I bought the same catch(in black), the packaging is ridiculous! However, quality is extraordinary!

haha yeah that's a fact. Packaging is over the top for sure. But I was so impressed with the quality and detail of finish. I know I could probably save $100 to get my fabricator to make one up, but this saves me painting it, and it's flawless in finish quality.

manifold is done. will get it next week and take photos. And for all those tomei turbo runners out there with a j-pipe delete, these guys have now made a jig and can/will make more. When I post up pics - if you like you can get in touch with them. Pricing - I don't know. Obviously I would have paid more initially being the first.

soooo. Heres the latest with the fab work. Air intake now has a solid breather pipe and fabbed up really really well. The box around the filter will be made and installed tomorrow.

Catch can is now mounted. Neat, tidy and tucked away nicely. In the pic below you can see it mounted at the top using the supplied mount from Mishimoto but we also made another mount to pickup the bottom and installed that also. The last pic below shows the black braided hoses running under the drivers side headlight - neatly tucked away.

And finally... a bit of **** factor but I think these turned out very very nicely. I tossed up whether or not to paint the cam covers and thought nah. I want more carbon!!! Wont look overdone in the engine bay though. All the fab work will be black to match factory fuse boxes/plastics etc etc. Orange rocker covers and silicone hoses. Should look a treat when installed and fab work is all painted.

some pics of the cam covers re-installed, air filter box and the catch can finished off. Fabricator ran out of dome bolts for the top - ill replace them. cant wait to fit the new exhaust mani next week. Engine bay needs a tidy up and some paint on the fab work. but im not fussed right now. cant afford it lol

okay so time to let the cat out of the bag. New manifold pics below. 6boost manifold ftw! Initially it wasn't going to be a 6boost manifold. But my exhaust bloke couldn't access the right flanges and he rang Kyle at 6boost to see if he would send some down, and Kyle offered to do the lot (and it only cost me $200 more than the exhaust guy was gunna charge). So ofcourse I didn't say no. Originally planned this about 4 weeks ago and kyle started working on it 2 weeks ago.

He has made a jig - and providing mine fits with no issues next week, ill let Kyle know and he will be able to make more at your request! In terms of price, I don't know. Mine was obviously going to cost a little more due to it being a first one. But there is now a very high quality aftermarket manifold available domestically to suit standard mount with J Pipe delete - so I think all in all, that's a success for the JZX world!

What can I say... Im so impressed. Quality, design, finish, flawless. He did use 32mm runners (sorry @Indeliable). Basically, he did offer to re-do it in 25mm runners but said it would be another 3 week wait and I had my tune lined up and I bit the bullet and said no. So I may lose a little spool response but minor at best, and really the design may overcome that too. Either way, this will be a very very very huge improvement to performance, flow and engine bay appearance.

alrighty... Manifold installed. ****ty iphone late night pictures so bare with me on that...

okay where to start. Manifold bolted in perfectly. Mounted perfectly. However I had to replace the hot side piping to the turbo because it ever so slightly hit one of the runners. Exhaust guy made it out of mild steel and put a new silicone reducer on. Not sure if I prefer this look or the reducing welds in the aluminium pipe previously. So there is a little clearance now. also there is a water/heater line at the back of the engine bay that has been temporarily cable tied otherwise it would be in contact with the manifold and wont be good with the heat. Eventually when I install a new radiator and new top and bottom hoses - I can flush the system and modify this water line so that it wont run anywhere near the manifold. Threw some heat tape over it for now. The throttle cable sits pretty clear of the manifold but im going to get some heatwrap shield sleeve to throw over the top just to be sure. Don't wanna track it without that.

Now... first drive. I didn't really give it much as it needs a re-tune, but it definitely feels like its spooling later. Hard to say where full boost is. The manifold also appears to have made the exhaust a lot quieter... weird. Lastly, I can already feel a lot more power there. I didn't take it all the way in the rev range, but previously I was experiencing a loss in traction around 6000rpm depending on the incline of the road ofcourse. Now it seems im experiencing a little traction issue between 5-5500rpm. That might just be me exaggerating im not sure.

All I can say is im looking forward to the final tune and see where full boost lands and how the traction will be after. Good news for me is that my ECU has a motorsport traction feature in it where the ECU will rear the g-force sensors from the traction control unit and compare to the speed sensors in the ecu. It will then adjust and apply some traction control to stabilize it somewhat. This feature is currently being developed and written by the tuner and looks to be about 3 months away. Then ill basically need a couple of track days to fine tweak it and get it as right as we can. In theory, it should help with traction ALOT - and that's before I even think about semi's/bigger rubber.

See how we go on Monday with the tune. This time - yes there will be videos too!

Alrighty. Update from the re-tune today. Well... final re-tweak.

Manifold flows a hell of a lot better. Infact, too good for its own good. Im back to the same problem - struggling for fuel pressure. The pump is flowing no problems but we just cant get the fuel pressure up at higher boost. The tomei snail and the engine both want to keep going up, but we just cant feed enough fuel into it. So if I wanted to take it further, I would be looking at an A1000 external pump and 5L surge tank fitted to the rear passenger side next to the spare tyre drum. Upgrading some fuel lines with that too. But that's a long way away. I need to start learning how the car will go around the track with what I have now - theres a ****eload of power that's going to be a handful as it is. Tuner believes this tomei and my setup could comfortably go to 30psi. If that was the case, he said we are looking at 400rwkw +. He is quite interested in doing that - but then again, that's also a sales pitch to me so that he gets more of my money.

