Driver door key lock stuck 2002 Model

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

My Mrs has a 2002 Corolla four door sedan.

It does not have keyless entry.

The key will no longer turn in the driver's door to unlock. We can lock the car with the key and the central locking works, but when we try to unlock the driver door the key will not turn.

We have to unlock the passenger door with the key and lean over to the button on the interior drivers door. The central locking does not work either from the passenger door keylock or the button on the driver's door (not sure if it should, never checked before).

I'm not sure if it's the keylock at fault or the central locking switch stuck.

I would like to have the correct part ready to go before removing the door skin so I only have to do it once.

Anyone have a similar problem or know which part would be at fault?

Thanks for reading

G'day again all,

Just dug out the spare key and it works with a bit of a jiggle.

So now I know it's the door lock.

I'll start looking around for a new set of key locks.

Sorry for wasting your time and answering my own question.

Keep up the good work all, and thanks for reading.

Probably not the locks it will be a worn key, get a new key cut to code and this normally fixes the issue. You key has a transponder chip in the key head and this will need to be cut out and moved to the new key.

The central locking won't work from the passenger door only the drivers and the button in the car. On these I think that there is a plastic switch that clips on the back of the drivers door lock that drives the central locking. If it isn't working from the switch inside the car check all your fuses.
