TRD CAI ISSUE (WARNING?)

I dunno if anyone else has faced this issue but be aware of all induction systems.

I've had my TRD CAI since Sept 03, apparently was the first one in AUS.. anyhoo, i installed it myself (3 friggan hours.... dont ask!)

after 56,000km i removed it the other day when i did a service... was dirty, thought id give it a good clean out! I noticed in 3 spots i have wear marks, almost through the thin pipe. in 1 spot in particualr seriously thinner then paper thin. I've removed the CAI because im not gonna risk the damage associated with having a hole in it.

I dunno how this could of happend because i espically made up 2 extra supports for the CAI when i installed it and it is extremely tight inside the engine.

Im thinking of changing to maybe an AEM system or something similar.

maybe next time you service your car, pull it out and check... cud save ur engine!

AEM has the same issue (as they all do I think) where they rub on the bodywork where the bend is that it exits the engine bay to go behind the spotlight. I've put a layer of padding with electrical tape over it to absorb the vibrations at that point.

also note: instead of using padding, another option is to use sum non slip mat and just fold it up and place it under the red pipe, and also use tape to stick it to the chassis.

if its the edge of the metal against the pipe you can also use some silicone hose ...

just cut the length you need and slice if down the side ..

then just pop it on and the cai will be touching the silicone ..

that is exactly the spot I am talking about. Most CAIs will rub there as they bounce around and vibrate no matter how much bracing you use.

yep i did the same thing with my AEM, just taped some chunky gorilla grip against the chassis where the intake knocks against, problem solved :)

watch out for the small air condition pipe (its about 5mm) it rubs hard against the cai pipe. i suggest get some conduit works wonders

Another issue that i have found...

Has anyone checked after they wash their car how wet the filter is? I have put sponges and cloth to try and suck up the water but it still gets wet. How do you guys stop the filter from getting wet? Or do you just not worry about it

I suggest you may want to oil your filter a bit Nick, as from memory yours was just a paper filter for some reason.

I think i will just get a new filter and have it put in next service....

Mine doesnt touch onthe body work as cos its a facelift i had to do some manual bashing so iv made a big enough gap!

one problem i have found is the rubber hose is being sheered abit by the clamps

the clamps are prob too tight bro, unloosen em jus a lil

otherwise sooner or later u gonna have a split hose :(
