  1. If I lived near you, I'd install it in under 30 minutes (head unit only) for a beer and lunch The good (or bad) thing about the Aurion head unit is that it is so damn easy to swap. If I were a thief, I could take a head unit out of an Aurion and be gone with it in under 2.5 minutes.
  2. Yes you can have it in your glovebox, and quite conveniently as well. Behind the glovebox there is a cutout that lets you access the pollen filter for the air conditioner. This cutout conveniently lets you route the iPod cable from the back of the head unit into your glovebox, no cutting required. You can even do this with the glovebox still in place as you can reach it all from the head unit side when it's removed. As for the controls, you can control it on the head unit, but the interface is crap. The display on the head unit has a layout similar to the iPod, but you cant simply touch each selection. In other words, when you tap the screen, it brings up an on-screen panel and you need to tap up/down/left/right/ok, to control it all. Quite tedious in my opinion.
  3. That's some good thinking there. Those guys would love to have one, especially if they could have it shipped over reasonably priced. I somehow think it is impossible with the design of this supercharger.
  4. Taken one for a test drive yet? Best to do that first since it may be completely different to your expectations. The Aurion is more build for comfort, so it feels kinda 'soft' and doesn't have that raw feel to it. I still love it though. Well in terms of the lowest anyone has dropped theirs, the Thai guys would take the cake for that. Around here, you're looking at Pedders or Kings so far. Pedders give you around 42-45mm of a drop, and the Kings are about 35mm. You can turn it off, but it isn't easy as a switch. You can only turn it off when you start the car, and it will remain off until you turn the car off and start it again. Read here for the procedure. Well it's definitely not a limited slip differential if that's what your asking. There's actually 3 catalytic converters and two sensors placed after the first two. A complete aftermarket exhaust should be fine as long as you keep the sensors placed properly and don't drop the first two cats. I think it's only the TRD's that are extremely picky with the sensors. I'm thinking fixing up my exhaust next year. Mainly because of this nasty surprise in the way: Hope that helps for now. Hopefully we may see another Aurion owner on the boards soon.
  5. Aww, come on man. You know you want it. You need to back up your TRD bumper with the performance you know.
  6. I was wondering where you disappeared to, hehehe. As tempting as it is, I must say no. Though.... a sleeper Sportivo would be hot. I can see it now. Put on some rims like PaulMT to gain extra grip and to retain the stock look, then I can surprise an unsuspecting TRD Aurion and more. Maybe even if the S/C can run at a slightly higher boost as well. Hmmm. I think I better put my mind on something else.
  7. Did you copy the sys.ini from the original iGO8 to the new one... or at least entered the correct resolution into the new one? If you don't have the resolution in that file to state 480x234, you will get that screen. I had it as well. It looks like an etch-a-sketch being erased right? That said though, good luck if you really think you can get the R15 maps to work on it.
  8. It should be, so a meet at the loop is in order. Just got a little bit of rain on its way soon, but it won't hang for long.
  9. Look at the fuse box inside the car. It is located behind the glovebox and is accessed from the passenger side footwell. All can be accessed with no tools at all. Let the pictures do the talking (sorry bout the dust, and ignore my footwell lighting): To remove that the panel in the second photo, you can see 4 clips at the front (bottom of photo). Use a little imagination there. If your finger is small enough, you press the clip in through the hole underneath. You should be able to figure it out when you get to it. The fuse/s you are interested in are labelled 'PWR OUTLET' and 'CIG'.
  10. I'll be there tonight as usual. Driving at night is more appealing now since I always have my windows down.
  11. I did consider that, but didn't want to get the 'fat' tyre look. In my opinion, that look can only really be pulled off by muscle cars. I actually had a read through here: Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2 It was quite interesting if you scroll down to the section labelled "Fat or thin? The question of contact patches and grip". From what I gather, the wider tyres won't really be as much of an improvement for my grip from a standing stop. As I said, I'll see how the Adrenalin's go. I should be getting those in a couple weeks time.
  12. W....T....F
  13. Most I have ever put in was 67.6 litres. Now that was a fun thought realising that I had about 2.4 litres left in the tank when I went to fill up. Never going to do that again. Most times I drive it till empty and with 0km cruising range, take it for another 30-50km then refill. Usually only put in around 60-62 litres.
  14. do you think it would make the handleing much better? I'm a little bit scared to change the wheels though due to ride smoothness. aurion sportivo is already a little bit on the rought side. You will lose a little comfort going to a smaller profile tyre, but it's a tradeoff. On the Aurion, it isn't that much of one either. It's just I am the type of person that likes hard acceleration (from a stop) and I feel that the extra 30mm of tyre width (19' rims with 245 wide vs. 17' rims with 215 wide), would benefit. It should also reduce some tyre squeal around corners. That said, I am in need of new tyres quickly, so I'm thinking of putting on some Potenza Adrenalin's and seeing how they perform with a 215 wide profile. After all, it's only street bound vehicle, so if the Adrenalin's perform alright, I will stick with my 17's.
