  1. The only downside with koni is you need to butcher your front shock to insert the Koni strut. Not nice when you want to sell your car in standard form. Great shocks though.
  2. where are you located? I can come and bring the old shocks for comparison.
  3. i have a set in my lounge room. Did you have the PSS for Celica, or PSS9 for Corolla? So when will it be fitted to your Sportivo?
  4. There is PSS9 for ZZE, but if thats overkill then perhaps the PSS for celica is a good alternative as long as its confirmed it will fit. The shock absorber between Celica and Corolla looked the same, even though Celica uses independent arm and Corolla uses torsion beam.
  5. Yeah The Bilstein PSS (height adjust only) I am using at the moment is very nice on the road. And you can fit this into Corolla also with slight modification. Someone in newcelica fitted TEIN SS for Celica into his Matrix and voila. Bought mine for $999 USD last year. Speaking of which, any Melbourne owners got their standard Corolla shocks out from the car? I want to do comparison to confirm this because I always have this believe the shocks between Corolla and Celica have almost the same dimension.
  6. Anyone here have Bilstein PSS9? That's another alternative.
  7. OMG, you suddenly pop up again Adrian. Where's your Sportivo?
  8. If you lower the car by spring and retaining the standard shocks, no matter what drop (35mm or 50mm) the standard shock will wear out faster compared to using standard spring. I think that's what Whiteline is saying. And that is why it is recommended to upgrade the shock also.
  9. I am sure there is someone in this forum who fitted both front and rear swaybar on Corolla and able to provide detailed information as to how the car will behave. I know on Celica 7th gen, fitting larger front and rear swaybars reduces understeer.
  10. Mobil 1 Gold, full synthetic 10w-30 I was once running the Castrol Edge 10w-30 (i think) and once it reaches 5000km the car feels quite rough. That doesn't seems to be the case with Mobil Gold, but I would still change it every 5000km if possible. But 10,000km should be fine also if you don't push the car hard.
  11. very sad I was watching a documentary about Japanese work ethics and it is a serious issue. Part of it is culture, as Japanese men carry this sense of pride by working late hours. If he finish earlier, he most probably won't go home but spend some hours outside so he can go back late as usual. This way, the neighbor will view him as a hard working man. A foreign company in Japan shares one of its method of keeping its workers healthy - by encouraging them to go home when its time. That's right, these workers must be told to go home or else they will work till very late and attend the next day very early. Some very hard working culture there. But of course it doesn't meant the Japanese likes it, but the pressure from the top management and society's expectations made them work long hours. That is why if you ask many Japanese living abroad like in Australia they much prefer living in Western world, because they are free from such pressure. My Japanese friend would probably sell his soul just to live in Australia.
  12. Hello, I am looking for someone who have a std corolla 2001-2005 shock absorbers laying around doing nothing as I would like to compare it with celica's std shocks. Preferably someone in S.E suburbs for ease of transport. I just need to compare it side by side and measure few things.
  13. Just buy the front strut bar, that definitely help the soft chassis of the corolla. Then if u wish, buy the rear chassis brace by TRD, C-One or Beatrush (the same as C-one by the look of it, and i don't know why its called rear strut bar as its not fitted to the strut top of the rear). And do buy strut bar that don't flex, and the best one I've seen is TRD. Even Cusco flex a little but that is still ok. Something adjustable is not reccommended because majority is less rigid than single piece like TRD, and the reason why its adjustable its because some car the chassis is permanently out of allignment already, and that's where it requires adjustable strut bar to fit. Other than that, its a bit overkill. Unless you really need it for fine tuning the way the car behave. And just because its available doesn't mean you need all of them. Plus, the way I see it, the front strut bar and TRD rear chassis brace have a 2nd function to keep the chassis alligned together for a long period of time (read above)- that's if your driving style causes the chassis to flex. So only those two are, in my opinion, worth buying. By the way, if you install zero 2 with its stiff spring rate, you may not need swaybar especially if you are running stiff sidewall tyres. So do it one part at a time and see if its really needed. Remember, swaybar is there to help the shock absorber as a supporter and not the main player (shock absorber) in suspension tuning. Good luck!
  14. Yes I was passing Box Hill yesterday :)
  15. i think he just need set of spring as he wants comfort.
  16. Kenneth, that white Corolla on your signature, is that car using Enkei RPF1?
  17. Yeah its good the intake on the corolla :) I feel like changing my ram filter into Apexi unit one. The Celica is low enough, but sometimes I want to completely eliminate the fender gap at the front. But maybe not as the car will definitely scrape its front bumper everywhere I go. And apparently unlike the corolla, the sway bar end link on Celica will definitely need changing if I want to lower more than 2 inch. But I need wheels 1st i guess; 18' Enkei RPF1 is on my wishlist! We should catch up next time Carlo.
  18. Sounded like you're commissioned by Toyota to developed a hot-hatch based on your racing program :)
  19. Yes that was me, you were waiting at the lights right? Yes I was waiting at the light :) The Remus exhaust is unmistakably your car :) You lower it more now didn't you? How's the apex i?
  20. changing cold air intake will help, and i use AEM. Then you need muffler like TRD or Fujitsubo. The best website for Celica is www.newcelica.org :) But if you really want massive increase in tourqe, then greddy supercharger is the answer :)
  21. I think I saw 1ZZ-FE Carlo last Friday night, around 6pm, Blackburn / Waverley road intersection.
  22. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VVTL-i-VTTL...sspagenameZWDVW tempting, but damn expensive.
  23. that modification list is like an essay worthy of HD.
  24. Is it colder than Melbourne? I thought Melbourne is the coldest. Nonetheless, even in country like USA where it snow during winter the by-pass did no harm to them US owners.
  25. Don't worry the tempt in Australia won't freeze your throttle body. I am going to do this with my Celica but the room to work with is much tighter than the corolla. (Stupid ECU box) Anyway, just a quick review. Cold days in winter, the throttle body is ice cold even when the engine is at its optimum running temperature. Warm day, the throttle body is still cold. Hot day, the TB is just warm. Try touching that without bypassing it and it burns! For $4 (the cost of buying the brass coupler) this mod is a fantastic way to prevent potential power loss. I did a more detailed review for this thing, so do give it a search :)