Basically, we made more power on slightly less boost. We could certainly get more boost - but tuner didn't want to run out of fuel pressure higher up the boost curve and you can see in the below boost graph at about 5700rpm - he's tuned it with a slight drop in boost.

Figure we tuned it at was 356rwkw/477rwhp @ 24psi with about 603nm torque. It made a little more on a few other runs, but 356rwkw ended up being the magic number. I am happy with the result. This is more than enough than I'll need and I know it's got a lot more. Tuner would like to take it to 30psi... maybe one day.

In regards to the 6boost mani - I urge one of you out there to order the same one with 25mm runners. I think youll have a slightly greater response as we couldn't really get any of that back with the tune. I am a little disappointed with that - but that was my call to stick with the already made manifold. As you can see from the below dyno videos - the car is still reasonably quiet and especially under full throttle (that manifold has made full throttle a lot quieter). All in all - the manifold will allow for a lot more flow.

At the end of the day, it's good to know for most of you guys out there with stock internals that you can run this setup with the tomei, e85 and 6boost mani and make around 350rwkw @ 21-24psi.

First track day is booked! time to throw it around and see what needs to be done! Tyres, brakes and minor suspension mods is next on the list!

So this is where the other TSI JZX110 ended up going?? Good to see its getting a good amount of love Cam. On your first page the nose of the white 110 there is my baby, like your's considerably different compared to when TSI had it.

Keep up the good work

been a while since an update. a whole heap of stuff has happened tune wise and manifold wise - 6boost are making another. the testing continues...

meanwhile ive been busy elsewhere. I need semis for the track, so pulled off the volk's and ill get some semis fitted on them. finally got around to rolling the guards today and fitting the SSR's. rears are perfect. heaps of clearance. fronts lightly scrub only under hard cornering and off camber - otherwise can comfortably drive around with zero scrubbage. However it needs to go lower too. Wheel alignment will be tweaked anyway before next track day so thinking of running a little more negative camber on the front and dropping it 3/4 inch.

stoked with how they look. pics don't do justice.

cant afford to upgrade brake kit all around yet... so in the mean time, I got myself some DBA T3 4000 slotted rotors front and rear. Got some QFM A1RM pads for the front and QFM HPX pads for the rears. Ive also got some APP braided brake lines to throw in. And going to throw in some new Protex super dot 4 brake fluid. While I have everything apart im gunna clean up the calipers and paint them myself as well. ill go pickup the paint tomorrow hopefully. Ill fit the brakes myself in a couple of weeks.

so I painted my calipers over the weekend and removed all the brake rotors. Ill chuck in the new DBA rotors, pads, fluid and braided lines tomorrow.

Pretty happy with how the calipers turned out. Gave them a good clean and scrub with Brakleen first. 3 coats of VHT primer, 3 coats of colour and 3 coats of VHT clear. Baked them in front of 2 hot heaters for about 6 hours after. See how they really hold up come track day...

brakes done. no dramas. New fluid and braided lines fitted also.

Pictures are pretty blurry - iphone late afternoon. I put some **** factor/50kw extra TRD decals on and clear coated over them. Reason being is when I eventually upgrade calipers, im gunna put the TRD decals on them so I was testing this out to see how it handles longevity wise. I don't think it will be much good - because the surface is rough texture not smooth so they didn't stick the best before clear coat.

Nearly ready for the next track day at the end of the month. Next up - toyo Proxes R888's to be fitted to my standard Volk GTP's ready for track.

Last but not least, some considerable dyno time and some experiments with manifolds. 6Boost has made a new manifold with 25mm runners for me and are sending it down. I am going to re-fit my standard manifold to get a base tune setup again. Then fit the 25mm runner manifold and get a full tune again. Really looking to reel in some more response again. Im asking my tuner to also spending some time retarding the timing if need be - as the overall figure is not my goal, the driveability is much more important. Basically, I want this running perfectly to suit the current setup. I wont stop until this setup is right. I want to at least really enjoy the track days rather than the last one which I did not.

Hopefully this all gets sorted and I can really enjoy the car for an extended period. and then........ maybe.... save for a whole new hi-mount setup? haha

Minor suspension mods still to be done, diff bushes to be replaced. Oil cooler to be fitted.

Looks fkn excellent :)

What are those rims you have on? I know you've said but buggered if I can find it

Posted

cheers mate.

they are SSR Executors CV01's.

Specs:

Fronts - 19x9.5 +18

Rears - 19x9.5 +38.

Rears are absolutely a perfect fit for the car. Fronts are a little aggressive. I think with the same offset of +38 on the front, it would be perfect. Fronts will only scrub if I am at full lock, or turn into a corner with aggression and speed. Bought these as street rims anyway so im pretty happy with the outcome.

Posted

haha cheers mate. I was pretty happy with the result. they will never look this clean again - I should get some better photos lol.

im obviously not one for colour matching. green, blue, orange, black and soon to have gold suspension parts there too haha.

Not trying to be smart, but have you thought about getting good sport tyres for your GT-P's instead of going straight to an R-compound tyre? I'm assuming you may have done one or two track days but if you haven't then exploring the upper limits of grip for an R compound would mean you'd have to be pushing quite hard to get them to squeal/lose grip pending the conditions of the day ect. I've attended track days where guys on sports tyres have been noticeably quicker than others on semi slicks as road tyres can offer a greater feedback to learning lines and technique before going straight to outright grip. Just my 2c
