Lowering 2016 Sportivo

Hi All

I'm looking at lowering my 2016 Aurion Sportivo. Has anyone else gone through this process? All I can find is low king springs but seeing as they're for GSV50 in general and the Sportivo is already factory lowered I'm not sure if they would have any effect at all. Any insight or help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael and welcome to the forum. The Sportivo appears to have the same ride height as the ATX and Presara of 145mm. Despite the ATX and Presara sharing the same rolling diameter of their wheel/tyre combo, the Sportivo, although having the 45 series tyre on an 18 inch wheel would most likely put it's tyre height at a very similar height and hence having the same ride height as the other two.

Despite this, Toyota definitely stiffened the springs on the Sportivo but in terms of it being lower than standard, it actually isn't.

I found this listing for King Springs and the three lowered spring options are "low" 30mm,  "Super Low" 40-50mm and "Ultra Low"  70mm.

You could also contact a suspension specialist and see what they know about the Sportivo in particular, but I'd put money on it that he'd tell you the same thing.

Hi Michael, when first purchasing our Presara I looked into lowering it and did a lot of asking specialists and online searches as well..in the end the final decision was made by driving it..seeing how many speed humps and obstacles there are on our roads in our suburbs and shopping centres and decided it was low enough already..as I would rather see a small gap in the wheel well than having to dodge or swerve around speed humps to avoid the bottoming out scrape as the car hits something

If your determined to go ahead I would really really do your research and then decide

Tony's links do give an insight into what is available and I am sure others will throw their advise in as well on this subject

I had a good read of Tony’s reply.

Interesting that the earlier 40 series Aurions have a lower ground clearance of 105mm vs 145mm for the later 50 series. Certainly explains why I have thought that my car was low enough and already have enough scape marks underneath from [foolishly] parking with front wheels resting against raised concrete edging at a local tavern.

No experience in lowering vehicles but I am mindful of keeping the vehicle road legal and not affecting the insurance cover.

In QLD, minimum ground clearance is 100mm [125mm is approx.. height of a soft drink can].

Can I suggest that the best upgrade for your vehicle is a decent set of tyres suitable for your driving style.

Excellent advice guys.

If I HAD to lower a 50 series, I wouldn't go any less than 30mm to be honest, even then you will still have to be ultra careful of kerbing etc. The factory specified height is set for an overall mix of ride, comfort and to a degree handling, but also important to be able to clear the kerbs when parking nose in or tail in. The over hang needs clearance too.

@mgh87 the GSV50R Sportivo already has a brittle ride & you want to go even harder? I would seriously consider coilovers so you can adjust the dampers to your liking. Not sure there's much available for the Aurion/Camry though. Looks like Tein might have something as would BC. Would talk to a reputable suspension shop for advice, not cheap.

Suspension is a tricky thing to get right. You can spend thousands and still not get the feel you want. It's too much of a head ***k for me. I prefer it standard to be honest. It's just right the way it is. 

The only upgrade I would make is stiffer sway bars, that's all I think it could benefit from.

A suspension mob I know of here in Melbourne who are used to tuning racecars once told me they can make just about anything handle real sweetly, depends on how much $$ you wana through at it ;)

Yep. Money does talk. Depends how much you want to chase. I think an elaborate suspension set up for the street isn't really money well spent. If you were doing club racing, then that's a different story.
