Congrats boys!
  22. It is expensive, but when compared to the same class tyre such as RE050A (both are premium top end offering from each manufacturer) all of a sudden it's clear the price is very very good. I remembered RE050A cost almost double the FK452, my eye nearly popped out.
  23. I think I paid $1050 for a set of 4. I can't remember.
  24. That's right. So for little torque cars like Celica and Sportivo, this tyre can do far more than one could think from the name Falken. Buy with confidence.
