Hmmmm, I am not even sure if I did push it hard or not. Mystery.

Well, i guess its the rich air/fuel down low that causes this.

A long drive to Sydney gives your car a healthy exercise.

But not good for the driver especially when he/she is driving alone.

Anyway back to original question, I don't think resetting ecu saves you fuels. Besides, you are taking more air in, so it needs more fuel. Awesome.

fair enough danz.. i dun see how other ppls r average 600-750... they must be driving 1st gear straight to 5th lol

What's the formulae for litres per 100klms???

I've put in 20 litres, and I got 260klms before the light went on.

Is that 9.5l/100klms???

Well, you might be able to. The car can make 600km per tank if I wanted to, but can;t help my heavy right foot Soon as you reach the speed limit, use your final gear.

Divide the number of litres by the number of kilometers and then multiply by 100.

So, If you've used 40litres, and travelled 550km's

40/550 = .073

.073 x 100 = 7.3L/100KM

The most accurate way of working out how many litres you use is to fill the tank completely. And then on the next fill up see how many litres you put in to fill it again (remembering your 1zz has a 55 litre tank)

This is quite an interesting read from you all! I have been monitoring my corolla Conquest (1zz). I can normally do about 8L/100km. if you worked it out it is about 560km per tank (assuming that there is 10L left when the low fuel light lits).

the worse in city driving is 9L/100km. (500KM per tank)

the best highway (mostly highway) driving is 7.6L/100km. (590KM per tank)

I'll try the 4th gear till 75km/h trick and see if it is an improvement. coz I even drove at 5th gear on 45km/h. hehe...

Condition of the engine, the type of engine oil (mineral vs Synthetic), the type of petrol (reg unleaded vs premium), modifications to the car (eg. wheel size, intake/exhaust, ecu tuning) etc etc all play a part in fuel consumption so if you have a good engine, use full syntetic engine oil and use premium fuel and service your car regularly, and has no mods and still getting very low mileage something is wrong. I would have thought 1zzs are more fuel efficient compared to 2zzs.. even my Stivo with some hard driving can come ou with about 550kms minimum, usually normal driving with a few LIFT sessions here and there i can get 650kms average, but i spend most of my driving on the freeway though in 6th gear.

Well that's why you get high milage - spending most of your time driving on freeway on 6th gear

I did about 530km with 51.5L of petrol so that's about 620km full tank. I reckon that's pretty good considering that a Corolla Sportivo is a pretty powerful car. Although I wouldn't mind better fuel economy if anyone's got any idea of how that's achievable, since petrol prices are going through the roof.

Our cars run very rich when we hit lift. Don't hit lift and you won't use as much fuel. Lol. The quicker are car generally the more fuel it uses. I'm already used to this with my other car (Ford Escort, running twin 45mm weber carburettors). That thing drinks petrol like no tomorrow lol.
