  1. Hey mate. Welcome to TOCAU. As I say to everyone; a wise decision on your purchase. There is a lot to be enjoyed with this car. What colour have you got so I will keep an eye out for 'ya around the area. The Aurion has normal service intervals of 15,000km. If you drive the Aurion fairly hard, then 7,500km service intervals are a good idea. the 7,500km service intervals aren't a bad idea either even if you drive it carefully, but it is not fully necessary. Under normal conditions, you will be fine with the 15,000km intervals. I don't know what the hell they were on with the 10,000km interval. My suggestion is to not go to that service centre. The dash rattle is a common thing. It's behaviour is a bit different for everyone. Yours is the opposite of mine. On really hot days (like the 37-38 degree day we had a few days back), my rattle quiets down. When it is cool, the rattle is louder. You can try hard to get Toyota to fix it, but it may possibly require a lot of back and forward trips to them as they don't necessarily get to it straight away. Just keep complaining to them. Eventually you will get your way.
  2. I would agree there as well. To the target market that the Aurion is aimed at, those drivers probably wouldn't even know the difference in driveability between FWD and RWD. When it comes down to it, the Aurion was truly built as a family car with subtle hints of 'sportiness' to help attract the market. This is excluding the TRD in which Toyota may have been aiming for the performance market, but forgot the crucial way to deliver the power. Anyways, if you bought the Aurion expecting track like performance, I don't know what you were thinking. As said, the lack of RWD would mean stuff all to their target market. Sure there is a market out of there wanting performance out of it, but they have to think for a majority. The thing that really makes me notice what the expected target market of the Aurion is, is when you have people making comments about the car. Every so often I come across random people driving around with all types of cars, modified or not. Usually after they give you (you give them?) a run at the lights (eg. tonight I was just driving like I normally do and attracted an unchipped Golf GTI), they say things back like "she goes pretty good" of "those have quite a bit of pull" or "I wasn't expecting that", then you realise that these cars have the reputation of a family car, but are packed with a surprise. These things aren't seen as a performance car. But the satisfaction of hearing things like this, and being able to preform better than the norm are enough to make me feel good about my car.
  3. I am booked in to have the SPF2904K fitted at Fulcrum this Wednesday (7th). This seems to be the only TRUE way to correct the issue. I'll post back with the results once it is complete.

  5. achk pretty much summed it up there. If you are unaware whether your tires are directional or not, the easiest way to rotate is to put the fronts to the rear and vice versa, keeping them on the same side of the car. I reckon that it is better to leave the spare out of the rotation only because it can get annoying keeping track of all the different tire wear. Front wheel drives experience a lot more wear on the front tires, so rotation at regular intervals is a good idea. Your Rav is only part-time 4WD right? In that case, under a lot of normal driving, your front tires would experience more wear. If when you take it in for a service and they say they rotate the wheels/tires, you can usually tell it's been done as the tires with more meat on them will be at the front.

  7. You're telling me. LOL. I just can't help it. Anyways, I would hate to think what my fuel consumption would be like if I had the TRD. Speaking of TRD, I see you are sporting some new decals underneath your side mirrors. Saw you parked near the cinemas last night.
  8. Just use a little creativity. Firstly just cut the mesh to size using wire-snips, I would give about 1-2cm of overlap which gives room to play with (depends on your bumper). Then to secure it, my fastener of choice is cable ties. Just look around on the inner part of your bumper and make your own judgement. On mine, there was lots of plastic moulding hidden on the inside, so I drilled a few holes which can't be seen from the outside and secured the mesh at those points.
  9. Spotted a shiny black 1st generation Toyota Celsior turning onto Avondale Road as I was leaving Sinnamon Park. Had a great kit on it and was hugging the road. You couldn't have missed me as you stared at me as you took the corner.

  13. That is a sweet looking Liberty. That was actually my other choice of car before I settled on the Aurion. I always envy such great photography. I admire how one is able to capture a photo with such detail. I wish I could take good photos.

