I am thinking of painting my Fog Light Surrounds.

Yay or Nay??

I have a spare set, so there is no risk... If it looks stupid they will go in the bin.

My intention is to colour code them then gloss them my self. I want to keep the "chrome" part as is.

Also keeping in mind I will have a Lexus grill on my baby soon.

I'm a nay on that one. I reckon it will remove the separation that the black of the fog light surround creates.

But if you have a second set, I guess there is no harm in trying.

Cheers.

I'm still undecided!

mate, if you have the chrome lexus style grill it will suit your painted fog light surrounds perfectly.

I think the grill will help make the difference...just my opinion

Yay for me.. Reckon it'll look nice. If not, toss it out.. Easy. U gonna DIY? Lemme know when, i mite drop by and see how it turns out.

Well I bought the stuff for it and took off the OEM covers to be prep'd. I'm rockin' the non OEM surrounds now which at face value you cant tell they are different until you look real close at the imperfections.

  • Primer
  • Colour coded paint
  • Gloss
  • 200 Wet/Dry Sand Paper

It'll be a long process:

  • Clean
  • Sand
  • Prime x 2
  • Paint x 3
  • Gloss x 2
  • Fit

And I cant start priming/painting until I get a clear sky and get over this **** flu.

Already have and loved it! Then I scratched the crap out of two of them on a drive way so I took them off. I seriously dont understand how I managed to scratch them!!

If I have primer and paint left over I will touch them up and put them back on. Right now, I have them sitting in the rain to clean them .

Here they are.

Over all I will say I am very pleased with the results. They arnt a perfect match and they arnt perfectly smooth but they do the job.

I couldnt be bothered polishing them back to make them smooth.

p.s. dont mind the dirty car! it needs some love and attention.... sooner or later.

Now I'm contemplating painting the bottom grill plastic and possibly removing the black mesh from behind it.
