Running-in

Hi guys

Manual mentions something about not racing the car for first 300 km's or so.

Is this the same as a running in period?

I'm kinda hanging to take the car on the freeway :P

Cheers

Foley

theres no problem taking it out on the freeway, just keep it steady for those 300 km give things time to settle in, then redline it !

Take it for a gentle drive, allowing the engine to rev and wain and the box to work up and down. No need to hurry.

Get the engine and the oil good and warm. Then give it some herbs to higher rpm, on the on ramp to the freeway. Freeway speeds will not concern a new motor. High rpm on a cold new motor might.

Remember, on the assembly line the engine gets high rpm.

Read here. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

You will hear conflicting opinion. Everyone has their own belief. My experience, fwiw, is via contrasting methods used by friends . One took the slow careful method. His oil consumption was high until 20000ks. The other has not used a drop, using the mototuneusa technique.

Read, listen, make your own choice.

i still remember what my dealer said to me when i bought my trd and was about to drive away...

he said "dont baby it, but dont thrash it either. if an ss commodore wants to race at a set of lights, feel free to race him and put him in his place. but then take it easy on the car for a few kms."

 i was laughing my ***** off...

Remember, on the assembly line the engine gets high rpm.

I visited a Toyota Engine assembly plant yesterday and saw every engine being run on the dyno (idle for a number of minutes to check for noises, then near max. RPM for an equal number of minutes). Not sure of the exact load pattern, but it would all be standard toyota practice.
