  1. Ill let him do the honours of announcing his time ;) Thanks BigBum :D and yeah, x_tarcy33, i don't think i met half of the guys that came out, i was too busy trying to get in as many runs as possible, paranoid about missing out, haha.
  2. he knows his stuff this bloke ;) I may be visiting Purcell Performance someday :D
  3. posted! hey guys do you know where you can get the photos for the night? and yeah my time is easily beatable Pete, although i have to say, unless traction problems can be rectified, (eg, semi slicks) unless you are running an F/I setupi i don't think you could get a MUCH faster time with the 1zz just with N/A mods. They don't have the gearing and powerband of the stivos that gives them an advantage down the strip. also, sucks how not many guys got many runs, i think i got the most with 4 runs, Tom only got 2, so did Pete, it was pretty busy and about an hour got taken out by some bucket of crap Mazda spilling its guts all over the strip and another car blowing up at the starting line <_<
  4. Thanks bill! Told you i would get it...hehe The slip is on the way, but i do have to say, i was a little dissappointed, i definitely feel there was easily potential to shave off another 1/2 second if 1st and 2nd werent lighting up. Well it was my first time on the strip so i guess it was ok, but maybe as Bill (Syxxpac) and Bill (xoom) suggested, running with some smaller wheels might improve the traction. :P And damn...Pete got a 15.8? On ya man, i don't think you could get that with 93kw :P :P
  5. well IMO dynos are a tuning tool and nothing more...as stated there can be chronic variation between dynos, conditions, etc and as such numbers cannot be compared. If you want to use dynos to test for gains with n/a 4 cyls i also think that is pretty stupid, either the mod gives noticable gains or it doesnt, someone shouldnt need a number to tell them how much extra hp mod XXX gives them. also, gear ratios do play a very big role on dynos, lower gear = more hp and a higher "torque" reading. For most accurate results 1zz should be dyno'd in 4th and stivo in 5th. If you are just going for impressive numbers to wack off over, then by all means 3rd gear is the go... i could add more, but i am sure people have plenty to dissagree with there.
  6. thats because you car probably doesnt have enough horespower to wheelspin...
  7. Well Bill, you better be bringing along that $45... :P I will be there and getting in as many runs as possible, fear the 1zz power Everyone else, x_tarcy33 and Sportivo05, you should run, it should be good fun :)
  8. I am not normally one to participate in such a thread, but the last few days my media exposure has been bombarded with this "incident". Azza, top post mate, its a change to see some maturity around here, you said it all.
  9. Affirmative, 02 Conquest and the cut is 6300-6400rpm, most annoying...
  10. in my various reasearch through 1zz/2zz sites and forums I have seen many people give high praise to the TRD mufflers with results on Celica's on Corollas all averaging around 10hp atw (yes many dynos provided) with just a muffler switch, no catback piping. as great as CES appears to be here, i don't think there is actually anyone on this site that has a TRD muffler? I could be wrong, but there is definitely not one person who has had a TRD and then gone CES. So i don't really think you could find any definitive comparisons here, however because the TRD muffler is built for the stock muffler piping and *probably* wouldnt function as well with different piping, i am sure you would probably get more horsepower out of the CES system due to the better plumbing combined with a better muffler...but i could be wrong, very wrong
  11. ok guys, if all goes to plan i will come down for the drag battle on the 12th as well, will bring down my old bald 15" wheels as well and do a swap in between runs to really see if it will make a difference on the launch, because i am dubious as to the effectiveness of dragging with soft 60's rather than more firm 40/45's on 17"s... And Pete, go for the win mate, do it for South Africa, you need to redeem their poor build quality on the sportivo by winning a drag in your car
  12. bummer guys, not going to be able to make it up, got uni starting earlier than i thought next semester, looks like it would have been good fun... Oh well, maybe round 3 later in the year, will see how things go :)
  13. damn nice wheels there mate, looks to a solid exhaust system as well, very clean job. I think i see a high flow cat there as well...they sure do have a crazy setup at the back there with the MR-S, must be an SOB to work with.
