K&N on Sportivo = Less Lift?

Hi Guys,

I have installed a K&N 57i series induction kit on my Sportivo about 3 months ago. Its not a CAI. Recently, however, i have noticed that Lift doesnt kick in as well as what it had been. Could this be due to the filter sucking in hot air reducing performance?

I am getting a CATBACK system installed next week... will the K&N perform better with the exhaust. I am seriously thinking of putting back the standard airbox on, but i would first like to hear your guys thoughts.

Any comments appreciated!

Cheers...

i have the same problem with my 1zzfe baby lift.... once the cars been driven hard and temps get up the car feels very sluggish i will be building a cold air box soon, just go for cai. the only reason im bothering with the cold air box is cause i like a challenge...

Since we are debating about this SRi topic... hot air which decreases the lift/performance of the car, etc etc...

Would you still choose to stick with SRi (ie: Apexi power intake) vs the sure to work Stock box with a good K&N panel filter.

Any Thoughts??

Well guys...

Last night, i removed the K&N Kit and put the stock airbox back on and... Man it drives so much better i reckon!! It revs so much easier and lift 'seems' to be better.

Im having the car serviced at Toyota on Saturday so hopefully it should run a bit better after that.

With regards to the CAI... In NZ there are hardly any places which stocks parts for these cars. I had the K&N kit imported from the States!!!

I would really like to know where in NZ can i find a decent CAI or maybe even get one from you guys in Aus?

As for now... you guys reckon i should just place a K&N panel filter in there?

Everyone here imports either the TRD, AEM or Injen from the USA too. There are a few exhaust shops in Australia, CES, Liverpool Exhaust and Shift Performance, which have made up a CAI for this application too - basically the same thing but the American ones come in other colours. Nothing really forthcoming from Toyota Japan or Aus though.

There are probably a few better (maybe cheaper?) panel filters you could use, especially the Japanese ones. TRD, Tom's etc. Or ITG make a good one too. But basically that's like spending 30% of the price of a CAI for 5% of the gain. Just hold onto your cash and source a CAI I'd recommend.

Actually, since the past few days has been alot hotter in QLD, I have found that my lift has been next to useless lately too. I wonder if it's just heat issues for you as well? This dramatic loss in lift performance recently has caused me to consider getting the CES CAI...

Gav.

550BUX? wow thats alot for a piece of aluminium and pod

not sure if it fits this corolla but says Twin Charger? what ever that means http://broomfish.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...products_id=606

or cold air intake by simota, again not sure if it fits http://broomfish.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...products_id=735

Is my dry ice idea plausible??

I will give it a go :P

It sure it, you engine will advance ignition timing a slight bit and you'll get some gains from having more available O2. However, the price of setting it up isn't worth the gains.

That whole Venturi argument is basically bogus, you want more overall flow rather than air speed (it's not a carby :P) K&N in your filter box, along with a bit of cold air added to the system should work perfectly.
