  1. That link didn't work for me. And I am starting to suspect that my car doesn;t rev as high as it once did. Book says 8200 cutout, I think it cuts in about 8000 now. Also, I thought the argument about landing in lift (esp 1st to 2nd) was settled by the fact that earlier Stivo's (and Celicas) revved to 8400rpm, later ones were revised with a 8200rpm limit?
  2. How funny is it our engines are shipped to SA to be mated to the body, then shipped to Aus, and the whole shebang is still cheaper than an Astra Turb!
  3. Mine are all the same, all leather...
  4. I too am on the sceptical side but will be the first to congratulate you if proven wrong. A supercharged car with a CR of 12:1 would make you unique in a road driven car. Only dedicated drag cars venture above 10:1, so either you are driving around with shatloads of ping or someone's telling porky pies....
  5. Never fear! More runs are on the cards - maybe I'll head out now....
  6. How much did they decompress your engine? Do you know what CR you are running now?
  7. What I meant was, superchargers produce airflow increases linearly (unlike turbos), so why choose to cut boost when lift comes in? Also, what boost pressure are you running?
  8. nice negative boost gauge!
  9. Oh, you beat me to it. I was going to ask why it cut out >6000rpm....
  10. I was looking at the Unichip/APS website and the graph they have for a Celica has about 103kw at the wheels stock, and about 116kw after chipping. There's no indication if other mods were done to that car, but there's no reason to expect that the same motor would behave differently in the Stivo, right? Edit -- An interesting thing is that graphs for the VTEC cars (1.6 Civic and 1.8 Integra) had no discernible bump in power or torque at lift, the way ours do.. They BOTH also had only about 90kw at the wheels stock.
  11. I just meant IF I'd blown my engine like him, which I haven't, yet.....
  12. I took my car in at 3000km to fix a few niggles: (1) Rattle in the dash/centre console between 4000-5000rpm (2) Brake squeal in reverse (3) Some kind of rhythmic scraping at the right front (wheel bearing or brakes?), but this only happens when I'm turning a corner and the car is cold They fixed (1) as I had positively identified this prob as the gear selection cable, and they adjusted the "clips and brackets". To address (2) they removed and inspected the brake pads, and applied anti-squeal. I didn't know there was such a product. (3) they couldn't replicate and suggest I monitor it, and leave the car overnight so they can check it first thing if it gets worse. Overall, I've been very happy with the service (Northpoint Toyota, SA). Don't know if they'd give me a new engine if I blew mine like Exec6Speed though.....
  13. Too many hard launches?
  14. I love my car, but there's no way it could compete against a proper 4wd launch. The cars you've "raced" (and lost?) against must be shagged, have retard drivers, or both.
  15. Supercharger would be nice, but these engines wouldn't deal with much boost with a CR of 12:1 - you'd need to seriously decompress them first...
  16. So let me get this right - are you saying you did a 5K burnout, and kept it going into lift? Or did you drop the clutch at 5K, get grip and keep accelerating into lift, in the space of a few metres? If the former, that would have been some tyre-smoker....
  17. How about the ABS sensors at all four corners? And the Throttle Position Sensor? With just those two and speed/rpm you could get a good feel for how much thrashing is going on. Edit -- Just thinking about the stuttering before it died, was the oil pressure light coming on? If oil pressure was low it would explain hestitation in lift as the vvtl-i is operated hydraulically using the engine oil. It may well have been "un-lifting" above 6000rpm....
  18. Why not use the adjusting wheel on the driver's RHSto raise/lower the back of the seat?
  19. Definitely need to practice, but sub 7's put's you into 4wd turbo territory. Excuse me for being sceptical, but it sounds too good to be true.

    Tyres

The best bang for buck tyres I ever had were Dunlop Formula W Spec R's. I don't think they make them anymore, but next time I need tyres then I'll be getting Dunnies.
  21. I have borrowed a G-Tech from a mate for a few weeks and here are the results of my first few 0-100 runs: (1) 1st run I bogged down in 1st (too few revs) and also crunched the 1-2 shift but still did a 9.0 flat (2) 2nd run, I launched with too many revs and spun both front wheels, but managed a 8.6 My feeling is that 8.4 or a bit quicker is probably quite accurate. BTW, my car is new - 3200kms old. With some practice and some nice flat, straight roads I think the best I can expect is low 8 second runs. The G-Tech also measures stopping distance from 100km/h, and the best I've managed so far is 42 metres with no-ABS, and 56 metres with full-on ABS stopping. That's a big difference and an incentive not to use the ABS if you want to stop quickly (in a straight line). Finally, running around with the G-Tech constantly measuring G forces, it is clear that the highest acceleration occurs at launch, reaching a max of 0.42-0.44 G at around 20 km/h in 1st gear. Acceleration tails off to about 0.3 G at 6000rpm, and only reaches about 0.35-0.36 G in lift. Conversely, during breaking (without ABS) I can exceed -1.0 G. I haven't yet reached my best 0-100 time and I will also post some 1/4 mile times when I find a nice, smooth, flat, straight and deserted road around Adelaide to do my runs. It would be nice not to have cops around too.
  22. Turbos and superchargers create positive manifold pressure, bit no normally aspirated engine generates positive pressure. They rely on a negative gradient (i.e. vacuum) to move air from the filter to the engine. In other words, for anyone considering using a boost gauge on an NA motor - it will NEVER register positive boost, not even under lift.
  23. '04 Silver Sportivo, Adelaide SA Seen heaps of silver, red and black Stivo's here, no one on the forum from SA by the looks though....

  25. Can I ask where you ordered the TRD parts from?
