  1. yeah w00t team white 1zz! i wouldnt worry about about speed humps with lowering though man, your car will look and handle a TONNE better with lower suspension. There are 16in potholes where i live all over the place and i am just in the process of getting some hard ar$e suspension now :P
  2. yeah thats right :) , i read some mag saying the 3mps is faster than a porsche in third to fourth(i think) and they say the 3mps rolling start is like untouchable It was WHEELS, and not just any Porshce, its the 250+kw 911 Carerra :D WHEELS & MOTOR reviews (scroll down to bottom) I know a guy who was saying he ran an MPS3 the other night on a rolling start from 2nd, he said they go alright...but he took it down with a cb70 charade running 10 pound with a broken turbo Not fair to compare modded to stock though, for a stock car the MPS3 is a great deal, top choice Zee :)
  3. awe i don't know if you could get an RS4 going quicker...but the main problem there would be availability of performance parts for the Audi. Because the GTR is such a cult car it has massive aftermarket support and therefore getting massive horsepower can be done quite easily. I mean unless you got some german engineers handy for a job on the RS4 :P...And yeah cost wise they are quite similar, the R34s are ridiculously expensive for a jap car (I remember 3 years ago they were selling for about 120k!).
  4. who said anything about reliability or drivability? I was talking strictly in terms of direct performance comparison. The fact is, in a straight line, a modded GTR (i will not mention costs as things can vary alot depending on who you know...) launching at 9k rpm will break your neck if you are not ready and the speedo will spin faster than the tacho in a "normal" car - this is not exaggeration. Unless you have a supercar or superbike, basically you got no chance. How it will last/how it would be to drive, etc can be debated until the cows come home.
  5. I feel i should put in my 2c :P *the R32s are nice cars, well polished, go good for stock, but compared to the GTi's, i don't think they stack up. Just with ECU for example the GTis can get an extra 30kw atw, thats a good deal. *any turbo'd 9th gen corolla (done *half* properly) would crucify an R32 Golf and a GTi Golf. *a GTR with 10k thrown at it is pretty much unbeatable, with exceptions to cars like the Atom and Turbo'd Hayabusa's. *late model rx7 = damn nice, makes 500hp easy, but very thirsty and quite prone to BOOM! (they often get Knock values of ~130 just randomly, detonation can occur as low as 40 knock) I have run an R32 Golf i don't give a sh!t what i run and it was actually close (he had 4 people in the car :P) ...you shouldnt have been a wuss Pete, you could have given him a go
  6. Depending on mods and if any tuning has been done :) Personally i would say there is no difference at all in terms of comparing 60ft times, a pebble on the track would make more difference :P And 60ft is only about 18.3 metres...by then you are probably only at 5-6k rpm anyway so lift wouldnt make much of a difference there. And you should be able to get my "record" easy Bill, its a sh!t time for the crap i got done to my car, haha and like i said after the run, I farked it - I thought it was slow as buggery, just wouldnt get the traction. I reckon though if i could sort traction issues, maybe throw in some other little supporting N/A mods (like a clutch? its starting to slip after that last drag night, hehe), in perfect conditions and a skilled run i think you could get the car into the 14's. BUT that would be alot of stuffing around and money spent just to go a little bit faster, i am really only concerned how the car goes on the street and i am happy with it for the moment. Would like to go to this one...but not sure about running, finances have just copped a caning and i am positive the clutch wouldnt take kindly to another bunch of runs...let alone the tires, should have a taken a pic for you guys of all the rubber i scraped off the wheel arch and bottom of the car :P
  7. xoom man, you are failing to mention that the 400hp figure on the 2zz was made with a GT30 - the size of the turbo that they are running kind of determines the output - these are 500hp rated turbos. No one has been able to fit a GT30 on a 1zz yet from what i know, however they are plenty of guys getting around the 340hp atw mark on stock 1zzs with larger T28s (rate around the high 300s-400hp, nowhere near GT30 size). You think a 1zz couldnt make the same power as that 2zz if they could scam the GT30 on there? I bet with the car they put that in was chop shopped like buggery to fit it in, probly a celica yeah? Good luck getting a reliable tune on a 2zz with 15 pounds on stock internals as well, because of the high compression ratio (11.5:1 is it? Compared to the 10:1 of the 1zz), the motor is very prone to BOOM! :P And who was it that was arguing the revability of the 1zz? I can tell you first hand that these motors take the hits guys, a stock 1zz motor can take 7600rpm (1200 rpm odd above stock fuel cut) and not break (anytime soon that is :P ) There have been reports of guys in the US accidentally revving their 1zz's to 8600rpm and not having BOOM - try running a 2zz anywhere above 8700 and something will break real soon, if not straight away...Northy? :P Obviously as well, a 1zz with a built head can go up to 8500rpm.... And yeah...Yank dyno figures are worthless, they overstate to buggery and vary alot, the numbers are just a rough indication If you are planning to take things F/I and be adventurous there is no argument of the superiority of the 1zz over 2zz, isnt that right Bill?
