Smaller car - bigger engine

Here’s one last look at a Subaru Impreza prototype before its make its official debut at the New York Auto Show in a few months. Subaru gave us a big clue with the showing of their B5 concept, and the Impreza and WRX models are following the B5’s lead with a dramatic makeover which turns its trunk into a hatchback! Yes, that’s right: The Impreza, as seen here, will be a hatchback when the new model makes it’s debut for the 2008 model year! Just like the B5 Concept. And, we’re hearing the Impreza name may even change with the introduction of the new car, but we can’t imagine Subaru dropping the WRX designation. As for power – we’re anticipating a big update to their 2.5-liter H4 turbo, with an output of around 330-horsepower and maybe even higher in some markets!

a bit ova the top... both the WRX n EVO r kinda almost trademarked as 2.0L 4pot turbo 4door AWD 5 seater sedans... that's y i was kinda pi55ed at the new WRX... 2.5L :(

cars like those ones should keep they'r distinctive features... just like the skylines with the rear lights.... or the BMW with the grill

Guest JDM y0 !

slightly offtopic, but what D_ICE said about the new 2.5.... how does the subaru go in rally events, eg FIA engine capacity when it competes ? do they put an old 2.0 engine into them for rally or are they allowed to run the 2.5 but in some restricted form ? eg the lancer is a 2.0 and the new wrx is 2.5, for competing with each other they are now in a different class one would think ?

hope this makes sence lol.

and sorry to be slightly off topic

so in saying that the Skyline's should have stayed with the RB26 then too

now duh the 2.5 is better than a 2.0... after all there's no replacement for displacement... but i like it when brands stick to their trademarks... :) it's just a preferance that has nothing to do with performance... i mean when you say 2.0L turbo sedan AWD u instantly think EVO and WRX... that's what i like

With Rally, in group A in world rally can run what they want pretty much so it doesnt matter what the size of the engine is, it makes more power than all our rollas put together.

In Oz, there no longer is a factory Subaru team because of the new 2.5ltr donk

WRC (used to be Group A, but is officially known as WRC) HAS to be 2.0L 4cyl engine, however the homologation requirement has long since lapsed (last homologated car was the Evo6). Thus, the current WRC Subarus are 2.0L, NOT 2.5L, and cannot be unless the rules are changed. They are also restricted to producing around 300-350HP, so the main performance gains come from anti-lag and maxing out torque.

Its seems on styling though that the wrx has gone for a more of a cuteness stylin cue (similar to the Toyota) N the evo has gone the whole grrrr way... :)

Either way  for both companies on there styling for the updates!...

i'll have to see their backsides later... ;)

Yarrghh kill it!!! Ewww...

I actually quite like it... Come on u gotta agree that its better than the frog lights stage

I for one actually liked the bug-eyed Impreza, especially the WRX. Reminded me of a 993 Porsche (which is a good thing). The tailights on the other hand were a huge step backwards, reminded me of a baby teething (giant red gum with a little pearly white tooth coming through).

I approve of the new direction towards hatch-design, afterall Subaru is trying to compete against the premium Euros, and that means A3, Golf Gti, Megane RS Cup etc, and they're all hatches. Thinking that the WRX's only real competitor is the Evo is being severely narrow-sighted
