I've hit 52,000kms..

Tyres still have some life on them though...

What's the widest tyre you can throw onto 6"?

195mm :)

So that means you cant throw a 205/50/R16 or 205/55/R16 on the the sportivo rims???

Then what are those guys at the beginning of the post talking about then? Im confused. :o

SuiCid3 was asking width for 6" rim. Putting 205's on 6" rim will be pushing it.

Of course you can throw 205/50/16 or 205/55/16 on Sportivo rim Nek. They are the ideal size.

i thought the sportivo rims were 16x6?

Doesnt that mean its 6" too? Or have a confused the crap outta myself?

You've got a 1ZZ BigBum..

Can you confirm that the stockies on them are 6"?

i thought the stock toyota rims where 15x6JJ and the sportivo ones where 16x6JJ

Yeah, that's what I read from one of the search results in this forum.

15/60/r15, 4x114, +40 offset are the stocks from what I read...

stock sportivo tyres are 195/55/r16 with 4x100 pcd and +45 offset

stock 1ZZ tyres are 195/60/r15 with 4x100 pcd and +45 offset

the stud pattern is 4x100 ;)

many people have put 205/50r16s onto the stock rims, they fit but are not ideal.

Yep, deffinately 6" for 1zz 15" alloys.

Correct. They're both 6" wide. So 205mm would be the widest tyre you can throw onto them without any hanging over. My bad :D

Oh... so 4x100 for the 1ZZ stocks as well?

Correct. They're both 6" wide. So 215mm would be the widest tyre you can throw onto them without any hanging over. My bad :D

*phew*

Got me worried there for a while... :D

What do you mean they are not ideal?

ie. the diameter of the tyres are out whichever profile you pick?

yep... been 4x100 on corollas since the AE82

the width is not idea 6.5" width rim is ideal for 205mm tread face

the rule is the rim width plus 2. so given that the normal corollas and the sportivo factory rim is 6" applying the rule gives you 8". convert 8" into millimetres as you know tyre sizes are referred to in mm.

8 x 25.4 = 203.2

therefore 205 is too big. but given that it is 1.8mm difference you could get away with fitting a 205 tyres onto the 6" width rim

Every tyre manufacturer specifies a range of applicable rim widths for each size of each tyre they make, so as long as a 6" rim fits in that range for the tyre you're considering, then you're ok (assuming they are legal in your state and will actually fit your car, of course).

A good example was some tyres I had on my old Starlet ... I was told by more than one tyre dealer that Yokohama S306 185/60R13 tyres were too wide for the 5" rims, but Yokohama listed 5" as the minimum of their range for that tyre ... as it happened, they were an excellent tyre and I only traded them in after 50,000-odd kms because I was given some 14" alloys.

I think it helps to do a bit of research over the net before you see the tyre dealer. :)

As i've said before switching from the stock 15*6 195/60/15 to 16*7 205/50/16 made a huge difference in handling, so if you can get away with using 205 tyres on the standard rims then go for it.

I also noticed the original post is about 2 years old :P