  16. Very good point you've got there e240. I think what this thread should be focussing on are the things that the Aurion already has, but hasn't been done correctly in our opinions. Things like a manual gearbox and RWD/AWD were not designed into the car in the first place. We can't really complain about those issues because there is no comparison. I chose the Aurion because I obviously overlooked all these 'faults' and saw the car for what it really is. It's looks alone justify my purchase. I still can't stop looking at it sometimes. I especially like the front end when looking it from the side. Ma, how did I forget that? That was like the first thing in this car that really annoyed me. On a side note in relation to the sound-proofing that was discussed earlier, I had to leave my car out in the summer sun for a few hours today. Air temperature outside is around 37-38 degrees, and when I got into the car, for the first 3 minutes of driving, the outside temp displayed 43 degrees; ouch. Anyways, I just noticed, when it is really hot outside, the car drives a lot smoother and there is less road noise. I guess everything on it was all expanded and softened up.
  17. What does it feel like when driving? Does the engine rev high but the car doesn't seem to move appropriately, or does it feel really bogged down? I would firstly check your automatic transmission fluid level. That's one area that can account for a loss in power.
  18. Watching that just reminds me of Ghost Rider. That guy is/was crazy. If anyone here hasn't seen it, check this out. Anyways, this thread is getting way out of control. All this arguments going on that doesn't have to happen, mrs.sportivo telling people to suck her... well I don't want to know about her/his/its anatomic makeup, and general negativity. Fact of the matter is, speeding is downright stupid and irresponsible (yes, that includes myself), and there are a fair few people out there who do so on a daily basis, just some more than others. If you are going to speed on public roads, at least take SOME responsibility and do so in non built up areas. And don't go bragging about it a public forum either.

  20. Yeah, I remember reading about that a while ago. Now that is a true electric supercharger. Fact of the matter though was that it used three starter motors. As most would know, they drain A LOT of power. Not only do you have extra weight of the batteries in the back, but you need to give the system time to replenish.   21. That's correct. Because in a 4-stroke, 1 cycle consists of intake and compression, the next cycle is for combustion and exhaust. Okay, well I took it one step further for a little comparison. In my previous post, I mentioned the HowStuffWorks article. Using the following, I made some figures on my own: Now everything before the italics still stand fairly correct. The use of lift on the 2ZZ screwed up the rest of the calculations. So if we say the 2ZZ puts out 189 hp @ 7,600 RPM, then: - 189 hp is equal to about 500 million joules per hour - If 3.8 litres of gasoline contains 132 million joules, then to produce 189 hp you need 14.4 litres per hour - As an engine is only about 1/4 efficient, you therefore need 57.6 litres per hour or 0.96 litres per minute - One litre of gasoline weighs 0.75kg per litre, therefore the engine has to process 0.75*0.96*14.7 kilograms of air per minute - This roughly equates to 8.66 cubic metres of air per minute or 8,666 litres of air per minute - If a 4-cylinder engine is turning at 7,600 RPM, it can inhale 15,200 cylinders' full of air per minute - If it needs to inhale 8,666 litres of air per minute, then it works out to be 0.57 litres per cylinder-full, which equates to a 2.28 litre engine. ^^^ So I guess the use of lift gives the 2ZZ the capabilities of a 2.28 litre engine running at 7,600 RPM.
  22. I'm not good with the maths and all, but from what you have written, that seems fairly close. I remember reading the HowStuffWorks article on the Bugatti Veyron and found that the Veyron needs to consume around 45,000 litres of air per minute at maximum power. Bearing in mind, it is a larger engine with more power, but it goes to show the that air intake is quite a bit.
  23. Well actually, it probably will explode... ... From when the engine creates a higher vacuum that exceeds the push of the blower, and then the cheap plastic blades and motor assembly all break under the force and work their way up through the intake.
  24. Oh dear. I did not just see that. About the only gain you are going to get from one of those is the sound of a leaf blower under you bonnet. Wouldn't be surprised if you lost power along the way.
