Just uploaded the pics of my normal LOW 35w HID beam and HI 55w HID beam, between my position to end of the deadend is about 250m plus and i did not adjust my high beam angle...

my camera is a shonky Panasonic Lumix with exposure set to '0'

fog lights was also turned off to not distract the whiteness of the beams, this should give you a better idea how bright the 55w HID...

cheers

Yup... 55W HID high beams win hands down.

O'k, I fitted the 65W +80% Philips Halogen. Wasn't the easiest job, as there isn't a lot of room for big hands, especially the right hand light, the bloody windscreen washer bottle is right behind, where you want to get your spanner into.

Anyway there is a definite improvement over the standard halogens, but there is still that yellow light over the low beam HID's and just isn't bright enough, so I guess I will have to fit the 55W Hid's in the next few weeks, probably go with the 6000K.

I found a mob in Sydney that can supply me a kit for $199.60, I know, I Know......I can get cheaper on the Internet, but being a novice I would probably buy the wrong ones. At least the bloke in Sydney knows exactly what I want, except that he tells me it's not illegal to fit HID's to your high beams, only illegal if you fit HID's to low beams, that didn't come as a standard fitment (OEM).

Quote: Our Professional Grade kits come with a 2yr Warranty , have the latest advanced technology, are suitable for complex computer control systems (Can-Bus, EMC), as well as older vehicles.

I would recommend our HB3 (9005) D-50w for your high beam.

The 50w Digital HID Conversion Kit will give you 500% More Light than a standard 55w halogen bulb and last 10 times as long (equivalent to +250%).

The bulbs come out of the Philips Light Source parts manufacturer, and the ballasts have USA made Digital CMOS Chips, German Siemens Parts, and Japanese parts (such as resistors and capacitors).

The 50w kits will cost $188.30+$11.30 Overnight Freight Express Australia Wide - (Total $199.60)

I would recommend 6000k as they come stock on the BMW and Mercedes etc… They are a white light, but have a blue tinge. The 6000k confirm with ADR.

The ADR rule is for a “passing beam” or low beam. High beam is ok. The main worry is for passing vehicles who get blinded by too much light. High beam is ok (unless you forget to switch it off when you go past someone).

Also again….Low beam is the issue, not high beam, it would not affect your warranty unless it did something wrong to the electrical system, which it cannot as they have built in circuit protection, and after selling over two thousand sets I would know.

Just make sure it is a HB3 (9005), It should tell you in your manual, or you can just read it off the bulb that is in the vehicle.

So I must admit, I am a little confused on the legalities. ......but the 55W HID's as advised, seems to be the way to go. ;)

Regards.................Dixie.

FYI

4300k or 5000k gives you the maximum lumen which equals to maximum throw for your hi-beams...

OEM hids (BMW, Mercs, Toyota etc.) are around 4300-5000k. is the seller an ebay seller?

I just laugh at all the promotional crap about parts inside the brilliant digital ballast being made in Germany, Japan, etc. Anything they can throw in to make it appealing. They could probably say it has a flux capacitor in it and some people would be none the wiser

Anyways dixie, stop panicking about the legalities of it all. They are your high beams so the chance of a cop seeing it is fairly low. Plus anyways, they probably wouldn't realise that it's not an ARD approved lighting component and therefore won't issue a defect notice for it.

Off-track: Removing the high beams is easy. I don't see how you could need a spanner for it.

pfft... majority of all things in the world are Made in China anyway...

all my upgrade bits are from China and are not inferior except maybe the feel good factor? :P

you could spend couple of hundreds more on a euro or jap made kits but chances are there will be chinese made components in it... :)

Thanks guys, no the company isn't an ebay seller, but I found him on the internet.

O'k speedz, chicken or DJKOR, could you point me in the right direction for an ebay purchase, regarding a HID kit to suit my Presara? I'm a 62 year old, so I'm not out to impress my mates etc, just give me a nice bright highbeam with a good distance throw. Do you recommend the 4300k or the 5000k and in what wattage 35 or 55?

If you would prefer to contact me outside the Forum, you'll get me at dixnrel@gmail.com.

For DJKOR: Mate, I don't know about the older model, but the upgrade has a hard plastic cover over the rear of the headlight assembly, which you have to move to get at the globes. It's held by a large spring clip one side and two screw/bolts at the other end. The trouble is you can't get a philips head in because of the windscreen water bottle, which is right at the back of the headlight. The lefthand side is better, but you still have to move the battery out of you way, to get at the screws. The easiest way to get them apart was with a small spanner and barked knuckles  Not a hard job to do, but hard to get at.

Regards and Thanks................Dixie. :)

Because you are going for a high beam, you should go all out and get a 50/55 watt kit. I would recommend the 4,300k as it will give you the brightest light and best range. There is no seller in particular for this kit that I'd recommend. You basically just make your own judgement based on their ratings etc. For example, this one looks to be a good one to go for:

HID Xenon KIT h10 9145 9004 HB1 HB2 HB3 HB4 H13 50w/55w

Does the back of your highbeam look like this? I took these three photos in the span of 30 seconds. I'm not saying that everyone can remove it quickly, but I'm saying that you shouldn't have to use tools just to remove your headlight bulbs. If you needed to use a spanner to remove your high beam, this would be a step back in design for Toyota because you can easily access the headlights without tools on the pre-facelift. This would also be the first case of me hearing about needing tools to change your headlights in any modern car.

No mate, the rear of my headlights are nothing like yours, if they were, it would be a breeze to change globes. As I stated, the rear of my lights, have a hard plastic sealing cover, with a large spring clip on one end and two small (about 10mm) bolts, with a philips head top, so you can use either a screwdriver, or a 10mm spanner, to remove them.

Cow of a design and bloody difficult to get good access to.

Thanks for the ebay tip and hopefully I won't need to bug you, about this subject again

Speaking of which, this headlight thing has really got me puzzled. When I get the chance, I'm going to head back to the dealer and have a look at another facelift Aurion. It just doesn't seem right to me that you would need tool to change the headlights. Not that I don't entirely believe unique, it's just I can't visualise what it looks like without seeing it myself.

I'll take my camera.

O'k, I have managed to take a couple of snaps of the rear of my headlights. Two of the right one and two of the left.

You can clearly see the spring clip and the two bolt/screws, on the left hand one.

Guys..haven't had a chance to look any of this up, but wouldn't the Presara headlight assembly be different due to the fact that it has factory HIDs installed???

My 20c worth...

It would also be interesting to see what the back of the pre-facelift Presara headlamps look like if someone can post pics. I believe the ballasts are mounted on the underside of the headlamp assembly.

You have a really valid point. How did I miss the fact that dixie had a Presara. Guess I wasn't paying attention to the sidebar... and the first post for that matter.

I would get the feeling that the pre-facelift may actually be the same. This is something I will have to have a look at.

seems like dixie really needs a spanner to take off the bumper and headlight housing tp install the HIDs...

Thought I would post up the the couple of photos I took in an attempt to compare low/high beam. When out on the interstate, you can really see the difference between the low and high beams. In person, the effects are more clear but with the camera I have, I tried to compare it.

I've never really had issues with the stock high beams. I have always found them to be great.

My low beams are 35W 8000k HID's and my high beams are the stock 65W Toshiba HIR1 bulbs. Ignore the high ISO graininess. Only way to capture it with my camera. Relatively close to real life, just that the low beams actually are a little dimmer than what it looks like in the photo. The side markers give a good indication of distance throw:
