  1. A decent idea, but all the housekeeping to keep it all in order will make things more difficult. Personally I wouldn't bother. It won't really help things out in my opinion. It is changing something that isn't broken. ... And no Evan; you can't have a "FI Corolla" thread just so you can be there with only a few others :P
  2. I'd be washing my car 3-4 times a week at that rate On that topic, I thought I would add my procedure: Insert $2 -> High pressure soap: use to quickly rinse car -> Foam brush: scrub windows then let foam dispense from brush to spots all over car. Then quickly scrub underside of front, rear and side skirts -> Low pressure 'clearcoat': spray well all over car Once that 3 minutes is up, I then get my mitt and give the car a good lathering. This also works in the 'clearcoat' I find. Then once all that is done: Insert $2 -> High pressure wax: rinse off all foamy soap -> High pressure rinse: to give the car a good rinse. In the final stages of the rinse, I stand back as far as possible and spray the water at the car but not directly. The result is a stream of mist which will help keep the car wet while I dry it so that it will dry evenly.
  3. Most, if not all automatic headlight controls use a specialised ECU. You won't get this from the wiring diagram unfortunately. I'd say you're simplest and best bet is rigging up a 555 power-on delay circuit to trigger a relay for your headlights. This way you won't get it flickering on and off when you get some quick shade etc.
  4. You seem to have a lot of fun out there don't you
  5. Are you sure there is actually a sensor in there? My sister's Mazda 3 has a round bulge in the front centre part of the dash where the light sensor goes in the upper models, but there is no sensor there. It's just there to fill in the space. I would imagine yours may be the same since it makes sense not to put something in the car that is not used for cost efficiency reasons. If the sensor is there though (or you manage to put one in there), you would actually need to get either a control ECU for it to tie into your lights, or you will need to make your own light operated circuit.
  6. You should do a hard reset if possible and that means to unplug the head unit completely for an hour or two. There weren't any settings in the 'Navigation Options' menu relating to the receiver were there? My car is parked in the basement and I'm stuck in my room at the moment so can't really check it out right now. Hopefully your GPS receiver is not totalled. If it is, you will need to open your head unit to change it. This is what the WinCE/GPS board looks like:
  7. So long as you don't touch your car with the foam brush. I only use the foam brush to dispense foam all over the car so I can use my microfibre mitt and to scrub the underside of the skirts and windows. I used to wax my car weekly but now I only do it weekly in winter and monthly in summer thanks to the rising Queensland temperatures. When I take mine for a service, I always tell them not to wash it and they just say they don't wash it anyways due to water restrictions.
  8. dont forget the handbrake lol Sounds like something you have to remind Northy to do :P
  9. Twice weekly when I can (Thursday and Monday), otherwise I just wash it once weekly on a Thursday. I do a majority of the washing at the self-service car wash around the corner ($4 worth of wash), then dry it there and take it home. I then vacuum it out at home, clean the windows, wipe down the insides of the door sills, boot sill, and engine bay. On the weeks that I wax it, I wash it at the car wash as per normal then when I get home, I rinse it again with the hose quickly to get rid of dirt it picked up on the trip home, then dry and wax it.
  10. Sucks you don't live close by. I would be able to do that for you for great mates rates.
  11. I don't know if this may possibly help, but when I had a similar issue, this is what I did (in iGO8):
  12. Okay, so I went to get a wheel alignment and asked for extra negative camber for the track. Looking at my alignment report, it appears that they barely even adjusted that. What they did do is make the toe +0.5mm all round (or added 0.5mm... not sure how to read it). Either way though, my g** it makes a difference. So the question is... what's the go?
  13. Took her to the chiropractor and got her all straightened up. She is now one step closer to being ready for a run around the track.
  14. Spotted at about 7:20am on the Bruce Highway heading towards the city (Gateway Motorway): A black Sportivo Corolla with mesh grill. Didn't get a good look at you, surely must be someone here. Minutes later on Gympie-Arterial Road I spotted a Caribbean Blue Presara (or AT-X with chrome detail) Aurion with 20 inch black rims and chrome deep dish. Anyone here?
  15. I'd recommend not to try such an act. I've just spent a lot of time on the roads with people like that to get an idea of how they react. As said by mk1990 above, sure it feels good to annoy them like that, but there is always the possibility of you getting rear ended and then the bothersome process of getting it fixed. I only felt partially confident doing that cause I was sitting in 3rd and have the extra kick of the V6. Plus I was agitated when she flashed her lights at me.

    trd filters

When it comes to 'jazzing up' your engine bay, the only thing you will spot is the ignition leads... and the oil filter if you are really looking. Apart from that, because these are mainly imported items, are you that willing to spend a premium on them?
  17. If I just picked up a second hand Toyota (as I did last year), I would take it to a trusted Toyota dealer for the initial service mainly because of peace of mind. To me, I feel (most of the time hope) that they know more about it than another garage. After that, you can then do what you want. It is questionable as to how good the dealer really is, but it's just how I feel.
  18. For the intake control valve, no need to get anything OEM. Just buy some standard vacuum hose from Repco or something. A metre or two of it won't cost much. A bit over the top keeping spares like that but hey, whatever makes you feel safer. I personally feel it isn't necessary... unless you don't take care of your car.
  19. You can't always expect everyone to feel sorry for you.
  20. Looking good mate. I'm not a fan about some aspects of the colours (front skirt, decals), but as in all cases, each to their own. Good to see someone doing up their Camry though. Out of all places though, I'm surprised you can get away with tinted headlights/tail lights like that in NSW.
  21. Vacuum line for what exactly. You brake booster? Intake control valve? What exactly do you need a spare of? Because you can simply buy vacuum hose from most auto stores in varying sizes.
  22. You're welcome. Someone had to answer it. Man I think I'm addicted to this forum.
  23. Commodores are 5x120. Gen 3/4/5/6 Camry is 5x114.3. That answers itself.
  24. It seems to be a common thing for Toyota fuel gauges to show empty when there is 10-15 litres left in the tank. Just for reference, here is some discussion on other models: Aurion: Fuel tank and gauge accuracy And the Corolla guys asked as well: Corolla Fuel guage? When you think about it though, it actually makes sense. Think about the surface area of the fuel tank. It's like trying to measure 10 litres of water in the bathtub. The level (depth) of the water isn't that much when you put it that way which makes it hard to measure.
  25. A valid point, however it doesn't always translate to being safer etc. If you lower your car though and change the shock absorbers to suit the drop, then that is a different story. Shock absorbers are designed to work within given specifications. If you lower you car and leave the stock shock absorbers (a majority of people do this), then you are affecting the way your tires are put to the ground. Given the condition of Australian roads, you can experience quite uneven surfaces, and if your not getting full contact with the ground at all times then your ability to drive, steer and brake is compromised. Correction... DOT 5.1 Just saying this so no one out there puts DOT 5 into their car. Doing this will lead to problems.
