its not the oil cooler, its a sensor, id be guessing its got somthing to do with oil level.

trace the wires back in the loom and see if they go to the ECU.

Sensors like that are used for oil level in the newer 1JZ's

Oil level indicator. It's the orange oil level light that comes on when you start a Stivo then goes out after a few seconds.(If your lucky :P )

I believe Northy had some problems with this light a couple of months ago...... :P

is it important, will affect anything if i dont wire it in

cheers

you will prolly just get a low oil level warning light on the cluster appart from that it prolly wont "hurt"

trace the wires back and see if they go to the ECU, if they do there's a good chance the ECU will go into limp mode with them missing to protect the engine.

With it unplugged, you will see the ORANGE oil light on the dash, which indicates low oil LEVEL...

The red light is for you oil pressure...

Leaving the sensor unplugged won't affect your ECU as far as limp mode goes...

What car is this motor going in???

Ummm, in that case, the 1ZZ should have the low oil level sensor aswell... If not, don't worry about it...

But if they do, swap them over and plug it in...

Should work fine...

the 1zz dosent have the sensor in the same position, so the plugs might be diff so you may have to make somthing up loom/plug wise

Remove both of them and compare what they look like inside the sump and the diameter that goes into the sump...

They should be interchangeable...

Like take the one out of the old MR2 Motor and install that into the 2ZZ Motor...

Should be fine...

Might also need to extend the wires on the old loom tho...
