2007 Tarago V6 GLX - Can it be an 8 seater?

Does anyone know if the current model Tarago V6 GLX can be made an 8 seater, (yes I know it is not a listed option but then foglights on a Corolla Ascent is not a listed option but is possible). I need an 8 seater and I want a V6, Does anyone know if it is possible to install the GLi 2nd row into a GLX or do I have to buy a GLi and try to option up to get close to GLX features? I have spoken to a couple of salesmen and they said it was not possible but then they don't appear to think outside the square, in fact they don't appear to even think to the edge of the square.

What features of the GLX were you particulary chasing? Feel free to email me directly.

Just kick starting an old thread, as it's topical for me at the moment.

Got three kids, currently have a 10 year old Commodore 7 seater. It's starting to cost money, and oldest (and his mates) are now too big to use back seats.

I want to be able to sit them in the middle row and use all the back space for luggage when we go away.

Have taken a V6 GLI for a test drive, and it's great in terms of performance, space and the way the seats work. Trouble is, at pushing $60k on the road, I think they're very expensive, and while the inside is OK, it doesn't feel like a car costing that much - compared to a Mazda CX9 for eg.

Have not seen a secondhand V6 GLI for sale in Sydney for three months, as that would be my preferred option. There are some V6 GLX and Ultimas for sale second hand, but of course they have 7 seats which doesn't suit me.

An ideal solution would be to get a second hand GLX (or even better Ultima with sunroof etc) and put the three seat bench from GLI into the middle row.

Has anyone done it, or have any idea how to? Are the rails in the floor the same? Doubt I'd get a matching bench from a wrecker, although did find a older bench for 4 cyc in dark grey on a serachale parts site. I could probably sell the captains chairs.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions please

D

Reply I got on this from Toyota vai web site:

Thank you for your email advising of your interest in purchasing a Toyota V6 Tarago. We are always keen to receive customer feedback and address any concerns.

We must advise that both the GLX and Ultima models come with a 7 seat capacity and unfortunately, you cannot order these vehicles with any other configuration.

I f you are interested in an 8 seat model, you would need to consider the GLI model Tarago.

In regard to changing the middle row seats in either a GLX or Utlima model to the 3 seat version from the GLI model, Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA) cannot recommend this, as it would be changing the vehicle from it's original specifications that have net Australian Design and safety regulations.

We regret that we cannot provide further advice or assistance in this matter, but thank you for contacting the Customer Experience Centre.
