clutch modification suggestion

hey guys. i have an idea to mods my clutch. i do not know where should i start and what parts should i get?

i heard someone said change the whole clutch system and flywheel would be the best. is that truth?

would anyone tell me the difference between the stock one and modes one. if you can, please give the parts number and brand and shop.

A clutch is a part you cant modify, you can only change it over.

On most cars the standard clutch will be soft and less durable to make it more user friendly.

When you change a clutch over for performance reasons, you usually upgrade to a heavy duty clutch (And pressure plate) which is more durable and will last longer in situations such as drag strip, hard take offs etc etc.

Most people seem to use Excedy.

you can get the clutch cover modified. Modifying the oem pressure plate for more clamp works better than the exedy hd covers according to NPC. Use an organic exedy disc and modified oem pressure plate, this makes a really nice combo

about six weeks ago i installed a new clutch in my 1zz.... and i can recommend the exedy sports tuff heavy duty..... its not heavy to engage (its actually about the same as standard, which i guess is because its hydraulic).

its a good bitey hearty clutch. great for take off and even better for quick shifts between gears.... if it can chirp my 215 / 35 / 18 tyres, it makes me happy ;)

if its around $600....clutch & flywheel here i come..

after fixing my damaged door

after painting and installing eyelids/wingtips

after installing quickshifter

after installing coilovers

after purchasing and installing exhuast

after upgrading front brakes to slotted discs

~$400 mark maybe more, maybe less

TRD is the same thing as the exedy HD clutch ;)

the Excedy is better then the TRD, higher clamp pressure and also feels better under foot, the excedy is less "springy" when compared to the TRD and so far i have busted a TRD Clutch but the Excedy that replaced it is still going strong.

Flywheel depending on brand will be $350-600ish then there is installation which is a bitch in our cars.

it shouldn't require the engine out, I dont plan on removing the engine when I do MAP81's clutch, you just remove the subframe and lower the box end of the motor so the gearbox can clear the chassis rail. Removing the driveshafts is about the hardest part of the job

I have a 6-speed install to do on another car later this week, I'm not removing the engine to do that one either.

If you can get trade price anywhere, you should be able to get the Exedy HD clutch kit with an organic disc for about $240-260, retail is about $350-400
