  1. That must have been a relief to have the job not a huge one. Happy for you that the pump was an easy fix too. The Laser sounds like a whole lo of fun.
  2. Sorry to suggest an enemy site but this calculator is really handy for comparing sizes/profiles etc. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Oops I didn't see the previovs line I feel like a bit of a dork now Hey I might be slow but at least I'm rough
  3. OMG that would be heartbreaking. Also wallet breaking. I have no further suggestions but please keep us up to date on what is going on this time. Cheers and good luck
  4. Keeping in mind that the turbo is driven by the exhaust gasses from the motor, this would likely cause the loss of pressure shown on the guage. If the problem is a lack of fuel then I would be very careful driving with any gusto as the motor will lean out causing damage to the valves and pistons just like an oxy torch. The fuel pump may be the problem and can be a major job to replace but I would definately have the pump pressure tested. Hope it is not too expensive for you to fix Regards
  5. Sorry I can't help on the FJ40 hire thingy but I would like to welcome you to the club. I think they would be a bit on the rare side these days. That is a long wait to get married. I met my better half May 8 1983 asked her 5 weels later and finished the transaction March 10 1984 (Still together now) When you know it's right, I reckon just do it Hope all goes well for the FJ plans tho Mark
  6. There was much rejoicing to be seen at our place last week. This gives me some more focus to get something done on the beloved Celica. I ordered these online which seemed at the time to be the cheapest option. But once The Australian Customs Service discovered my secret they swooped on my consignment and added around $600.00 in inspection fees import duties and other taxes. In the end I only saved about $350.00 for all the hassle I went through but now that they are here I really am looking forward to getting the old beast going again. Attached is a pic of what all the excitement is about. Sorry Guys and Gals these will definately NOT be for sale. The light at the end of the tunnel just might not be that other train coming WOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO
  7. Good morning & welcome to The Club I love GOOGLE. I found quite a lot of info by yping 'fuel economy 1fz-fe'. Seems that you are not the only one with issues of fuel consumption. Some of the info seems to point to poor breathing and exhaust as a problem. There also was some info regarding ignition timing being too far retarded. There is a lot of info but much of that is unsolicited and may need to be taken with a grain of salt. ie. (buy a diesel) Obviously not the preferred option for you. Hope this helps Sorry I cant be of much assistance. 01VEY
  8. Hello and welcome Awesome wheels mate. Is that legal in Thailand. Here in OZ the tires are meant to be wholly inside the panel work. We can get away with a bit outside though. Depends on the mood the cop is in when you get stopped Still looks amazing
  9. I tried a google search but this was the only site that made any sense to me http://www.fcai.com.au/environment/can-my-vehicle-operate-on-ethanol-blend-petrol- Hope this is useful to you. Regards 01VEY
  10. Way back in the 80's I was a delivery driver for a major 4x4 accessory manufacturer. The Bullbars were made in Australia and delivered by yours truly to the Toyota depot in Acacia Ridge. There were a few minor differences in the manufacturing ie. Tube size and placement of the uprights and spotlight mounts. I can assure you all that these parts altough they were repackaged in a spiffy Toyota box were not Genuine Toyota Japan issue. They were real 100% Aussie made by Aussie know-how using Comalco Aust Aluminium. I doubt that things would have changed that much these days. Buy Australian made if possible and keep the cash and jobs here
  11. Hello and welcome to the club. I am sure there will be someone here who can offer you some good advice. Trust all goes well with the Rolla
  12. Welding with an old stick welder is a real challenge. I have one and have tried to weld plain exhaust tube on the Celica and blew through a dozen or more times even though I used to fit exhausts for a living. You would need to use a mig or tig to do this successfully. $200.00 seems to be a ripoff to me unless you had an 8 inch pipe to fit. LOL Have you thought about maybe getting a decent stainless clamp to hold it on? You would need to slit the end peice to make it tighten onto the original which I did on my old Fairlane. It was on there for about 5 years and didn't come off. When you fit it just make sure the nuts are facing to the side and if possible slightly up so they can't be seen from behind. All this may be useless if you have an oval shaped exhaust tip though. Hood luck
  13. There are some who may be inclined to accuse you of theft. lol Wish I could be around to tke advantage of a deal like that.
