I have gotten 55,000 out of two sets of D400's - about to start on the third set. Bear in mind this is all country driving - no roundabouts, which IMHO are prematurely wearing tyres out across the country. I rotate them myself every 5,000 also.

As per title, the General Grabber A/T is available in 19" to suit the KX-S and Grande Kluger. Has anyone had any experience with these? I am after a tyre more suited to gravel roads than highway

Been quoted $335 for Maxxis Victra M-36 in 245/55/19. Anyone got these tyres fitted and care to comment on them?

Yes, that's the way they come, "privacy" glass on the rear only - I had my fronts tinted as part of my buying negotiations at the time

Just clocked over 87,000. Had to have intermediate steering shaft replaced under warranty at last service. Surprised it's taken this long, as my Kluger sees a lot of corrugated gravel roads.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine (same model & colour) is now at 78,000km and I do not relish the thought of forking out that much for a service. Might first get a non-Toyota quote for this logbook service.

Thanx RR - I normally do internediate oil-changes, air-filter etc myself as I live in a country area and drive on a lot of dirt roads.

While the car is under warranty, I like to get the handbook services done by my Toyota dealer (who is in another town 60km away).

Seems there's a price to pay - and a big one at that.

I loved the first 12-months of ownership with fixed price servicing, but now they're getting it out of me lol

Just had my 08 KX-S in for it's 80,000 service. Was shocked when bill came back at $862 incl GST. Labour component was $477, consumables $74 and parts $214.

Be prepared for this one, as anything and everything that can be "inspected" is inspected. On top of engine oil & filter, the brake fluid, in-tank fuel filter, transfer-case oil and rear diff oil is replaced

In hindsight I should have asked upfront what it was going to cost, and it might pay to shop around when YOUR time comes.

Thanks - that was my initial fears. It will be a phone call to the Toyota dealer to get it sorted out; all the descriptions of the car had advertised it as a 6 CD player. Hot potato, hot potato!

Dealer might be obliged to, or offer some sweetener to the buyer? Even if they didn't notice themselves, the original poster said the car was advertised as having a 6-disc CD, so certainly has a right to complain. Knowing some dealers, it could be an uphill battle though!

That head unit is not from a 2008 KX-R either.

The one pictured in the first post is the same as what's fitted to my friend's 2006 Prado

That looks to be an older model single disc CD player, or one from a KX-R Kluger It doesn't appear to have Bluetooth either, which the KX-S should have. You could be stuck with the Wiggles for a while!

Hello gemiNy - I can help with some of your questions.

I occasionally notice surging when braking, but it always corresponds to the gearbox changing to a higher gear for whatever reason it's electronic brain thinks is right. Never could work out a reason this would happen, but yes it does feel like the car is running away slightly before the brakes start to slow it

Those very quick rev changes I believe are when the torque converter "locks up" and that is why you do not notice it corresponding with any discernable gear changes. Perfectly normal behaviour. In undulating country the revs will drop and jump back up quite a lot, especially when on cruise control.

As for the sluggish behaviour - I only notice it when the car is cold. This too is perfectly normal as the engine is regulated to only low revs between gear changes until everything is at normal operating temperature. Even if you press the accelerator to the floor, the electronics will not let the engine perform fully, and cause those symptoms you describe.

However if you are noticing a change in all this behaviour, it could very well mean that something is wrong :(

Would you believe after making the initial post in this thread in Aug 2008, I am still on the original tyres and my Kluger has just clocked over 60,000km. I have rotated all 5 tyres, and they're just about shot now. Not displeased with that mileage

Try to get a 22" wheel for my Kluger, can anyone see a problem if I fit 265x35x22 tyre with 102v load rating. Was told by the seller that I have to know the fact of tyre is lower by 6mm and load rating is down by 25kg.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

If you are in NSW it's OK to change the rolling diameter and speed rating slightly - but NOT OK to fit tyres with a lower load rating that that stated on the tyre placard. All NSW RTA info is here. Not sure about other states. Hope that helps :)
