Why is the Kluger more popular than the RAV4

Hey Croozer

I agree with you in your post. It's worth noting though that you need to pay a premium for 4x4 on the new model. I think they come in the base model as 2x4 and then you add the 4x4 as an option. Not quite sure, but it says a lot about the target audience (eg not requiring 4x4 really). Its in the same class as the territory.

I bought mine because of the full-time AWD - in canberra it gets freezing and can ice up the roads, along with the fact that we get heaps of rain in autumn and spring, so the AWD option suited me.

I prefer the size of the old model compared to the new model. The new model just seems so big (more like a prado).

Cheers

Matt

Ten years ago I would have bought a Kluger like a shot. Now, however, the kids don't want to go out with the olds any more, and a "family car" is just too big. I'd be pulling the extra weight for nothing 99% of the time.

I have no experience of 4WD vehicles, so I can't really comment on this. However, I have read that the part time AWD isn't bad, and, in any case, when the going gets really sticky you can lock the RAV in full time AWD under 40km/h, can't you?

I'm looking forward to putting this to the test when the RAV finally arrives!

Sandshoe, you can lock it in AWD under 40km/h - it resets to 2wd once you exceed this limit.
