Tried to put my new 17's on today, they fit great, but.

Only problem is the wheel studs come about 1/4 through and just stop.

Looked in the bag of nuts and they aren't lug nuts, they're lug bolts.

Chatting with my mechanic and his advice was to sell them

But thought I'd just try here first to see if anyone had any ideas?

Obviously lengthening the studs comes to mind, but the gap to even put the nut on doesn't look like it would work & even if it did wouldn't be able to put a tool around it to tighten that for sure. Unless I get a hex lug nut? if that even exists...

Am I screwed? Please offer up your advice :)

yes, you are "screwed"

excuse the bad pun, just by D1 nuts or something they're about $50, or so,

other than that i got no idea :X

Just checking out D1 nuts, they pretty much have a hex head to do them up?

Only problem is that the wheel studs don't protrude that far from the wheel, which would lead to an inferior fit.

Does anyone have a spare hex head lug (D1) I could try out that could send me? :)

you can get the hex nuts from supercheap/autobarn type places, i paid $1.50ea

and also extended studs for around $4-6ea

unless ur after the ultralight weight wheel nuts :whistling:

why are they like that? is there a spacer attached to the wheel? the centre hole large enough for the hub?

Any pics of the back of the rim? those nuts are euro fitment, Golf's have that style

Posted

Yeah as Jeffy said mate it dosen't look good :( John mentioned that there euro fitment and i tend to agree, similar setup as my old Peugeot 306.

Yeah guys they are definitely euro wheels

Which is why hardly any stud shows through,

The wheels are used to having a lug bolt not a lug nut.

Only thing I can think of...

Is is possible to extend my studs?

Or is it just not worthwhile

Did a search and not much came up

you need to buy and install longer wheel studs, there's not enough thread poking through to secure the wheel with the current studs on those wheels. Best to sell the wheels and buy some that fit correctly.

Very curious to know what vehicle they are from, being a BSA rim most are for common fitments, fit or not there should be more stud poking through

Is installing longer wheel studs even worth my effort?

I was really happy with the wheels until i realized this stupid mistake

New hubcentric wheel spacers got me thinking, with long studs, but they'd be probably $300 for the set.

Apparently they were from a Barina juvenile, but being BSA I thought they would fit too, but nope, hardly any wheel stud poking through.

Which I'm assuming uses bolts instead of nuts.

Got a mate over today who knows a fair bit about cars.

He pointed out that the rims are tapered inside, and that there was plenty of stud there it just didn't look like it.

An hour later, $40, I have 16 new tapered wheel studs that are hex head.

FINGERS CROSSED TOMORROW

You guys will be the first to know