  8. that must be the 1kw difference of the Stivo ;) :P (141kw for stivo, 140kw for celica)
  9. they looked sthoooooooopa! :P
  10. since you are putting this PFC in for the 2zz you have in a Spyder, i am thinking you are going to have some difficulties, because basically you are trying to match up a Celica GTS ECU (2zz) with a car built on a 1zz ECU, so i just wouldnt be expecting some electronics to be working maybe... to try and get the best compatability going you are going to need an Aus Spec 2zz (Celica or Stivo, whichever one you got your engine from), MR-S and Celica GTS ECU "pinout". I know some guys in the US have done this conversion, but i am not sure whether they were using the PFC and it is hard to get info on Aus Spec ECUs...
  11. could i suggest that we take the windy cruise on the way home. could we just get to the venue in a as close to lunch as possible.........having 50+ cars crusing windy roads will be very hard..........and not everyone has cb's. 50+ cars Holy crap, you invite every car club in NSW? :P Ok it goes like this, here is a map for Newcastle that shows some locations of interest so maybe people can decide better what to do when, etc.
  12. Aww now its getting interesting, we could all go to the Autosalon (didnt know it was on then...) THEN into town, THEN down to Redhead, that would be a day out huh? :D Although if we couldn't stay at Autosalon long it would kind of be a ripoff to pay $20 to hang there for 30 mins when there is so much cool stuff to see!
  13. Tom...not including the locals mate? I am shattered :P As i have said in the first thread i will be in this, just a question though: You guys are not going to go all the way to Newcastle and then go down to Redhead from there as originally planned? Cause that is where the fun roads and nice cruise is. Going through Swansea and the Pacific highway at Doyelson is always crazy thick with coppers/speed cameras as well might i add (please note that i do not condone speeding)...Not that there is really a quicker alternative route back to Sydney from Redhead, just need to take into account possible grounds for defects, etc. And i will also add, based on #2 ground rule, damn i am happy i am not going along the Freeway with you guys...the only place that gives me road rage - trucks that block both lanes and go 80-90 kmh in the 110 zone :P
  14. I agree with you in many respects when value for money is concerned with exhausts here BanGn. IMO stainless is generally a **** that costs more than it is worth, although I will also say...these are 1.8L N/A cars, no matter how great VVTi or "Lift" is, an exhaust (full, catback, or even just muffler) really isnt going to make THAT much of a difference. You are obviously very punishing to your gearbox and clutch to get such results BanGn and just because you got a quicker track time, it doesnt mean your mods are superior - it means either your car is a freak (however the claimed dyno numbers say otherwise...), you have Schumacher like driving skillz, you have not mentioned other "conditions"/mods that may explain or a combo of :P
  15. Yeah the ol' 1zz loves it at 7200rpm Too bad having the car tuned makes a small difference to fuel consumption, as the stock ECU leans out in the higher rpms (it shouldnt, this leads to BOOM! :P ) a properly tuned car drinks more as the foot goes down :P I would like to cane it more than i do, but i don't really get that many opportunities where i normally drive :(
  16. Flat 15's on the horizon ;) ;) ;) HAHA yeh i wish. I doubt it will do anything on the track. Its more peice of mind that i have a good filter on there now and it sounds and feels great!! it takes more then 1 or 2 kw's to make a difference on the strip. Hey bill do you know if this will fit my car?? I hope so !! :P :P THIS!! Nar the TRD pod was the loudest!! But ive been told when it comes to Filters, Louder means more restrictive. So just goes to show. THe sound is definently deeper with the apexi. Makes the exhaust sound louder though?? I THink?? Hey Bill, if you want my advice (not that i am known for honesty :P :P ) I really wouldnt spend the money on a PFC unless you are going to get serious with the 1zz (as in go F/I down the track). They are costly to buy and tune and although they really do benefit the N/A 1zz, they are not worth it for the money, ECU's are groundwork more so than "bolt-on" performance mods. Also, although that model says its a match, it isnt what you are after unless you want to deal with alot of crap, PM me if you want more details :) PS. That apexi filter does look nice...
