Mic,

Depends on how much you are importing.

If you get 1 CAI you can say it for personal use only not for resale. Not GST probably no Duty.

But went I tried to get 10 AEM CAI I spoke to Aust Customs and they told me 10% GST on the entire value of the goods and shipping. Then another 10% on duty.

Thats why group buys for overseas suppliers are not worth it IMO.

Cheaper to go individually through ebay.

INDECENT(group buy king) always uses local suppliers.

Good luck mate.

Cheers

when buying things from overseas, always ask them to put i down as a gift, ask them not to put the value down on the documents

cheers

the limit is $1000 AU for both the goods and shipping .....

As stated by ralyrt just do that. Otherwise the way it works is you will need to pay 10% duty on the goods ... then they add the shipping cost and add a further 10% GST onto that total

e.g. Say goods are 1500 & shipping is 500

So goods + 10% duty = 1650

add shipping = 1650+500 = 2150

add gst = 2150 + 10% = 2365

So your $2000 purchase just turned into $2365

I would say he just got lucky.

Maybe a big drug bust in Aust Customs that week and they didnt worry about the small potatoes like a few car parts.

But I wouldn't be importing goods counting on being that lucky every time.

THX for the fast reply guys!!! i just received an email from the customs.. and u guys were right..

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your email.

All goods (except for tobacco products and alcoholic beverages) may be

imported duty and tax free if their value is $1,000 or less. As your goods

will fall under this category you will not be required to pay any taxes when

the item arrives into Australia.

I anticipate this infomation will be of assistance.

Maybe you should speak to Danz in Melbourne.

I remember he purchase a AEM CAI and arranged his own shippment back to Australia.

I think he said it would have been chepaer and less hassle to get the supplier to send it.

Good luck mate.

It is $1000 per shipment, goods declared to be under the value of $1000 are entered as "SACS" (self assessed clearances) the main concern will be quarantine, they may want to look at the wheels for any dirt/insects etc

Posted

per shipment?? icic.. thx

dont mind it being quarantined..... but hell i dun wanna pay for it!! its freaking brand new..... no dirt and **** for sure

waiwong said the supplier will charge heaps.... and i remember last yr... even the sales told us.. they charge heaps.. (lol... theres still some honest sales in HK, omg :P)

anyway..... DANZ ay? hmm... PM'd! :)

anyone else who knows some good courier??????

some told me to send it with the airlines?? like... sending it as an extra luggage..

Posted

i think you are worrying too much about this shipment. sure it is confusing and there are agents and customs brokers to help with customs clearance but from the sounds of things you do not need this as you are only importing one set of wheels this is quite small.

i suggest you send your goods with post as that would be most economical for you. if you were to go with a courier such as dhl, fedex, ups you will pay a lot more for their services especially if you do not have an ongoing business account with them. their services include tracking, clearance and door to door delivery.

packages need to be declared for customs purposes and the sender can declare it as a gift, sample of non commercial value (ncv) or goods. i guess real businesses can be reluctant to make false declarations. anyhow you are only importing a set of wheels it is not a big deal unlike you were bringing in a container or half container of wheels. customs knows that a quantity like that would be for commercial purpose.

duty/tariff/gst can be owed to the government should the commercial value of your goods exceed the limit allowed as free. should check with customs agent on the limit.

wow!! thx for your info man!

now.. i just need to get a friend to carry them to the PO...

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

btw... do u guys buy center caps with ur rims?

Posted

center caps are sold separately and around $50 each one i have never purchased any. i believe it is better to use the money to get high quality racing nuts something which works.
