Seized AC compressor.

2007 Aurion ATX, ~ 200Kkm. My sons car.

Freeway driving, 35C outside, AC on of course. Then...grinding noises, loss of power steering. Pulled over.

Diagnosis: seized AC compressor. Belt snapped. Flatbed to mechanic for assessment. Quoted $2800.

Does this sound right?

Cheers.

Have read the parts list all seems ok.

when replacing a seized compressor you must also replace all other components the reason  when a compressor seizes it  usually sends metal filings through the system if you just replace the compressor and recharge the metal filing will travel back into the compressor then you have double trouble.

I am not going to comment on the $ value, the list of parts required is normal these days as most components can’t be flushed out  eg:  condenser and receiver dryer etc. hoses are about the only thing that can be flushed out with success, even then you have to be certain they are spotless internally.

Thankyou. Similar comments from a mechanic mate of mine today. He thought it wasn't unreasonable.
