Hey readers.

I'm a proud owner of a 05 JDM Corolla Sedan with a 1ZZ-FE engine in it. Only major thing I've done under the hood is currently put a CAI with a K&N Pod Filter on it.

I currently have a SC-14 that I recently picked up for $228.05 from eBay.

Taking a little bit of a look, it will require quite a lot of modification and custom piping attaching itself from the throttle body, through the supercharger then to the block...

I then rung around in Sydney, Found that a guy in Castle Hill Toyota quoted something around the $5000 mark for one that'd fit my car, But I realize that it's a very rough quote.

And not to mention with eather option

I'd have to upgrade quite a lot of stuff.

I was asking for opinions and if anyone has a spare 1zz TRD supercharger around that they may want to sell..? (Maybe, Hopefully???)

I was also thinking on the side about turbo-ing my 1zz... but that'd mean I'd have to sell my DC Sports extractors that I ordered from the US, and triple layered with exhaust heat wrap... (Damn?)

But any input and information with both forced inductions would be absolutely great!

talk to Evo7 (Evan) about this, his 1zz is S/C

The blitz kit is relatively easy to fit (I know because myself and SupaTouring helped him)

Its ok Mick,

he sent me a PM and i have sent one back, IMO, the SC14 has too much stuffing around to get it to work.

Since its only the charger and nothing else.

Just contacted him, He's given me quite a few great pointers...

Thanks!

ok so im just going to post up some resources that i suggest you read through and also going to provide u with some facts and opinions.

So s/c a 1zz i say u have a few options.

TRD kit, blitz kit, rotrex, and any other blower manufactorer out there as given time and money u can make anything fit - within reason.

The first question u need to make is what is ur end target ? .... wat r u aiming for from ur rolla ? wat r ur expectations that ur trying to fill by modifying ur car ? also not meaning to be straight forward but more importantly what sort of budget are u aiming to have available? as these funbdamental questions will dictate which path u should take but also as importantly whether u should proceed or pursue an alternative option.

As ur cheapest option of all is to just get one of the kits be it the blitz or trd ..... but from a results perspective they are pretty mild .... i'd say u will put out 110-120kw .... now in that sort of power range is going through the trouble of the install really worth it ? for some it is ..... dont get me wrong ... hearing the s/c whine coming out of a rolla i love it but again if ur chasing numbers and performance this is not the right path. There are a couple of charged 1zz's on the forum 1 running the trd and the other running the blitz ..... i dont remember seeing dyno sheets or 1/4 mile slips for either so factual results have been a bit sketchy.

some opinions from people that have owned a 1zz with a charger ...... dont take offence they are just opinions

sell the blower and get a 2zz... with all the money you will spend tryin to make your s/c'ed 1zz barely reach 165-175whp you can buy two 2zz engines with tranies or turbo that fker!

So here is the story: A local friend of mine on 9th gen bought a TRD S/C for his corolla s a few months ago, but was never really satisfied with it. So about a month after he had it on, we took it off and he bought an xrs....

so ur option could also be to trade up to a 2zz but really i leave that up to you to decide.

Now to my list of questions ..... if u have a big enough budget and are aiming big then i'd suggest cracking the engine open and slapping on a turbo and hitting it hard ..... ive seen a few turbo'd 1zz's that demand respect so it is possible. My only concern with s/c a 1zz is at the end of the day a sportivo with CAI, headers and exhaust will give u a scare.

Some good reads from 9thgen .... there isnt much available on newcelica .... there are a few write ups on matrixowners but the below should get u started.

http://www.9thgencorolla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46356

http://www.9thgencorolla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107988

http://www.9thgencorolla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34808

http://www.9thgencorolla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21944

Reality is that it is really up to u but i think u need to answer the above and from there we can get into the details of how u should proceed.

cheers

What I want out of my corolla: I want to make it unique to my tastes, and be (Very) fast...

What kind of a budget do you have?: As much as I don't seem to have a big budget, It doesn't really bother me, even if I had to save for half a year, to a year to afford the upgrades.

I mainly suggested Supercharging, as an alternative to getting a complete turbo kit with extractors, cause I already have prepped DC Sports 4-1 ceramic coated extractors, triple wrapped with exhaust heat insulation ($500 worth)

The extractors are the only reason I'd prefer to go supercharging. One of my friends did say I'd get more power through putting a Turbo on it.

IMO if you want massive power then turbo is the better route...

Well it sounds like turbo it is then...

But internals first! :P

Simply Decompress the head with a decompression plate, and add turbo :P

do other internals later on down the track :P But take notice from Xoom, i myself, am not after BIG Power, i just wanted a little more oomph lol :P

I realise that, but Xoom has done some pretty crazy stuff to his 2zz... Especially to get 110% (248kw) it's stock power to it, Such as ECU, LSD, Fuel system upgrade, turbo (important part), CAI, exhaust, And alot more to menton (Mainly cause I've forgotten what else he's done)

As far as the decompression plate goes, then turbo... I'd like to see how much I can get out of a Naturally Aspirated 1zz before I bolt a turbo onto it.

