  1. ok so ive put the whole sound system together, one thing i cant fix is the radio. I have channels but they are very static. I noticed theres an orange wire for antenna amplifier but i had no where to put it on my new head unit. Im assuming without this the signal strength will be very weak. Is there any other wire i can connect this to so the signal is boosted? Or do i have to basically get a new antenna now? Yes as the antenna is incorporated into the rear window, an antenna amplifier is used to strengthen it's efficiency. According to the Camry manual, this is usually fed 12v from the radio when it is playing. I'd say you need to feed it 12v to get it to work So would i connect it to the red accessory or the yellow battery wire? and is this safe? The manual says it is only fed between 10-14v when the radio is selected, so I wouldn't wire it to permanent power only the accessory wire. I can't comment on how safe it is as I've never had to do it. Ideally you would see what the orange wire outputs when connected to the factory head unit. If in doubt, wire it up through a resistor at first whilst the unit is on and see if the radio reception gets slightly better.

  3. sounds very unreliable imo. Cooler air is generally more dense than warm air, more air + fuel = power. This also makes it more responsive, and generally an engine that is working easier (ie doesn't need to work so hard to suck X amount of air) is more efficient as a result. Warmer air is less dense, so thus you'd think to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio the ecu would cut back on the fuel. This is true to an extent, but it also means the engine is not making as much power so needs to work harder to move the same vehicle mass - as a result efficiency is down. It would also drop the cars throttle response too. Yes you would probably save on fuel a little bit, but why would you buy a 200kw V6 if you deliberately wanted to choke the engine to get better economy? There is a reason we don't have air intakes running directly off our exhaust headers. The extreme of each scenario could be seen as this. Colder air is to an engine a similar effect as forced induction, hotter air the same as an intake restriction. Also I can't see how warmer air would do a better job of absorbing heat from the cylinder walls than cooler air. Heat exchange works faster if the difference in temperature between 2 objects is greater.
  4. But the other twin won't be innocent, they would be an accessory to the crime? Don't tell me an Engineer thought of something some lawyers didn't. The law isn't always about being logical :P Besides to be an accessory requires intent. But the long and short of it, it's far too broad of a screwed-up set of circumstances to be able to apply a universal answer. It would depend on the individual matter. The issue only arises when one of the twins is innocent.
  5. pop the bonnet and check the drive belt - could be frayed and what you're hearing is a bit flapping around. If so I'd refrain from driving it and get it replaced asap. A snapped drive belt can cause a lot of damage.
  6. If I recall correctly, nominating another driver is a Statutory declaration - meaning it's an offence to sign one stating something you know is incorrect. I would lodge a complaint with the toyota customer service department, then get in contact with the penalties enforcement registry using the details on the fine and declare this information to them. They'll probably want to see the receipt, but if you can obtain bank records and perhaps even registration records from your transport authority then the toyota plebs will have alot of explaining to do. Granted it will probably result in nothing but a "whoops, we confused the paperwork" response from toyota, but at least it gets you off the fine. Good luck
  7. I half expected Mr. BMW to offer us candy. On the topic of conjoined twins, pedophilia and masterbating - could you potentially have 1 twin guilty of sexually abusing and having carnal knowledge of the other? That's it, I'm asking a prosecutor mate of mine, an answer must be had! Update - He told me he had once studied with someone who proposed such a similar question about whether one twin could be punished for anything whilst the other was innocent. It even went up to a retired supreme court judge, who basically said the court system didn't have a clear answer and that they were just hoping such a case never happened. interesting read here: http://www.nickkam.com/2009/12/half-guilty/ ... btw what was this thread about again?
  8. That doesn't stop the the insurance company selling the car off to a repairer, who will do a dodgy job at repairing it to cut costs and maximise profit. Insurance companies won't care who they sold the vehicle off to. and it isn't the insurance companies fault either - how can they be responsible for a car once they've auctioned it off? An early 90s model vehicle can be written off by a dinged guard and door. An 80s model even easier than that. How do you think Mr. Enthusiast driving his restored and modified original Holden Torana feels that because Mrs. late-for-her-lawnbowls clipped his front guards whilst running a Stop sign he has to kiss goodbye to ever driving his car again on the road? Although I reserve judgement about the effectiveness of any law until I read it word for word, I see this legislation as being badly thought of (like all new laws)
  9. 20? That is definitely larger than I want to go (plus as you said, it makes the stock brakes look pathetic). My budget looks to be around $1600 for wheels with tyres. 19s out of the question?