  15. PaulMT - I like those rims. They blend in well with the car. Not basic like stock rims, and not too flashy that it looks aftermarket. Really, the the only reason why I want to put 19' on my Aurion is because I want a wider tyre so I get more grip. I don't want it to stand out too much.
  16. When I paid for mine on July 30 this year, the fee was USD$29.51. Ended up costing me AUD$31.99. I miss that exchange rate.
  17. I actually asked a similar question to this before: Fuel tank and gauge accuracy And the Corolla guys asked as well: Corolla Fuel guage? After many, many more tanks of fuel and others claims to back it up as well, we have found that once the gauge needle is on empty and the 'Cruising Range' says '0km', you have about 10 litres left in the tank and can travel roughly another 70-80km. I find my fuel light comes on when my cruising range drops to about 30km or so and/or when the gauge needle reaches about 1/8.
  18. Well the unit itself will look like it came with the car from factory, and with the screen on iGO8 navigation it will look great. However, the main menu system of the head unit itself (not the navigation side) will not look OEM. The menu UI is a little tacky on these systems. Otherwise, it's a good unit.
  19. Well on that topic, after a combined 4-5 hours (no joke), I have reached some conclusions. A majority of the downloads for iGO 8.3.x are all missing the correct 'data.zip' file with the 480x234 resolution. Copying and pasting the one from previous versions of iGO will NOT work. So then you need to scout the net for a proper 'data.zip' file made for versions 8.3.x. So after a lot of downloading, I finally got a base setup of iGO 8.3.1.57021 together with the R15 Australia maps. Put it on the SD card and went to the car. Splash screen showed then quickly disappeared and the head unit returned to the main screen. I thought it was the 'data.zip' playing up so I downloaded at least 6 different versions and retried, getting the same result each time. Then I thought maybe it was because my unit is running Windows CE 4.2. Did a Google search and found that this shouldn't be the problem. After more and more searching, I found that it is most likely a license issue. Found a license pack download, put it on the SD card, and fancy that... it actually got to the initialisation page for iGO where I could select the language, etc. Then once I did that, it said my maps were outdated. WTF. Did another Google search only to find out that the iGO 8.3.x is not compatible with maps from previous versions, and that there is no Australia map made to work on the new version of iGO. So that was some exercise. Conclusion. Yes these units CAN run iGO 8.3.x, however we have no use for the program as there is no Australian maps for it yet.
  20. But if the mod does make the car look fast? :-s LoL That's what secrets are for >_< The term 'rice' is thrown around so much I must say. There is a difference between good body styling, and 'rice'. Completely off topic as a different scenario, your girl may change her hair style, put on a different dress, etc and look much more attractive when going out. Others will look, but they won't know how well she performs.
  21. Good advice there Gav. I certainly agree with you there. A lot can change over time, and this includes tastes. Two years ago I was into all the imports and turbos. I was actually going to get a 200SX S15 and was so close to buying it. I then realised that I just got carried away in all the hype. I realised that I should be more practical and get a larger car instead, hence the Aurion. The only reason why I wan't to modify my Aurion is because I see so many others doing so, and I feel left behind. It's a bad habit that is hard to overcome. In terms of high performance though, I would rather save the money and buy a car dedicated for it as it was built to handle it. At the end of the day, if you just have it on the road and don't take it to the track, most high performance mods are either for head turning or personal satisfaction, or both. You just need to figure whether you really are spending you money wisely. You still have quite a bit ahead of you Will, and I think you would be better off saving your money in the meantime. You may get satisfaction from modding your Corolla, but would you be as satisfied if you couldn't keep up with living expenses?

My crappy photo as an example. Not much you can do on a point-and-shoot with a lens diameter of about 1cm. I really miss my SLR:
  23. So far it's been 7 months with my HID's from eBay (SUNSTAR HID) and they are still working flawlessly. No problems whatsoever. Can't really comment about the MARS kits, but it looks exactly the same, just with different stickers. Wouldn't be surprised if it was exactly the same inside.

LOL. That was cool. I got home and didn't realise until my folks said to take a photo cause it's going to be a while before we see it again. I couldn't help but smile as well.
  25. What you just described is transmission flare. There have been cases around here in regards to it. I get the transmission flare as well, just this is only from 2nd to 3rd and only occurs when the engine is cold (temperature needle under 1/4). The guys over at Toyota Nation with their Camry's have talked about it quite a bit. Just do a search on their Gen 6 forum for 'transmission flare'. One from here though: Problem with Aurion 6 speed auto