Plus, Xoom has stated you'd be getting 110-120kw out of a 1zz (as opposed to 89kw). More than half of that would be coming from the (Much) better tuning that you'd need to run the Supercharger.

But I do ultimately get your point, Evo.

But 4wd sounds so tempting~ (big expenses, but well worth attempting to get power to all fours)

A turbo 1zz will crap all over a supercharged 1zz pound for pound any day of the week.

I helped supercharge pippy's 1zz corolla, then later helped build the turbo setup for it when he sold the charger. The turbo setup made a heap more power at the same boost on the same stock long engine, it also did it a lot easier with less knock. Your headers wont make much difference with a supercharger and I wouldn't make the final decision based around already owning a set of average headers.

AWD is a waste of time on a ZZE unless you're running a setup with enough power to overcome the massive drivetrain loss and extra weight (think built 3S)

check out my ride thread in my signature .... on page 4 or 5 i think is the fast4's article .... a lot of detail contained there .... alternatively check out my garage on the forum http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?app=garage&do=view&tab=mods&id=7 .... i think i have most mods in there.

As far as the decompression plate goes, then turbo... I'd like to see how much I can get out of a Naturally Aspirated 1zz before I bolt a turbo onto it.

do it once .... do it right .... get the thing decompressed properly as opposed to going a thicker head gasket .... this is just a quick fix that i wouldnt put money into ...... i would also suggest dont waste ur cash on n/a mods .... if ur gonna force feed it put all ur resources into getting that sorted ..... every mod other than my ecu which was related to n/a modding i have since sold off because it wasnt useful for the end game of being turbo'ed

just to clarify that would be producing that power with the charger on it ..... im pretty sure i havent seen a supercharged 1zz running these kits produce any more than 125kw @ wheels ...... im more than happy to be corrected .... Jase what did jases 1zz put out when it was charged ?

But 4wd sounds so tempting~ (big expenses, but well worth attempting to get power to all fours)

this is the last of ur worries ..... until ur 200% sure that ur gonna push some huge numbers then look into it bcuz then u can make for arrangements to see how the turbo setup will fit around all the extra bits ur gonna need in the car to support the AWD system ...... i'd also highlight that the only AWD setup ive seen in a zze ended up rendering the car to be unable to be put on the road ..... simply too much was cut out for it to be classed as being safe per ADR then again it did eventually become a rally car since that was its main purpose ..... maybe it can be done without taking any crucial chunks out of the car but it isnt the cheapest of mods ...... i did look into the AWD system that is available in japan on one of their cars but it simply wouldnt handle big power from my digging around so ur left with the GT4 system.

A turbo 1zz will crap all over a supercharged 1zz pound for pound any day of the week.

Agreed

Your headers wont make much difference with a supercharger and I wouldn't make the final decision based around already owning a set of average headers.

Agreed ..... ur willing to spend a few grand on the bases of a $500 part ..... get rid of the part and use the money towards ur bigger build

AWD is a waste of time on a ZZE unless you're running a setup with enough power to overcome the massive drivetrain loss and extra weight (think built 3S)

come on now jase ...... no need to sell out the ZZE :P ..... no need to bring a 3S into this discussion ..... i think my 2zz more than qualifies to deal with this issue ur presenting ;) :P ;) :P

Hmm, Nice...

What kind of filter are you running on your DIY intake?

I'd like to know what it looks like, If you don't mind... I was considering the DIY option for myself before I bought a CAI system...

I've also got a set of DC Sports headers, They unfortunately currently aren't installed. Did you buy them from America, if you did, do they have any fitting issues?

Forgive me for being a n00b, but what's a Unichip, and why is it better to run a 1zz with a 2zz cat back system?

Thanks!

Here's a run from a ZZE122R with TRD Charger, 2zz injectors, Custom SRI with 5" K&N Filter, Custom 4>2>1 headers and 2.5" exhaust, Water/Meth Injection, Bored throttle body, PFC with 7K revlimit, C160 LSD 6-speed etc. Ran around 8psi for this figure from memory.

Here's the same car with custom turbo setup, ST215 3sgte 525cc injectors, MY08 WRX TD04L turbo, BA XR6 Intercooler, 2" cooler pipes, custom steam pipe manifold, Custom plenum, 2.5" exhaust, bored throttle body and Vipec V44 ECU. Lower figure on a bit over 7psi, higher figure on around 9.5psi

Mine is sort of similar to this, but i have:

Blitz Compressor

CES CAI

2zz Injectors

Emanage Blue

Standard Headers and cat

Sportivo Catback

standard gearbox

even standard clutch

standard everything else in terms of engine :P

and it still makes a decent amount of power XD

The choice is yours, but if you want obsessively BIG power, go a turbo set-up.

If you want instant power whenever you hit the pedal, get a charger... simple :P

I think you'll find a correctly sized turbo setup has the same boost response as a supercharger ;)

I believe Pippy would like his to be less responsive :P

A correctly sized turbo will give you more response than a supercharger.

hmmm... i cant win this fight... LOL

by all means, save your pennies and go for the Turbo set-up... its what the two masters of boost recommend :P

xoom and Cha54 :P XD
