OK guys what do you reckon is the best polish to use.......how often do you polish, and any special techniques.

A mate reckons the uk Auto-glym brand is the best...but being a pommy brand I'm wondering if it'd give good UV protection here on Oz....??

Any advice'd be appreciated..

Meguair ........... is the best.

I just washed and waxed my car. It looks better than like new now :)

I usually wash every 2 weeks, but because of the water restriction in NSW atm...i wash like every month. I also try to wax every month.

i use eagle one wet look. i find that waxing it every 3 months is enuf. i wash it when ever i see a nice bit of waether coming. its been a while now tho(in melb) so i havnt washed it in like 1.5 months.

I 2nd SRR Meguair's is the best products to use hands down :D

Wash once a week. Cut and or polish once every two months.

remember that owners with paint protection DO NOT polish their cars

What's the rational behind not polishing cars that do not have paint protection? Is this an urban myth or is it for real?

Well paint Protection is sort of like the teflon coating on your frying pan. Makes it real easy to 'wipe' clean but if you scratch it off with a knife and damage the teflon coating then food will stick to the surface easily and make it harder to clean.

When you use a cutting agent and some polish's they actually have a very fine sand like material in it which actually takes a fine layer of coating off, hence making it look really nice and shiny

So thats why they recommend that you dont polish cars with paint protection on it and just give it a good wash with lots of water and a soft sponge/cloth with soap

I was being cheap and didn't want the paint protection by Toyota, but now am reconsidering it. I should be able to get paint protection at any panel beater right?

Is there anywhere that someone could recommend me to go that's cheaper than Toyota? I'm located in Melbourne.

I don't think Paint Protection is available at Panel Beaters...

Maybe you can buy the bottles from toyota and apply it yourself to save some money...

It goes on the same as polish... Do it undercover, cover the entire car with Paint Protection and leave for 40 mins, then take it all off in the same swirl pattern as you polish a car...

Definately Meguiars is the best. I use Step 1, Step 2 Step 3 every 3 months, but I use Meguiars Colour Boost every month to keep her looking good. Never use a buffer on it, and when polishing it apply the polish in a circular motion and buff off from side to side ( left to right ) That will prevent swirl marks and is easier!!! Jason

What: Meguiars Wet Look.

How Often:When I can Be ****d

How Applied: One Section at a time. Let go to a haze then buff off with a second clean cloth/terrry towel. Then rewash car to ensure no more residue left.

I just got some meguiars car wash, new age something it's called, seems alright. Smells nice too! :D

Renee's (G/F) father uses autoglym from memory.

Being a professional car detailer I have seen a lot of so called "wonder" products that retailers have tried to get me to use then recommend. I was a big advocate for Meguiars for years but recently their products have taken a dive in the quality department. Bowden's Car Care products recently gave me about $100 worth of their products for me to use then give them some relative feed back. Bowden's have the largest privately owned collection of rare and collectable cars in Australia and infact probably the world. They designed the products to use on their collection which includes a genuine AC cobra, rare Porsches, GTHo's and the like.

Being a Meguiars man i didn't think there could be something on the market as good for roughly the same price. But bowdens products are simply awesome to use and you achieve a fantastic result. Northy uses them on his Ascent sports and he can really make black look better than black!!! If you want to know more then check out their website:

:D Being a pommy and living in 'pommy land' I find Auto-Glym best. many years ago I used Mer but when it went more commercialised it didn't appear to be so good.

Have to agree about UV protection though, never have that problem in our damp and dull climate.
