Anyone got a custom exhaust done to there aurion yet?

I think a little bigger pipe will allow the aurion to breath a little more.. giving it some more power and a good grunt to it

I have had a look under the aurion. It goes from the engine into 1 cat(very small cat). Then i think its a 2.5 inch pipe down to the rear wheels then a 2inch pipe out the dual exhaust? im 90% sure on them numbers(someone correct me if im wrong)

Plz comment :)

I'm yet to drive one or look at one closely.

Ben, say you got a 2.5" mandrel bent system, a decent 3" stainless intake with a pod on the end (like the ZZE CAIs), and filled her with 98RON, what sort of performance would we expect? Is the stock equipment very restrictive?

im also interested in getting a exhaust system..

but have no idea about the specs.

some info would be great =)

go to a muffler shop, they will tell u all the answers...

I doubt any exhaust shop would have experience with the Aurion

With everything researched and developed, should expect around 15 - 20 percent power gain...

I think you might be able to make your Aurion louder and noisier, maybe even sound good but the stock exhaust is not restricting the performance of the car much at all.

20% power gain would be 200kw to 240kw! Sure thing. Why bother with a supercharger?

Where did you get that from the sort of gain you could get from a decent exhaust on a 20 year old V8 Holden.

I would say it's possible to lose power over the stock system which is well designed if anything a really well thought through low restriction design might addd 3-4rwkw.

Of course it would sound faster!

The Aurion has a three-way catalytic converter system. Two cats straight off the ends of the exhaust manifold, then the third is just after the system joins to one right before the resonator. It then runs back into two towards the back and out through two mufflers.

Personally, I'd like to run a full twin 2 or 2 & 1/2" system but I'm not sure how I'd go trying to run two sets of pipes under the car. If I can ditch the three cats and run two High flow cats I reckon it should gain a little power. I've been talking to a company in Perth but they said they need to see the car before they can make any recommendations as they haven't done an Aurion exhaust system.

I still haven't heard any more on the K&N filter kit yet but I think I'll just order the kit from the states myself once I get to Perth. I'll keep you posted.

I Picked my ZR6 on the weekend, fitted my 20" wheels and took it to L&S springs in Berrimah to have it lowered. The guys there spent 4 hours fitting the King springs only to find that with the bigger wheels and 245 tyres it was going to scrub the inside of the rear guards, so they had to refit the standard springs. I only want to drop the car around 25mm so I'll try a few different companies when I get to Perth. It was a $200 lesson.

You gotta be careful with changing all those catalytic converters. Pretty hefty fines for not getting that right.

The ECU is also very sensetive to changes, will most likely start throwing codes if you go changing the cat setup.

I think King Springs only have Low for the Aurion and are supposed to drop the car around 30mm. The front of the car looked fine with the lowered springs but the back looked like it had dropped a lot more. About 15mm of the rear tyre was under the guard.

I might try some pedders springs otherwise I might look into getting some Adjustable Coilovers, but thats a bit expensive just for looks sake.

I'll try and post some pics over the next couple of days, I would have perferred to wait until the car was lowered before posting pics but I'll take a few now anyway.

One of the things i was going to say as well. the thing that tells me the current system is good enough is the TRD Aurion did not change there exhaust system what so ever exept for the tips.. Just somthing to think about

My main reason for wanting to change the exhaust was just to get a decent note, nothing loud but just a nice purr. If I gain a bit of power it's a bonus, as long as I don't lose power I'll be happy. Toyota has obviously spent a lot of money designing and engineering the engine & exhaust and I understand it's pretty much at the peak of it's Power & Torque.

if a change of tone is wat u just want, then all u hv to do is just changing the muffler part, dont worry bout the whole exhaust system. Cars nowadays, even if u change the exhaust system, without some work done on the ecu and stuff, i dont think u get ANY power increase or shxt...

btw, talkin bout aurion coilovers, IF u can find, i fuking gonna buy it

Cool, cant wait for pics....

So was it the rears causing the problems?, would adjusting the camber help? I know that if you lower the car, naturally the top of the wheel starts to tuck inwards...

Hi Tech Mufflers have developed exhaust systems for 200SX and WRX guaranteeing 20% power increase, I don't see why you couldn't do the same with the Aurion seeing as it's so restrictive, especially just after the manifold...

Because they make the claim doesn't make it true.

I am sure the guarantee has enough weasel words for them to wriggle out of the claim or they would be out of business.

You keep saying the Aurion exhaust is so restrictive and that isn't true either!

A good point was raised about the TRD Aurions performance exhaust system. ( Dead stock with diffusers).

Have a look at the early model old 3 litre V6 camrys and then the lexus ES300 exhausts same 3 litre V6 and then look at the Aurion.

Change the rear mufflers for a bit of a rorty sound if you like but it's not going to make a measurable performance difference and cost a lot and you may find it's too loud and annoying after a while.

Posted

If you have a close look at the exhaust system at the front, you'll see how it squashes up to about 1cm gap and then opens back up... If you got rid of that closing gap, make it mandrel bent the whole way through, would open it up a hell of a lot more...

And the claims from Hi Tech have been dyno proven :) :) :) ...

i did the muffler(remus) mod for camry05 before, just to let u know, nowadays, i hate driving camry when i m used to my aurion, coz i m feeling tat its too noisy.

regarding the the squashed part, i definately going under my car and confirm with this, if so, i may consider hi-tech

If anyone can get this mod before i do, i will be very happy, coz i would like to hear how loud it is first, coz "hotdog" wont help a lot.. -_-

Just found out the TRD does run a different exhaust set up.

A specially developed sports exhaust supplied by Tenneco Automotive reduces exhaust back pressure by 15% to work more effectively with the TVS blower.

APC enhancements in Perth told me they have not done a full system on an Aurion yet. They have however replaced the dual mufflers for a customer but they said it produced a droning sound, but the custumer was happy with it. I was quoted around $1400 for a cat back system but would perfer to do the whole system. As mentioned in a previous post the standard exhaust looks very restrictive at the point it joins into one. I'll just have to wait until I get to Perth for them to look a the vehicle and make some recommendations.

Ekkk droning... Sounds like the guy got cannons lol.

maybe opt for a loop muffler, they tend to be more quiter than the cannon types...

just poke a hole on the muffler, i m sure u get a "decent" tone! Looks factory, but sounds nuts!~