  14. Hey EVO I have to agree with CHA54. Of all the stories I have heard about button clutches nobody I know has been happy with the drivability on the road. Great for the drags but that is about all. If you want some really good advice call Nick's Performance Clutches in Archerfield. He knows everything that is worth knowing about clutches and related stuff. He actually manufactures flywheels and multiplate clutch kits for all sorts of cars but I do like the 2ZZ HD suggestion though. I would think that to be an easier option all round. Hope all goes well for the swap Regards
  15. Hey Phil There may be a problem using R12 in a new compressor. The oil in the compressor may not be compatible with the original oil in your system. This could cause the oil to turn into a sticky gel and very quickly destroy your compressor. After the compressor implodes there will be a rather major mess to clear out from the whole system. ie metal filings and the gooey blend of PAG oil and ESTER oil. Please spend the small amount extra and get it converted. BTW the R12 gas has been ILLEGAL for many years due to it's ability to displace ozone in the upper atmospere.(approx 7 times the volume at normal atmospheric pressure. There's always a good reason that stuff like this is outlawed. Regards Mark
  16. You can generally tell if it is R12 or R134 by the Re-gas valves. The original R12 valves are similar to a normal car tire valve only a bit bigger. The R134 charge ports are a larger snap-on fitting with a plastic cap which screws into the internal thread in the valve housing. The following link shows the R134A adaptor http://www.specialtauto.com/delorean-parts/images/AC-adapter-R12-R134aA-strai.jpg The next link shows the R12 original fitting as a 90 degree adaptor http://www.specialtauto.com/delorean-parts/images/AC-adapter-R12F-to-R12M-90-.jpg Hope this helps Regards
  17. Always thought of Bill Bailey as being a bit quirky. Here's the proof. His performance in Black Books is brilliant As for Hiro's question. Short answer....NO!!
  18. Sorry mate I have no suggestions other than to find an Auto Electrician who has a scan tool to correctly diagnose the problem. Most of them will do that without charging for the few minutes it takes to plug it in. If the alternator is the problem I can get you a genuine one for about half the price that Toyota dealers are asking. Also there are available some good aftermarket units I can get for you for about $200.00 Please PM me if you need any more info Where are you? I may be able to suggest someone local. Regards
  19. Hey Friends I don’t know if this has ever been discussed but I have often wanted to ask someone stopped at traffic lights just what their Personalized Plates really mean. My whole family are Weird Al junkies and the plates on my car were chosen by my son for the Celica when he owned it. They are based on the lyrics in the chorus of weird Al’s Pretty Fly for a Rabbi. Given that it would cost over $2k to get the correct spelling done he opted for the 01 to replace OY. We found out recently that OY VEY is a Jewish exclamation of dismay or annoyance. (This states the true concept of restoring old cars) I found this out from a Jewish guy who stopped and asked if I would sell them because he thought his mother would get a laugh from them. Come on and divulge the meanings of yours if you feel it is not too “Personal”
  20. Hey Adam I have for the first time laid eyes on this thread. The cam looks awesome. I have seen a few Gen4's with kits and they looked to be the try-hard overkill to me. Can't wait to see it with the suspension kit and some wheels. If you have not yet got wheels and are are interested there is a US site where I ordered my wheels (Konig Rewinds) from that has a huge range of wheels and allows you to have a look at your car with the wheels on. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/ Click on the Interactive Wheel System icon and your car is listed albeit without the kit. Have fun
  21. Hey guys I was looking through some of the posts above on the Ford BF series. I too have had come pretty major issues with fuel economy. Highway 24 litres/100km and City up to 32 per 100. I had found the brake pedal sometimes felt a little spongy for my liking but then at other times it came to be really rock hard. The brake rotors were warped and the car shuddered to a stop which felt very uncomfortable. I noticed one day when I was stopped at the set of lights on Kessels Road heading east at Mains Road even with the slight downhill run the car would not creep forward with it in drive. It seems that the local Ford dealer workshop foreman had never heard of the problem which did not inspire any confidence. I was told by a brake specialist that the ABS module was faulty and would need to be replaced. (very expensive) Luckily I got a second opinion. In the end it cost me near on a grand with a couple different mechanics and brake shops before I took it to Brakes Plus in Springwood on Kingston road. The guy told me as soon as I walked in that there is a problem with the pedal to booster adjustment as well as the booster to master cylinder. It cost me under $400 and all was fixed. In the previous 12 months I had replaced the brakes (rotors and pads) twice before seeing the guys at Brakes Plus. This has most certainly cured my fuel economy issues although I have not done a comprehensive economy run I have noticed that I am using just over half the fuel each week. I was beginning to become more than a little disillusioned with the late model Falcons but I have been told since that there are a number of other makes of cars out there with the same brand of braked fitted which are having similar problems. Hope this may be of some use to Trent and Adamsy if they still has their cars Gotta love the oldies. No computers. No ABS. Just fly by the seat of your pants stuff
  22. You may ask to be put in contact with the previous owner. There may be a specific unresolved problem wih a car that sits for a long time in a car yard. I spoke to work associate who buys a new car every 18 months so he never has to spend anything repairing it. (I wish I had that sort of money to spare) Just check in the log book for the previous owner details but make sure the chassis number matches the books.
  23. I have returned yet again. Yes I believe that an old chunk of steel is far more fun than some of the later computer controlled cars on sale lately. My son has an Aussie icon utility truck which we restored back a few years ago. Although I am a Ford supporter by birth I assisted in the work of repairing this 1971 General Motors Holden beauty. It is powered by a 186 cid (approx 3 ltr) locally made engine with a 5 speed Toyota gearbox adapted to the motor. Have a look below.
  24. Hey Vugar I have been busy in the last few days. I have a 1977 RA28 Celica. It is desperately in need of restoration but I still love it. Due to an accident a few months ago is is off the road but I will ave it going in a few months. I cant wait I will attach picture of it below. It has been very badly mistreated but will be back on the road soon Are there many older Celicas over there