  10. cheers guys. Been looking around trying to decide on what rims I'll be getting. I've stumbled across the below listed by Tempe Tyres, opinions? BTW if anyone could give me an idea how big they are in the picture it would help, I think I may be stretching the budget going for 19"s.
  11. If it's sitting flush, then being able to tighten it further isn't going to be making it any stronger (assuming it's not a tapered bolt where the ends don't have any usable thread)
  12. I'd like to, but my tyres are getting dangerously close to needing replacement. Come on taxtime!!! Just confirmed a few things at work today so now I'm sure I'll be coming along on Thursday night.
  13. I've noticed this as well, and both mine and other people's seem to no follow the guard lines very well at all. I had resigned myself to accepting it, at least for the time being :P On second inspection, the passenger side one is almost bang on the money, just the drivers side one its pretty woeful. +1 on that - mine were exactly the same - passenger side fits like a glove and the drivers side gave me a bit of grief, they both look ok now but I need to sikaflex the ends down as the double sided tape wasn't strong enough to hold the skinny ends down. I had the same problem, so I used a heatgun to shape it to sit properly. Despite that, I find it doesn't follow the guard properly - the shape itself is wrong.
  14. whenever I've removed speedo needles before, I found a fork makes for an excellent prise tool to pop them off. I usually put a thin piece of cloth underneath on the speedo fascia to safeguard from scratches.
  15. I can see this law being very effective to combat car rebirthing and assist in preventing car thefts. Naturally I don't believe on a blanket ban, I would prefer some form of tribunal be available for people to still opt to have their cars repaired if it can be proven said car has sentimental value, or value that cannot be clearly compared to its market value.
  16. Mesh in the new grill, and filled the lower half of the front bar as well. Hard to see in the pictures unfortunately. Next mod - Aftermarket Satnav or Wheels, depends whether I have to wait much longer for the updated Satnav
  17. Welcome to the forums. Toyota Australia do not make available any 'genuine' iPod integration kit for any Toyota, other than the simple kit that plugs in the lighter socket, plugs into the bottom of the iPod and plugs into the AUX jack (obviously audio only). So whatever you've had fitted is aftermarket. Is the connection USB or iPod? I'm about to fit a VAISTech MultimediaLinq VML to the wife's Hybrid Camry. That way she can plug in a USB stick or her iPhone to listen to tunes. And it shows everything on the display as required. The "Folder List" virtual button does grey out when the vehicle is in motion (when playing MP3 CDs), so I don't know yet whether the VML box will stop that from happening. The VML box also kills off the "I Agree" on the satnav screen when first starting too. I wanted those features on my factory satnav, but the dealer told me they didn't stock it because it wasn't fully compatible with our Australian units so I had to go for the basic Ipod only adaptor. Although it's too late (factory satnav sold), I'd be very interested in seeing how this usb/ipod etc adaptor works out.
  18. By the sounds of it, your "toyota genuine" kit is very similar to the Soniq ipod adapter I got for my Aurion factory Satnav. I also could only get it to display track information same as you. I think it's the best you can get with the factory GPS. I opted to get rid of the factory GPS, and am currently waiting on an aftermarket replacement GPS from a seller here in Brisbane - however since you have a Hybrid I'm assuming it has that cool power-flow display feature which you would lose if you went aftermarket. tough decision I'm afraid.
  19. Will do first thing in the morning once it's light again. Try to imagine something similar to a speaker grill.
  20. Got the new grill semi installed - still some aspects of the finish that aren't perfect, but it's a lot better than how it came. The mesh is to come later, I'm not using the stuff that came with it but some other punched metal I've had lying around for awhile now. BTW the amount of work this grill needed took me by surprise. It needed heaps more fibreglass and epoxy reinforcement as it kept cracking when flexed. The mounting tabs had to be reshaped just to slide into the factory clips. The top side tabs for the mounting screws were completely off mark and I actually needed to completely recreate these from scratch. Even the Toyota badge needed a part cut from the original grill in order to have something to stick to.
  21. I've noticed this as well, and both mine and other people's seem to no follow the guard lines very well at all. I had resigned myself to accepting it, at least for the time being :P
  22. sounds like a plan mate, can't wait to see how it all comes together.
