Hey guys,

I've got the stock headunit and speakers in my car right now and I'm thinking of replacing them with a set of basic Pioneer speakers and headunit. I'm just wondering if I'll need an amplifier as well? And usually how much does installation cost?

Cheers

Hi. as long as your new headunit got MOSFET build-in amp, there is no problems to run the speakers by the headunit.

If you dont install amp, the installation labour would be quite simple, (take old headunit out, connect harness, put new one in, take old speakers out, put new one in)

I would say 1hr to 1.5 hr labour would be sufficient.

Maybe you can DIY it. not as difficult as you think.

Yeah the one I'm thinking about buying has MOSFET.

I've installed a tacho before, is this any harder lol?

it would be easier.

The ONLY problem is to figure out the harness pins but i think you would be able to search out it.

Good luck and have fun.

Well that's good to know! I shall attempt with a mate on Saturday.

Thanks guys!

Get yourself a test light and a speaker popper (ie. two AA batteries with flying leads coming off them). That will cover 99% of headunit installs (especially Japanese cars).

Ok guys, I got the headunit installed but the speakers are too big to fit in the existing speaker hole. The Celica spakers are on the dash area, next to the glovebox and steering column, so I can't even cut it to make it fit. Is there another way to fit them?
