Whats the Difference between a 7a-fe and a 4a-fe motor?

4A is 1.6L, 7A is 1.8L

In depth:

4A-FE

1,587cc inline 4

81mm bore, 77mm stroke

16 valves, narrow angle OHC scissor-gear configuration (aka 2 camshafts but only one cam pulley)

Electronic fuel injection

Approx 77kw

7A-FE

1,762cc inline 4

81mm bore, 85.5mm stroke

16 valves, narrow angle OHC scissor-gear configuration

Electronic fuel injection

Approx 86kw

In essence, the 7AFE is a stroked 4AFE

i wonder what the redlines on both of these engines are ??

i wonder if the 7afe has a lower redline because of extra stroke ??

7a-fe produces torque much lower than the 4afe . The cam profile in the 7a produces peak torque at 2800rpm and peak power at 5600rpm.

4a has peak torque at 4800rpm and peak power at 5800.

if you get a jap 4afe ecu it will increase revs to 6000 and add an extra 10nm and 10hp.

only 200cc difference but massive response difference.

7a-fe redlines at 7600 dont know 4a any driveres round here know? My 4afe has aftermarket ecu so i set the revlimit at 8000. never ran the engine with a stock ecu.

7AFEs are gauge-redlined at 6200 rpm. Cutout may be around 7600 but definitely not redline.

Also, the 7AFE in the AE112 has slightly different outputs to the AE102 one, the peak power/torque rpms are different, as well as the ECU mapping and exhaust manifolds being different

* A 7afe is not just a stroked 4afe, the engines are completly different internally, Pistons are different, Cam profiles are different, Valves are different sizes, 7afe uses a 2 piece oil pan, also the cooling system is different and more efficent on the 7afe then the 4afe's, 7afes cooling system promotes cooler intake temps for better knock resistance and increased volumetric efficency.

* 7afes fuel cut off is 6800, mate i used to be there everyday.