  17. yeah there are plenty of "twisties" along the coastline there, should be a good time to test my next set of mods :D :D :D and closer to the event, if Aimee doesnt get around to it, i will post up a map for you guys, but i think i will probably wait at the end of the freeway anyway so i can direct anyone who is unsure :) should be a change to see a gang of rollas around Newcastle rather than the bogan Commo/riced Lancer hoards, hehe.
  18. well seeing as this is where i am hanging at the moment, i will be in for this one :) Aimee, seeing as most of the guys are coming up from Sydney and don't know their way around maybe we could meet out near the end of the freeway or something and cruise into town, then down the coast from there? Then the guys can run back down the old pacific highway or whatever on the way back.
  19. i bet it wasnt more dirty than mine, but thanks to the camera flashes it looked schmick
  20. very nice vid man, i would like to thank my sponsors for having the best Corolla burnout of the night (couldnt get that right wheel to light up, the right lane was bogus). And for anyone interested who wasnt there/watching, the record run was in that clip towards the end - me in the right lane and tom in the left, funny watching it from spectator view, almost makes me want to spectate next time i go out there...almost :P :P :P
  21. if you got enough horsepower, you can make it through in 3rd :P
  22. These figures i remember u quoting to me yesterday were from the states right ? Dont forget they have atmospheric correction and a whole bunch of other interesting little gizmo calculations built in when getting their dyno figures ... again the reason y u just cant simply compare 1 to 1. As indicated and as ive told you bill i dont think these simple bolt-ons are going to get u over 100 without looking @ spending a bit more. An interesting piece of info to find out would be how maxed out are the stock injectors on a stock setup ? Once u've piled all these other mods on and say u go the pfc to increase ur rev cut chances are im guessing u will need more petrol up top to produce more power .... So if ur injectors are maxed out then thats another part that needs to be addressed ... u can sort of see that the list just keeps going until u've practically rebuilt the engine & replaced everything to cater for ur mods to produce more power ..... It is at this point u need to ask urself is this a car im going to keep for a while so im going to make the investment or am i going to sell it because im only going to attempt these mods half heartedly to prove a point that i am the quickest and then get another car which is setup from factory with a lot of this stuff taken care of ? If your thinking the 2nd of these options my advise to you is stop wasting ur money and save up for your replacement. Ive made my decision and its the 1st if urs is the 2nd before forking out for ur mods take a good look as to what its really going to cost you to make you happy ...... some wise words there Bill :P from my perspective, the 1zz rollas are a great car to build up, they take a pretty solid beating (clutch, gearbox, engine...) all round, parts are very available, reasonably priced. And to be honest, i think you could get away (at least for a little while) a half ****d mod job with the 1zz and not neccessarily need to add anymore to it - if something breaks it is easy to replace. The 2zz i can't really speak for though...