  14. can't say i have ever actually had this problem... Sounds like another problem to add to the list of defective tendencies of the stivo.
  15. well LIFT just makes the car: pull harder and make more noise but its over all too quick then you have to change gear... The only thing missing is the liquid disscharge described here and LIFT would be nothing but a w@nk!
  16. haha, doh, my bad, missinterpreted. Well in that case Pete, i would probably stay at home/in the spectator stands as well :P
  17. Well anything with TYPE R on it in the Honda world clearly gives an extra 10kw atw, so why wouldnt it work for Corollas? They both come from Japan, same religious background, probably same workshops, so why not? And Bill, you been driving a Tarago while the Blue Bombshell is in the workshop? Holy crap i can't take driving any car slower than mine...makes me feel like i lost a leg in 'nam or something, it just...wont...go...any...faster...ARGH!!! Can't imagine what a 2zz => Middle Age Housewife vehicle transition is doing for you. Perhaps you should take comfort in some Kebabs man, i hear you are quite the fan... :P
  18. Gunmetal rims ftw man, craps all over those white ones you had (sorry other ppl with blindingly white, rice remniscent wheels) and the 15's should get you better traction in a straight line. Also, that is quite a shopping list you got going there Bill, i am too poor to get all that crap within 6 months, that is probly almost 3k worth of work there! Too bad i still gotta do suspension :( , after that i will start adding these things to my shopping list though. Its a vicious cycle :D :P And Pete, if you are making 93kw atw, why are you not out on that strip mate? I think that is the highest 1zz dyno in NSW yet! Also, i think sub 15.0 runs are possible in a 1zz Rolla while N/A, alas, very difficult without a stroker kit i would say.
  19. Hmmm, so it doesnt look to be LSD...good man Bill, who needs to waste time with that sissy traction control crap when there is more power to be made? :P Well, 3 gauges...the engine is out and we have a NO2 bottle (may or may not be a joke, hard to tell at this point). IF he is staying N/A, i really don't see what use those gauges would be UNLESS he is running NOS, as the PFC displays all the info you need really. So I am now going to say, 2.0 stroker kit (hence the reason for pulling the full engine out and not just dissembling the head) with some bullet proof internals so he can run fully sik 100hp NOS shots and not snap a rod/blow a piston/crack a block :P 100hp NOS + Lift = teh $h1t (i expect no less than 100hp shots Bill) On the other hand, he could be bsing with the NO2 bottle and is just going for a fully sik 25psi turbo job ( again, i expect NO LESS than 25 pound if that is the case Bill)
  20. Its not a 100kg difference, it is 37kg kerb weight. Ascent is 1040kg, Levin is 1077kg (that is facelift mind you, don't know about preface lift, i think they were maybe 20kg heavier from membery...). Also, for interest sake...the Ascent SEDAN is actually 1020kg (20kg lighter than hatch?)...
  21. hmmm...*strokes chin*...if I don't go up to Brisbane, i will come to this drag day...either way, I need to taste a proper drag strip, should be good fun :)
  22. Goes to show how good the ol' VVTLi is eh? Selective lift function? pft...1zz ftw :P
  23. I hope that isn't a challenge you have just thrown out there Bill?
  24. Well, i don't think you need to pull the motor out for a turbo or s/c, so i doubt that would be it...I would be putting my money either on drivetrain work (LSD) or engine internals, but i don't know why you would need to pull the engine out for that though unless you are working the block? So yep, i am with LSD... :D Hows my guess Bill?
  25. How does engine mount affect axle tramp problem? Loose engine mounts means the engine moves around more, and if your engine is heavy in a lightish car (eg stivo) it can unbalance the solidity in the front end of the car by putting obscure strain on the shocks. Because the 1zz is a substantially lighter engine and transmission (some 150kg?) i don't think this is so much of a source of axel tramp - better rubber and shocks should see it eliminated entirely.
