Hi All, I have had two Corolla Twincam 16 models. Have done over 400,000km of driving in both over the years since 1987 when they were both used as daily drivers.  Rebuilt one 4AGE motor in the 1986 Seca (now sold). Replaced the 4AGE motor in my current 1988 Hatch with a low mileage jap import.  Hatch has been garaged for last 10 years or so with only periodic country road drives. Soon to be on "club" plates  (Special Interest) plates here in Tassie. Resprayed more than a decade ago, I am in process of revising the restoration and adding some needed performance modifications.

Hi Robert and welcome to the forum. That Corolla was around when I was still in high school and remember it very well. I was in year 10 in '87 and I believe the AE80 came about in '83 or '84. 

A classmate of mine's parents had just purchased a brand new AE82 with the 1.6lt and he would sneak out during the night with it, come pick us up and go joyriding :laugh: 
He even let me have a drive. First time I drove a front wheel drive car. It felt really nice to drive as I recall and very smooth too. Engine was adequate, nothing crazy but it motored along pretty well.

Many years later I had a girlfriend who had an '86 hatchback in auto. That too was a decent car. Very solid and built to last for sure.

Looks like you've spent many years in one and we'd love to see some pics and share more stories.

Welcome to the forum Robert, I agree with Tony it is great shape and a great little motor, my sister had one the same model in white and I enjoyed driving it very zippy yet felt in total control, enjoy the forum

      I was told jy Toyota hilux grinner 1990 2xd was rare 10 years ago. I just read in good condition they fetch around 50,000. My car is in good condition and has service history and receipts. Can anyone tell if this is true.

      2001 Toyota Camry wagon passenger side locks not working

      Had a similar issue with my 2003 Camry sedan. I'm think the mechanism might be bit stiff, so removing the door card and spraying the locking cable (the one that pushes the lock knob into the lock and unlock position on the interior door handle) with some Innox might work to loosen up the old grease and get it working again.

      2007 - floor mats

      Hi Ed, Hmm that's a tough one mate ..short of going to Toyota to get genuine and no I doubt they would laugh at you as it's a sale and money is tight right now. I am not sure if you are on Facebook or not but I have seen an advert on there for what looks like superb floor mat sets that do seem excellent quality and a wide range but like most things now they are not cheapish. My best advice is source some good quality ones and search online for someone who offers embroidery as some do tradie shirts and logos on clothing it may be worth a phone call to those sort of places as I know a local one to me does all sorts of work on many things related to embroidery or an alternative choice is the online sites like Temu... EBay etc Let us know how you get on mate good luck. KAA

      2001 Toyota Camry wagon passenger side locks not working

      Gday, I've got a 2001 Camry wagon which has been having locking issues for a while now, just started occurring out of the blue. There is no fob so we manually unlock and lock from the driver side door, however the rear and front passenger doors consistently have issues. Either when we unlock one or both doors don't unlock and must be unlocked from inside the car, or when we lock it one or both don't lock and the car beeps. To fix that, we open the door, lock it from the inside, the lift up the handle and close the door before releasing the handle. That fixes the locking issue. When testing the locks from inside the car, I can see that they partially lock and unlock, so I'm wondering if they need to be replaced entirely or if there's some other way to fix it. Cheers

      2002 Hilux Engine Replacement

      I have a 2002 Hilux that is meant to have a 5le engine but i think it was replaced with a new engine with a turbo before i bought it. Its a different engine compared to what is in the manual - eg the alternator is at the bottom not the top as per the manual. The engine is seized - tried roll starting downhill and wheels just locked up. I cant find what the engine is. Any ideas on where I would find it? Also 5LE engines are hard to find - any ideas on what else i could put in? Does a 1KZ fit?
