hey guys my dad just recently bought a seccond hand holden VR and we noticed it was a little clean and tidy for the age of it

all the hoses are new, the wiring harnesses look new, and it drives like charm

but i noticed today that there was a weld in the right inner quater pannel and i started to wonder if it had been in a accident

is there any way of finding out if it has been in a accident by like some company or nething like that?

any suggestions are welcome :)

Thankx in advance

Cars that have had accidents are only listed on REVS since about 2003. If it was before then, it wont say.

Take it to a good mechanic or panel beater, they will be able to tell u.

well there is alot of ways,

1) usualy aftermarket/second hand parts have numbers on them

2) very sunny day/or at night with the light compare ur panels, fresh paint stick out alot

3) magnet, if it stick means panel havent been repainted

4) check bolts, u can see the bolts someone played with them befor

there is alot of ways....

but yet again, there are some good panel beaters out there. they can do pretty good job

theres new parts like the radiator is new, new pipes, new break fluid thingy, new air box

its like the whole engine was rebuilt

No, if the magnet doesn't stick it means the panel has been bogged over (or at least that part), or it's plastic. A completely new panel, or one that has bee beaten back into shape (if necessary) and then re-painted, will still attract the magnet.

I've found calling a dealership (parts department) & providing them a VIN number,If the vehicle is sorta looked after & kept in the Dealerships network,The consultant would tell you of its service history & if its been in the smashys.

If the engine bay looks like the parts are newish & its gotta weld on the fenders its gotta be registered, A job like that wouldnt be done in a back yard (well i hope not )

Do a REVS check on it, usually says.

isnt that only when its a rideoff/repairable rideoff

where do they ride it to?

HAHAHA... gold! This just adds weight to the literacy debate...

LMAO more forum gold.

There are 2 types of wriitten off (ridden off??) vehicles.

Statutory Write off's will have been recorded in REVS for a long time. This VIN number can never be registered again.

Repairable write off's (or economic write off's) are sold because (in the eyes of the insurance company) the cost to repair the vehicle is more than the vehicle is worth.

With the 2nd option, only accidents reporting to the police / insurance companies since 2003 ish will be recorded in REVS.
